Universal front paddock stand.

I have spent a long time looking into making a front paddock stand. I looked at what is on the market and the different styles. Of the under the fork design they appeared to be slightly unstable and/or lacked suitable lateral adjustment as you changed/upgraded your bike. So I decided to make my own design completely. I have designed a front stand that adjusts laterally to fit the size of any bike and provides a secure lock onto front forks themselves. These stands allow the removal of front wheel, calipers, disks, pads etc. An additional feature of the design is that the attachments can double as bobbin hooks on the rear stands that I make as the supports are completely interchangeable.

So here are the specs:

Frame made of 1 inch steel pipe (very strong), with a wall thickness of 3.2mm. Wheels are solid nylon 80mm. Supports are zinc coated threaded rod welded to laser cut lifting hooks which run through tapped holes in the frame. I have inserted a solid nylon button on the face of the hook to prevent any scuffing. Hooks are dipped in plastic to protect them against corrosion, scratches etc. Frame is powder coated. Frame has 2 nylon protectors underneath to protect the stands paint from the garage floor.

Similar operating design to my rear stands. Once you have lined up the lifters you don’t need to keep readjusting them as the threads hold them in place.

As a note you must use the front stand in conjunction with a rear stand. Front stands used by themselves are potentially unstable.
I am keeping the price in line with the rear stands current reduced price of $99.
Feel free to ask questions, come round etc....

Are they Gixxer tested?? after the brill job on the rear stand I could be a starter for one.

Cheers

That is the one style the stand won't work on. Caliper mounts that are basicaly all the way to the base of the forks. All the lifting hooks need to operate is 50mm clearance from base of fork up . Which is the vast majority of bikes. Just not that one I am afraid!

Actualy bike is a bit of a mess from some crash damage too.

Yes could be possible to use front as a rear stand, but only on small capacity bikes.

Hi Jonno. I am sure they'll fit on your bike. If it doesn't send it back.

The yellow text is impossible to read though!!

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and change your settings for this website to t"The Light Univers" instead of "The Dark Universe". That should help!

Thanks mate, but he's changed the text now anyway as it was yellow and I use the 'light universe' making it almost impossible to read unless I highlighted it.

And hey, as a moderator here I'm supposed to point that stuff out!

when I push in the adjustable , rubberised holders to match up with my swing arms and then secure this position by tightening up the screw, how can the holders swivel when I lift the bike up on the stand ????

I mean should they not be able turn when one lifts the bike ??

Hi Grego.

JUst leave the nut on the end of the thread and twist the threaded rod itself to adjust in or out. The thread inside the frame will hold the threaded rod in position, and will let it rotate freely. The nut is on the threaded rod as an ergonomic thing to help turn the holders.

ANy more questions just give me a shout.

Did you buy your stand from Swanny?

swanman
22nd July 2006, 16:39
I see what you mean. You have a mark 1 stand. There are no nuts on the end, you have the locking screws that come in from the top.

The locking screw should not be overtightened and really only used to hold enough pressure on thesupports to line them up with the swingarm. Once the weight of the bike come onto the supports there is more than enough drive to rotate the supports as required.

If you are having a problem do not overtighten the locking screws so that they can rotate.

Cheers

You get what you pay for.
In my oppinion the holders, once adjusted should lock into place AND STILL BE ABLE TO FREELY ROTATE. But I assume then the stands would become more expensiv to make -----about same as other ones sold in the shops !!!

Thanks for the feedback. Grego sounds like you are not altogether happy. Sorry to hear that. This is the only negative feedback I have received to date. The MK1 stands are a good product I use one myself every day no probs at all. The next stands are as practical as the orginals just more polished.

Grego if you are really so unhappy can I ask you to PM me and not use this forum.

It is more that everybody here seems to glorify a product that I personally consider inferior to other products on the market.Yes,true, they might cost more but then they also won't bust my nuckles because the bend up section, where the hands go, is enough bend up to be able to push the lever down without cracking the nuckles on the concrete, to mention just another design mistake.
Can't honestly see why this discussion should be kept private, ""I bought it here and should be able to discuss it here."" I am not expecting anything else.................
Am I being unreasonable ??????
Unfair ?????????

grego, I and other users of the MkII stand (that I know of) have not experienced any of the problems with the stands that you are complaining about. Hence why I'll stand (excuse the pun) by my comments in support of this product.

swanman, I wouldn't worry too much about the effects of grego posting his feedback here. I do feel he is entitled to as long as it doesn't get 'dirty'.

I have a GSXR1000 K5 and i bought an Oxford front stand that works well also works on my mates R6.

At the same time I bought the front one I got a deal on a rear stand.

No need to make them when you can buy what you need.
