Could be keen, may have the kids with me, so could be stuck riding in the family area, any riding is better than nothing at the moment, may be able to sneak of for a short blat.:scooter:

Greg Power has a ride at Maramarua this weekend. Saturday is quads so they will condition the track nicely for us guys. Sundays trailride should be a blast as the weather forecast is good for the rest of the week. Sure, there will be mud, but I expect some sections of the track will be a blast after a week of good weather and the quads riding on Saturday.

Well Gregs one is in Maramarua, so it's a bit of a drive to get there. I was planning on woodhill, but if everyone is mega keen for the Maramarua ride, maybe we should all go there???

I've been there a few times. It's very good, but in the wet it maybe a bit hard going.

Interesting call F/F. After all Maramarua is only 50km from south Auck as well. Woodhill is nearly as far.

What kind of bikes have you ridden there?

Well GTae ended up pulling out, so alex adn i headed to woodhill. There were SO MANY PEOPLE THERE!! It was pretty good though. The sand was a bit soft was it was a bit hard in the woops. Ended up heading down towards the bombing range, closed for hunting season, so did some crazy little track on the way back, went up a 20m high steep as fuck hill and it was steeper on the way down. Fucking shit myself. Anyway had a blast, trying to do donuts on the beach was awesome. I still shit my self trying to 4th gear wheel stands.

Great day all in all. My entire body hurts, but it was great.

Maramarua was a blast! Arrived at about 9.30 to find the puddles were frozen over in the car parking area, and unlike in the summer when parking is tight with several hundred riders turning up there would have been maybe 60 riders show up.
Headed out for the first lap, and other than the very first part of the course which started up a different road to the summer rides and a real steep and tree root infested climb (probably the trickiest part of the coarse if you didn't pick a good line) the trails were the same as in the summer time. At least the long expert course was.
Managed to get around the long course without coming to any grief the whole way around. The ground was hard which was surprising but wet and slick. Most of the climbs on my first and second laps had riders off to the sides with clogged wheels hopellesly spining or bikes just at a stand still with tired riders. If you used momentum and had the confidence to keep moving and the wheels turning so as not to clog with mud the ride was relatively easy.
Some people obviously do not agree as I witnessed a few returning after the first lap to pack up and leave, but many others went out for a second and more laps.
The only place I dropped it was almost at the top of the first steep rooted hill climb after negogiating my way past four quads (who I thought were supposed to be riding on Saturday:Oi: ) and had my line choice limited and did not get my front wheel over the last big root near the top of the climb. Droped it on its side and thanks to the quad rider who stopped at the top to offer to help but I didn't need it to get going again.
Just over the brow of this hill on my third lap my front wheel threw up a log and derailed my chain which bunched up between my frame and chain roller without damage. Seeing as it was mostly downhill I rolled/pushed back to the car park to fix before heading out again.
Got in four big laps and thanks to Greg Power for waiting for me as I was the last rider to leave at the end of the day after riding my fourth lap on a clear track and with some of the arrows packed away.
Greg told me he was having another ride here at the begining of next month, and if the weather is good the week leading into the weekend I'll definatly be there. It might be a bit more of a grovel if it rains alot before the ride, but with good tyres and low pressures should still be mostly rideable if you maintain momentum.:scooter:
