I ride anytime. There is no excuse
when I was first learning it was dry only because I felt the fewer complications the better.
A little more experience (Approx 180,000kms), and a setup that works well (will do downhill stoppies in the wet without threatening to washout), no excuse given none needed. Sure I ride differently but I still ride.
I find it more exciting in the wet, nothing like getting her sidways without worrying about a sudden hookup leading to a high side. Besides if you do your drills etc in the wet there will be nothing occurs in the dry you cannot handle.

I ride in the wet and love it! Even got a few knee downs on my fav roads yesterday. Not when it was pissing down but just when it was nice and wet. Although, in the past I have binned it twice in the wet and written the bikes off, so I better start to calm down before I start getting too cocky/over confident again...
Supercorsas have such good rubber eh, basically it just keeps on gripping and gripping even when the treads were this bad by the time I got home today (look at the attached pic). I highly recommend them to anybody who likes to go a little fast.
Hey Motoracer
when is the WOF due??? :gob:

Looks a lot like a burnout practice tyre to me.

Na, don't like to do burnouts cause I am too poor to waste good rubber while at a standstill (or sometimes when rolling at slow speeds). Great fun to watch though!

lol Nothing like riding in the rain, crappy stock FXR tyres, limited experince, no riding gear save some gooves and bloody freezing going at 70kph.
Tis fun, god I love bikes :niceone:

I don't like riding in the wet. But its either ride in the wet or don't go to work.
I prefer to ride in the dry, it's more enjoyable for me.
I will ride in the wet if I'm touring or away somewhere and have to get home - once I get into the groove it's fine. You just have to concentrate a little more. I'm very impressed with my Pirelli Diablos in the wet - last trip down through the Awakino Gorge/Mt Messenger it was wet for about 300kms and it wasn't too bad.

Kinda my point. Not a lot of tread left on the strips or in the middle.
About all it is good for is burnouts or a tyre swing. :shake:
Yep, will always ride in the wet. As already mentioned it's that or take a bus... I hate public trans. However if wind gusts are predicted at more than 100 I don't take the scoot.
A little dodgy on the scoot in the wet though. Dropped the scoot into Richards Motorcycles (Johnsonville) yesterday as he's starting to overheat (head gasket?) and Richard pointed out that my rear tyre is a cheapo nasty one that's not even rubber. I told him to fit the best he could find so will either be a Michellin or Continental. Should stop the rear washing out in the wet.

Funny how many people have posted saying that they do ride in the wet and their reasons for it, when the original question was how many don't ride in the wet... ;)

I usually stay home if its pissing down but if it rains when I'm out I don't mind, its too late to do anything else then. Basically that's what happened today, forecast was for showers but it looked like full blown rain to me.
sometimes i put plastic supermarket bags over my socks then put on my boots.
I try to waterproff my fabrics with spray each year & sno-seal my leathers/boots. I usually find that I'm enjoying it till the hands get soaked.
one time i tried to dry my gloves in the oven but forgot all about them. an hour later i could smell they were ready.

well i flew in the rain today. it was cold too - 10 degrees at the airport, about 5 at 3000 feet. with a 25 knot headwind, with a full flap/full power stall we could hover the 152, and even fly it backwards! air traffic control asked us if we were aware that we had a zero ground speed!

when i had the KTM Supermoto (pirelli MT60RS corsa wets) i used to find reasons go out riding when it rained. insane grip coupled with that lightweight flickable chassis made the rain fun!!
actually - the vanvan is almost as good in the wet - the big fat tyres grip really well too - and it's got such a low centre of gravity - just a lot less power....
maybe that's a good thing....
the gs1200ss is still staying off the wet roads untill i get to know it though..

I'll ride in wet for commuting cos the bus just don't work for me.
I do enjoy riding in the rain in leathers after a while. I think the leathers must act like a wetsuit so my body heat heats up the water trapped between my leathers and my skin. It's cool cos if you're doing twisties and moving around a lot on the bike (which is my riding style cos I always move way more than I need to) it becomes almost like a watersport. You're so wet, and having an awesome time.

Hey hey... IT NEVER IS WINDY IN AUCKLAND.....
Ahahaha you have got to be joking, probably worse than Wellington now

Good plan, Ken.
First thing to do before you venture out in the rain on the 1200 is change the fucking tyres. They're dangerous, plain and simple.

Its all part and parcel of riding, is it not? Ride to the conditions, same reply to the riding in the dark thread
When I srarted riding back in the 70`s brakes didnt work in the wet and manufacturers even put stickers on the fork legs to tell you exactly that.Tyres were shit as well,a wet road felt more like an icy road. These days though there`s very little excuse for not riding in the wet.If you live in a city or big town the rain actually washes all the dropped oil and other crap off of the road and that gives me more peace of mind than anything else.keep an eye out for hazrds like mud,cow crap or whatever and dab your brakes now and again and you shouldn`t have any problem. If you wear decent gear the same applies,if you dont you deserve to get wet. Here in Britain if you dont ride in the wet you dont ride very often, simple as that.

Went for a little blat yesterday, and was pushing it close to as hard as i would in the dry, this is to set me up for racing on saturday which i know will be wet :( Almost got my knee down, but quickly pulled it into the fairing when i realised that i had my wet weather gear on:doh: im thinking about attaching sliders to my wet weather gear hehehe.......

Yea eh, when are they gonna come up with that one?
Where abouts did you go BTW. I just went into Waihi way via Whangamata then did the same route 3 times over to get used to the bike a bit more.

Went up some back roads just north of the shore, just slow speed, like 70-80 kmh.... although in the wet i feel more comfortable going at speed than at 80 kmh razy: weird...... oh well im still going to get my arse kicked at taupo......

Learnt to ride bikes in Whanga-rain, so yes I ride if it is raining. The only place I hate to be when it's raining heavily is on the AK motorway and you can bearly see the rear lights of the vechicle if front of you.
When I went down to Tuaranga, I would be one of the few that would still turn up for a ride if it was showery. The VFR was my only form of transport while I was there; so rain, hail or shine; day or night (I worked shifts) I be riding.

i thought the 207 was a good rain tyre?
mind you - the bike has been sitting in it's crate for at least 2 years...
was planning changing to rennsports.
anyone else have suggestions?

After sitting for two years just about any thing.
Michelin or Pirelli get my vote but.
diablo. probably the best allround tyre ever, and cheap compared to oem tyres!

I love riding in the rain, spin the rear wheel up and don't have to worry about peeling to much tread of the tire.
I pick the Michelin tho not a fan of Pirellis
