Blackadda
25th June 2006, 17:34
:scooter:Are you having a mid life crisis? Just back in the saddle or starting your bike career at 35+. Love going fast in a straight line and then pushing your ride around the corners? :shit: Then this one's for you!

Masters event, over 35's (hair to be greying or dyed) :sherlock: cruise crawl from Autobarn, Papakura to Cambridge and back via Gordonton.

Leave Autobarn Sat 8th July, 1030am ish, cruise SH1 to Taupiri, turn off to Gordonton and cruise through the back roads to Cambridge for lunch and then return (same way or open to offers). Stops on the way for coffee, nana tea's & nap's etc.:zzzz:

No prizes :second: for first one there, juts a nice cruisy ride!

If weather crap, then postpone till Sunday 9th or if still crappy, then TBC.

Refer Calender for any updates.

nash is good cause you can park on the footpath, and sit outside watching the bikes, and the world go by. and it's a pub. onyx has nice meals, and coffee, plenty of footpath parking. good place for yummy mummies. lily pad is out of town 5 mins. nice cafe but gravel carpark.

new bar in town called the GPO - funnily enough it's in the old post office building. has outside tables, footpath parking, and if i can move on from an early kick-out for wearing shorts after 5pm in the summer time (yes, they were a little anal but softened once a letter to the paper war started) it's actually quite nice. i'd go there before onyx.

What a damn good idea. Im in! Although I may need some help pushing the bike around some corners

Blackadda
28th June 2006, 17:17
Thought may stop in Tirau, rather than Cambridge, for lunch, then come back via 27, turn off towards morrinsville and go that way back to SH1, then head back north.

Idea is to get back into jafaville before sun strike sets in and the country bumpkins get let out!:blip:

For those who don't know, the Autobarn is off the Southern Motorway, just past the Papkura off ramp heading south. You will see a turn off under an over bridge, look for big BP servo.

Well grey yes, died, not right now, 35 no, never.

Pre 72, well if you take those tooth picks out from under my nails I might admit it.

But I think the winning line is "Mid life crisis", gave up a bike for a chick 11 years ago, now i have given up the chick for the bike, and got a chick that is bike friendly instead. Wow, this is what life is really like!

Count me in!:doobey:

Is that a respectable establishment? Or one where they wuld let me and Petal in?

Are you having a mid life crisis? Just back in the saddle or starting your bike career at 35+. Love going fast in a straight line and then pushing your ride around the corners?

Oh that sounds just right for Petal. Though in her case it's "pull" round the corners, to haul the rear half of the bike back into contact with the front half, On account of the elastic has perished in the frame main hinge. So the front half goes this-away, and the rear half goes that-a-way, then the elastic catches up and pulls the rear half back again, "boinggggg", and it overtakes the front half.

Only problem with sprung frames the elastic perishes. Chicks have a similar problem with the elastic in knickers. Result's the same in both cases, pubic embarassment, give or take an ell. (thaz godda b da best pun, ever!)

Quote from the metservice site for Saturday:

North Island, showers in the east easing. Few showers in the northwest but mostly fine elsewhere. South Island, showers in the south and east, with snow on the ranges in south. Late showery southwest change in the east.

I'm keen in all but absolute pissing down rain, especially considering this will be my first ride with others, what about everyone else?

Odd shower......:whocares:

Weather forecasters never get it right anyway! Probably snow in Auckland and sunshine in Gore, but hey, we'll make a call Saturday morning.

It works pretty simple, meet up, natter like old ladies, ride, stop, natter, ride, stop, natter and so on till we get somewhere or nowhere and back.
Enjoy!

Hi, a very red faced update.......

I'm fine, the bike is fine (a few little scratches but nothing major).

What happened? Well, basically I cocked up. I didn't think the whole semi thing through very well, and when i got past it, i was going too fast.:shit:

I had the choice of:

a. breaking hard to make the corner....get run over by a truck
b. breaking hard and not being on 2 wheel.....get run over by a truck and whatever was coming the other way.
c. go straight through the corner (hopefully dodging whatever was coming, which thankfully was nothing) and try and stay upright at the end.

I went with C, but got the last little bit wrong.

Anyway, I am thinking long and hard about it, it was a really stupid thing to do, and I was riding out of my abilities.

Sorry for being a prat and binning out on what was a really good day, appart from the obvious, I really enjoyed it. And to those that stoped to help me, a huge thanks. Can you either reply to this, or PM me so I know who you were?

Thanks again, and sorry.

MikeL
8th July 2006, 18:06
You are a lucky bastard! Last time I put a bike into a ditch it was a write-off. I was amazed when we pulled yours out to see nothing broken and hardly a scratch. If the only dent was to your pride you got off very lightly. Buy yourself a Lotto ticket!

had a good ride home over buckland rd (LOTR country) and only 1 x 5-0 on the highway from karapiro - had someone stopped though and boy did the aucklander looked pissed with me as i rode past at 130k with radar beeping!!!

Ozzie

yep, lucky in many respects, might just run down and get a ticket now.

I washed all the mud of, and gave it a kiss and said sorry when i got home, and I myself can't believe how i got out of it without being dead, broken, or my bike broken.

Might need some corning practise me thinks, and without trucks behind me.

Thanks again.

Saw two of the plod, one approached from the rear, lights ablazing oh crap :gob: he can see that far, but then he went passed as all an pulled into the Cafe, he mustv'e been thirsty after a hard day collecting on behalf of the Gov. coffers.

Be good to try out some more of those really twisty bits that Marty was enlightening us about. Have to organise that some time soon, but only for those who ain't scared of going around the corners at the same speed they like to fly down the straights at. They know who they are - farkin foreigners!

Someone else will have to answer that, I think it was in the hills on the Tauranga road??????not sure which sh that is.

I should have studied hard in geography, although, given I am an OZ, that wouldn't have helped much here.

Go the Wallabies!!!!:first:

Lets hope there's no semi's when we go back down - A Oz!! There ain't nothing wrong with your corner speed - just maybe a few cobwebs in the old nut on where shall I pass this great big truck. Just be glad you can still learn from this, I know a few that can't.

Thinking about a quick cruise out west in the morning for a couple or three hours - not sure yet. Anyone else thinking the same?

Ps. Wasn't actually refering to you with the corner thing, just the clown who warps it down the straight and then anchors it before a corner that doesn't require that kind of braking. Its almost as bad as zigzaging in front of people who should really be riding staggered.

i'm up for another trip down there - down to coffee & paninis at the rock climbing cafe at wharepapa, then a quick trip via putaruru sh1/sh29 and back down buckland rd. could start from my place, or meet in cambridge first.

T. Oz - Sorry to hear about your off. Like Connor - If I'd known you binned it, I would have stopped for sure. Thank god you're OK.

Patch - I see you could resist a wheelie or two @ at the Servo before Matamata. All good and lovely to watch. Nice to know a few 35+'s can still hang it out. Would've have been keen for a ride tomorrow but I have got some housework to do after being an absent dad/husband.....bla bla bla...

Thanks for the ride guys, I had fun, even managed to slow a few people down!!

Ps. Wasn't actually refering to you with the corner thing, just the clown who warps it down the straight and then anchors it before a corner that doesn't require that kind of braking. Its almost as bad as zigzaging in front of people who should really be riding staggered.

I figured that was the way the ride was advertised!! That's why I came on this one!!

Anyway I had a great day apart from coming around the corner and finding one of our group in the ditch! Good to see all was OK when we got him out and we soon got on our way again.

Hope everybody made it home safe and sound.

Who me . . silly? not me, you must have the wrong person :innocent:

Saw two of the plod, one approached from the rear, lights ablazing oh crap :gob: he can see that far, but then he went passed as all an pulled into the Cafe, he mustv'e been thirsty after a hard day collecting on behalf of the Gov. coffers.

Be good to try out some more of those really twisty bits that Marty was enlightening us about. Have to organise that some time soon, but only for those who ain't scared of going around the corners at the same speed they like to fly down the straights at. They know who they are - farkin foreigners!
Yeah we do know who we are...but then again we didnt realize we had to ride in a way that suits you and not us.You just keep bragin about wat you think you can & cant do on ya bike like ya were today & the rest of us will keep riding just the way we want to.
That aside a good day was had & hope to ride with yas again sometime.

Gave me a bit of a fright when I saw him in the mirror. Lights blazing but no siren - must be the required procedure when attending to an emergency caffeine transfusion...

Thanks for the ride, good to put some faces to web names.

Had a great ride home via Arapuni, Wharepapa South, Mangakino, Whakamara and home via Poihipi rd. Virtually no cars, good pace (for me) and only one rectum tightning moment coming down the hill to the Mangakino Dam....damn that moss on the road is slippery!...managed to ride it out and survive another day.

There really are some awsome roads down our way...you could spend a good hour or two just playing in the Waikite Valley alone as well as the above mentioned roads. Next track day take an extra day and do some exploring, you won't be disappointed...........always happy to play tour guide.

You gotta be on about me, but Iv'e learnt the hard way when it comes to unknown roads, rather get safely around the corner and live another day:scooter:
Also I tend not to push the corners too hard in winter wet patches and all :sunny:

T.O. sorry to hear about your little off-road stint perhaps a super motard would be more fitting for the job

Good to meet the rest of you guys as well, ride home was brisk to say the least, neck muscles were on fire had to stop and have a few Murphys.

Catch y'll all next time!

Fantastic day ...thanks BlackAdder for organising it.

Glad to hear you ok Oz. Damn impressive to watch you take on that truck. The truck driver stopped down the hill.

The peps that stopped for you in case you hadnt guessed it were...Mike_L, Patch, Sparky and of course the MadDuck. I was just so impressed with the weeds in your helmet....and when Patch suggested I do some weeding I nearly feel over in laugther but it wasnt the right time !

I must say I was kinda surprised to be blitzed by a bike cop on the way down to Autobahn. I am sure he was playing with me. Sirens on as I didnt see him behind me.

Re the Truck.

Impresive, I guess it is quite impresive to see how truely stupid the human mind can be at times!

Oh well, thankfully can live not to do it again.

I tracked down the driver of the truck today and spoke to him. Appologised for being a prat and acknowledged that I was a complete air head to be doing what I did when I did. He was really good about it and I think I managed to at least rescue his image of bikers.

Once again thanks to those that assisted, I think I'm going to try stop talking about it now and just chalk it up to experience.

I thought Christmas had come early when I first read about your upcoming event on 8th July - that was my 36th birthday, I just got into bikes 3 months ago (so I do still push it round corners) and I only moved to NZ a year and a half ago - living near Howick. Sounds as though some like minded people got together. Unfortunately I was in the South Island that day otherwise I would have grabbed the opportunity to make you all look good and pick up some riding hints from folk who wouldn't laugh at me for too long.

Consoled myself with a wee spin to Piha today with a 30 year old friend....he did wait for me....occasionally.

I will watch this space for future events - hope you plan something like it again.

All the best,

McJim
