Wanna hire a cheetah?

Zoo confirms cheetahs for hire

6.00am Monday June 26, 2006

Cheetahs at Wellington Zoo are available for hire at private functions for $2500, a zoo spokeswoman has confirmed.

Amy Hughes said Charlie and Delta had been out only a handful of times, and hadn't been out for about four months.

I wonder if they do tricks...

We went to the Zoo yesterday and those cheetahs looked extremely bored in there small inclosure... If I had the choice I'd rather hire out a Chimpanzee they were going crazy in there inclosure and they're a f*cken crack up to watch! Anyone seen a chimp fight? Its almost the same as watching humans fight!

Personally I think hiring out wild animals is wrong... makes them no better than a travelling circus (but without the tricks).

But would be kewl to have them sitting in the lounge (for $2500) when the in-laws come over... dinners here!

Im definately with you there, but I still reckon that the Chimps are better than the Cheetahs if you were to rent any animal!...

they can still be dangerous... very strong animals... but I'd agree... my favourite wild animal is an elephant... that would be kewl too... or a snake of some sort...

They sure are, but they're full of character too and they remind me of my family...

Nah you have to rent out lions, they are the king.

Why hire wild animals when you can get there for free here?

I agree keeping animals in small cages is not entirely humane but the reality is that if it means conservation of a species then I'm all for it. Hiring dangerous animals out o kids parties could be a way of keeping them entertained (the animals - not the child animals!)

good fund raising idea for the zoo tho.

It's definately inhumane to subject wild animals to small childrens parties.. Poor cheetahs wouldn't stand a chance at the average 5 year olds party...

...they could probably eat your boss.. but then again, a bunch of pigs could do that within minutes <-- referring to movie: Snatch..

A disgusting way to treat wild animals. They should be free to roam where there is ample room to run and hunt other wild animals.
Porirua or Invercargill perhaps?

An orang-utan for me please (hey Hitcher, that's Pongo pygmaeus). Chimps I believe are inclined to masturbate at the drop of a hat whereas an orang-utan is just ridiculously cute all the time.

The Auckland Zoo has just got two male cheetah. These cheetah have been hand-raised in South Africa like the ones in Wellington, so they are used to human touch. Rhino and I were the first to do a Cheetah Encounter with the Auckland ones. For me it was an awesome experience!! To be up close and patting these awesome cats is a real experience and I was not scared once. To hear their purr is so cool.

By the way although I would rather see these animals in the wild, this is the only way some of them can ever be saved - cause of humans!!

I have also patted at the zoo:

Lion cubs
Tiger
Rhino
Hippo
Giraffes
Cotton top tamarins

Feed at the zoo:-
Lions
Hippos
Rhino
Giraffes
Lemurs
Cotton Top Tamarins

I can post piccies of our Cheetah Encounter if you don't believe me!!

Chimps that masturbate an excessive amount in captivity generally are those that have anxiety issues. Funny, the can be said for humans...

I went to the zoo about 2 years ago.. spent just over 90 minutes there.. the first 15 minutes were spent wandering around.... i then wandered out, not finding any of the other animals interesting..

oh yeah, the otter tried to steal my brain.. i spent over an hour staring at it, with no interest in going anywhere else..

This is a pic Rhino took the other day of an otter at Auckland Zoo. You have to be patient and wait to see animals, even in the wild!! Patience with animals is the winner.

And here are the pics of the Cheetah Encounter!!

Cheetahs just appear to be oversized tabbies - hardly what I would call "wild".

....mind you, some tabbies are viscious little bastards
