Top marks to my gear, which kept me warm and dry all 40mins to work!
And it was raining pretty bloody hard too!
Anyone else stupid enough to be out on a bike today?

Came in from Miramar this morning. Nothing like heading into a very wet 100k southerly straight on, then going thru a roundabout, SHIT  - now it's 100 k side-on trying to push me into the shrubbery.
Most excitement I'll have all day.
2 whole bikes (not the usual 8 or 10) in the bike park, gloves and sox on the air vents at work (I have spare sox)
Still better than catching a bus.

Yes, but I dont have a choice. I left home at 6.30 this morning when it was still pitch black. I really hate the bits of the road where they have just painted over old road markings so when it rains you have to lift your visor up to see the 'real' road markings so you dont end up in the oncoming lane. Unfortunately the rain was pelting down so hard that it stung my eyes. That combined with the gusts of wind trying to blow me of the road made for a very interesting ride to work!

Yep, I rode across town to work this morning. Very happy with my gear these days. It's only my gloves that let me down.

Ahhhh the spare pair of sox! I brought a spare pair too. But also used the plastic bag inside my boots trick:blip: Works like a charm:first:
Ran into a bit of flooding on the way to the Hutt, but nothing too bad.

Do you wear your gloves on the inside or outside of your jacket??
If they are on the outside, the water runs down your arms straight down into your gloves.
I put my helmet on, then my gloves, then my jacket. Sounds funny, but works!

I used to wear them on the outside, but, as you said that was terrible, so I started wearing them on the inside, which is alot better, but some water still seeps in around my wrists.
wasnt too bad when i left, not that i have that far to travel thank god or i'd have already bought new gear. looked out over the river on the way down the hill and thought "hmmm the rivers a tad high". also long range forcasts say its gonna be raining all week, easing off a bit tommorow then back on full again.
everyone travelling from welly out to here is either taking the day off or very late.
heres the weather warning issued at 9am :)

It's not the coast you see... it's the vaugue outline of a cage barrelling toward you through the exhaust smoke left behind by the line of pimped humvees and BMW X5s as you sip your hot latte in a parnell cafe, with bits of grit and rubber for cinnamon flakes. ;)
Off topic: I asked Mrs It to pass the cinnamon for my coffee last night and she passed me the cardamom! Only been married 4 months and she's already trying to kill me!!

I have to admit your right about that, having to explain that matches are for lighting candles and, no the internet is not working, was educational for the whole family. The best story i heard was one of the neighbours kids insisting someone go and get takeaways as the cook obviously wasn't going to deliver!
We're really, really, hard up here!
Anyway, to good a morning to waste, I'm going for a ride.:scooter:

Bugger sitting in traffic in this weather, what better day to take your bike to work! And for the 2nd time in history I managed to get a park IN the bike park, instead of the footpath beside it. Seems Uncle B ain't the only pussy today.
As for the gear? Yes, well, my waterproof boots did a fine job of holding in the water, as did my waterproof gloves. Got some funny looks wandering around in a suit and bare feet while the aircon vents dried my socks.
And the ride? Oh that was fantastic. Impromtu lean angles and wheelspins - wind, rain and rooted rear tyre... Woke me up quicker than any coke can.

Im stuck in a cage for a while now, playing paintball the other day resulted in a prompt trip to Welly Hospital, Ive managed to stuff my back and knee up, both of which are past injuries so will be a whilew before I can hop back on the bike, however days like today I dont really bother to much :)
Looks like its clearing up.....

Yeah good point (TD). Only been a couple of months since my last one...
Radio reports 1.5 hours travel time from Wellington city to petone.
Maybe it was a good idea to ride after all.
We'll still be home before most Aucklanders though.
Be careful out there!
Just received this update..........
The Horokiwi slip is apparently not going to be cleared for 24-48 hours. There is only one lane operating each way on SH2 and estimated times are 1 and a half hours to the Petone Lights and 1 hour coming back into town from the Hutt.
Apparently the Haywards hill is now blocked (because everyone is taking the detour).
There is severe surface flooding everywhere. Some roads are closed in and around Lyall Bay. The back road to J’ville is closed (Heading through the tunnel then right towards Crofton/Wadestown/Jville), the Ngaraunga gorge quite congested and Old Hutt road badly surface flooded (looking at closing it).
Enjoy.

There is indeed, on the Southern at any rate. I had to lanesplit. And then ran completely out of petrol. Ratty's reserve is smaller than I though. Fortunately the old "tip it right over on its side" trick worked.
