View Full Version : Italian Haka

There's a new ad for the Fiat Idea in Italy, it has a group of yummy Italian mummies doing a haka in front of the car.
NZ diplomats have objected that it's culturally insensitive, and the writer of the new All Black haka, one Mr Lanitelli ( a fine tangatawhenua name that one) contacted the ad agency to offer to write an appropriate haka. The agency lost interest when he asked the advertising budget and what the expected sales of the car would be.
OK, it may be an 'Imperialist' attitude on the Italians part, but they know a scam when they see one.

I am not sure how much we can complain as Lanitelli is part italian anyway, if its good enough for an italian maori to write the new AB haka then it must be ok for the italians to use the old one?
Having seen a lot of my culture lampooned around the world (Scots that is) I am not overly sensitive to the constant tangata whenua whinging; If you can't laugh at yourself your way beyond dead in my book.

Is the kamate haka copyrighted? If so it's like any other written piece of work so hands off. Except every time a sport team decides to play some one else then it's fair game (wtf?)....

If it aint copyrighted, then work away in my book. I don't mind NZ being associated with moisty italian hotties with big mammarial protuberances in skimpy clingy tight bikinis......

they tried to copywright the Haka, and they failed. Once again the country gets embarrased by PC bull shit, now they are crying about this advert, it doesn't look offensive, why can't they just be flattered rather then take everything as a fucking insult.

The ka Mate haka is attributed to Te Raparaha (spelling) and he's been dead or long time! How can it be copyrighted!!!
I am begining to be embarassed by the extent of our international PC image, we seem to complain of trivial things rather than saving our efforts (& reputation) for more important stuff - like saving whales, thats worth the effort!!
I've definately started to ramble, must be lunch time...:bye:

I just watched the thing on tv ( Cambell live i think )

The guy wants them to come and 'talk' to them, what bullshit.

The italians will either be anul raped or be blackmailed into paying the maoris millions to shut them up. :nono:

Tand the writer of the new All Black haka, one Mr Lanitelli ( a fine tangatawhenua name that one) contacted the ad agency to offer to write an appropriate haka.
The guys name is Derek Lardelli,

I met him once on a Marae on the east coast, he is a really decent and very interesting guy.

Precisely - although by the male reaction here, I'd say they are onto a winner! Doesn't do it for me though, but I did like Campbell Live's very un-PC version of it - something about it being a car for girls!

Well I find the haka culturally insensitive.

Never mind, money will fix that.

If the Italians started paying for historic grievances, they'll be compensating half the world.

This if fucken ridiculous. Its like a child being jelous that a toy that he discarded is being used by another hotter child with bigger boobs. Farking useless.

Yeah, but what has the car actually got to do with the haka?
It's black ~ like a play on 'The All Blacks?'

funny ad - stupid idea, but hey thats advertising for you - the thing that amused me was not that maori were offended by its use without their permission, but that they hadn't been paid.

Ah come on, get over it, if they feel that strongly then they should sue.
