This looks like a bit of fun, New Zealands answer to The Long Way Round.

This was emailed to me:

Hi everyone, appended is a poster of the upcoming event. Things have been finalised and the 'no red carpet' premiere (only showing) is set for the early evening of 16th July at the Paramount Theatre on Courtney Place with arrival at 6.00 pm for a 6.45 screening. There will be of course wine to drink and paparazzi to eat. I am encouraging bikes to be ridden as we should be able to have a parking area along in front and we will provide security for this.

All the stars will be there...what do you mean you haven't heard of Penelope Panther! Yes, we will have both bikes there and both Dick and Steve will be there to wave to their clamouring fans and sign items of clothing, backs of bus tickets, community service cards etc.

If you have a suitable work place (and printer) please print a copy of the poster and put it up. I am encouraging general entry because the theatre seats 500 and I only have 9 friends (actually 7 of those are Steph's). The film will be advertised on the Paramount website and in their newsletter. Bookings can be done with me on des@thelasthurrah.co.nz or through the theatre (they take a $1, so book with me).

If you have a good place for a poster, I have had some glossy ones produced in A4 and A3 so if you want any, contact me. As long as the printer on Malta hasn't tipped over the ink bottle or smudged too many copies, there should be books soon winging their way over for purchase on the night.

Looking forward to seeing a few of you along and thanks for your help.

Des

What do paparazzi taste like?
They taste like shit, like any other carrion-eater. Fried vulture? No thanks.

Not even with Marinara Sauce.

Bro, if your girl is out in The Bay, can my girl catch a ride with her? Then I wont have to deal with screams and kidney punches.:nono:

Dont think so. Sure it will be sweet. Book it through the Paramount. When I got my tickets on Wednesday they were selling very well, so it might be worth booking it rather than just rocking up on the day.

Got my ticket so see you dudes there. With crap weather like this and me being choosy (or is that wimp) when I ride these days I doubt I'll be coming in by bike.

XP@ look out for me at the theatre. I presume Re-cycled will be there too.

OK that wasn't a bad night out. The theatre was packed, there was plenty to drink and a bit to eat all for the $20 ticket price. Saw a few KB'ers and e-riders there but being so packed didn't get to talk to all that many.

Paul and Vicky were there, still married, after all the hassles with the shrivelling pinstripe and paint smell in the house. Saw LB and Hamish, F5Dave and many others. Didn't see XP@ or Re-cycled after all but I'm sure you were there somewhere.

Had my camera with me as usual and ran off a few shots. You might spot yourself in them - sorry about the fuzzy shots in the theatre but didn't use the flash in there.

Des introduced the story before the movie showing and he was pretty happy about what they'd done. In the movie it wasn't all love and roses with health issues striking Dick and Des at various times on the trip as well as the Panther which had to be repaired rather drastically after one fork leg broke a couple of times.

Don't think Peter Jackson is too worried but I'm bloody glad I bought it. Gritty - real world stuff - wonderful effort.

If you live in wellie and you missed it - damn shame because it really was something special!!

My wife and I really enjoyed it, and she isn't much of a biker. I was glad that they didn't go into too much detail about the prep required etc. Just got into the nitty gritty of the story. It gave me a nice sense of the scale of their achievement and left me feeling pleased to have seen a couple of real heroes who also happen to be quite ordinary blokes when you scratch the surface. Three cheers for good mates met through motorcycling. My wife asked me if it made me want to do the same thing. Not a chance!
