I can happily report my helmet is bird proof, I was riding along at a healthy pace today. Just doing a quick trip down to Kaiaua and back. When I spy two birds, hmmm, they seem to be getting closer. Hmmm I wonder if this will hurt him or me. "BANGGGGGGGG" Hmmm, yep hurt him more than me. Hmmm, I wonder if I have bits of bird on my helmet.
So todays experiment has proven that birdstrike versus Shoei helmet is not life threatening. However do not try this at home, Im a trained professional. :gob:

I had an interesting experience today. I was riding down some country road near himitangi, I buzzed past these 4 cows on the side of the road. They freaked out and jumped their fence. Then I had to turn around and go back the other way because I had missed my turnoff. Went really slowly trying to avoid the cows on the way back.

Reminds me of the day Mangell6 took out a pigeon (Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae) with his Shoei. The Shoei fared better than the Kereru.

Sounds like you got off lightly Kawa, the few riders I know who have had that happen to them have all testified that it was like getting punched in the head, they all had to stop and get their bearings. Glad to hear the Shoei triumphed in your case!

that brings me back to the time i was driving a cage to raglan, and hit a pukeko, and it flew up in the air about 9 feet, then landed on the other side of the road..

i've always wonderd what would happen if a bird flew into my visor beak first. Im paranoid that they will go though the visor and into my eye :|

Heyyy, don't be so mean. He said he was doing a "healthy pace".

My KawaGreen Dicioniy(tm) defines that as
minimum of 20km, but not exceeding 4000rpm in 2nd gear.

Def. faster than reverse. Anyone know of average cruising speed of the NZ resident birds? :nya:

There beaks are very hard, and traving at 140ish + what ever the bird is going at.... thats alot of momentum... How strong are the visors from a sharp object?

Things would be pretty intreting round here if my cuzzies hadn't eaten all the Moa. That'd be a lot of beak to worry about. :gob: Moa than I could handle.

Two days ago a hawk was having a feed on some road kill in the other lan, before it decided to hop about for a second or two then fly directly infront of me. Hit the brakes and missed it by a metre or so. was at about chest height. fcuck hitting that.

Have copped a sparrow between my right bicep:apumpin: and chest though. Didn't really feel it but i think it tore the poor little guys wings off:bye:
