This happened about mid-May, Been riding for about 2.5 months.
I've frequented KB on my brothers account but never made my own account to post until now. (I'm still without a bike! =( ) Anyways here’s what happened:

On the way home from work roughly lunchtime, I go up the same route I have been going daily since having my bike (hyosung GT250R) - Onslow road in Wellington.

I had a funny feeling as I approached the left corner I usually blast around so I slowed down. Sure enough, as I went around the corner I felt my bike suddenly drop, then my peg had dug in very hard.. I ended up low-siding in front of an oncoming car into a wooden fence. The car ended up stopping and he gave me his business card, but he was in a real rush to get to work or something. I was still a bit shocked at the time so I just left my bike where it was and got on the phone to my brother to come pick me up with a trailer. the amount of people who drove passed was incredible, eyes as wide as saucers (mine probably were too!) gawking at this pretty hyosung jammed into the fence, really annoyed me that they almost caused more accidents on that corner though… anyways, Eventually a guy driving one of those huge cement trucks just parked in the middle of the road, hopped out and helped me pull my bike out of the fence, that guy was awesome.

At first the damage seemed only cosmetic:
The tiny indicator was ALL over the road, the left fairing was a bit scratched and the peg + gearlever got ripped clean off. (I have pictures I'll upload soon)
As for me, I sprained: my left ankle, left knee, left wrist, both shoulders and my back.
I got a nice hole in my dragon jeans (didn’t get passed the kevlar though!), a friction-graze on my knee and my left boot is a bit scratched up. The rest of my gear is relatively untouched, I’m very impressed with it all.

I supposed it was a good accident to have, Came off relatively uninjured, INCREDIBLY lucky (should get into lotto eh?), and now I’ve gotten over the “first accident ever paranoia”, and it certainly hasn’t put me off riding. Although the bank has suffered quite considerably and the insurance sure isn’t happy (I lost a $700 premium, and $1750 excess!). A new shipment of black-hyosung’s arrives in about mid-august, All I need to do is pay Swann the excess and they’ll buy me a new one.

OUCH sums it up nicely, being a full time student and all... The total damage amounted to over $10,000, I’ve yet to see the report (the frame must have been bent). The fence only cost just under $300 to fix, and the bike brand new cost me $6,900 april of this year. Quite funny, both my parents rode bikes 'back in the day, Mum had a celebration dinner that I didn't die O_o, and dad just said He's glad im OK and that "you don't truely own your bike till you've fallen off it".. pitty I killed mine. Friends are still keen to get bikes of their own, I'm sure their parents hate me for it.

Anyways, I’m planning on joining in on the KB road trips as soon as I get my new bike :P (DAMN. I have to break the engine in once again) so I guess I'll see some of you there soon enough!

Here are the pictures, I've reduced them to roughly 100kb each - PM me if the link drops.
"Before" photo (http://ewan.orcon.net.nz/before.jpg), One day after I got my bike. I had already taken it to university and back :D

"After" photo (http://ewan.orcon.net.nz/after.jpg), enough said. All I can see is cosmetic damage, aparently the frame and the front forks are bent. Maybe the bike shop dropped it when they picked it up from my house?

Detailed shot of where the peg and gearlever (http://ewan.orcon.net.nz/peg.jpg) used to be

The fence (http://ewan.orcon.net.nz/fence.jpg) (and letterbox) that got wasted

A clear shot of the road (http://ewan.orcon.net.nz/road.jpg).

Thanks a lot for all your kind comments and welcomes :)

There's your problem right there! you are NOT SUPPOSED to break them in, just RUN them in! lol
Welcome to the madness of KB anyway, you'll fit right in.

Welcome to the site matey. Make sure you do get onto our rides when you get on two_wheels again. We have a reasonably strong 250 community around here. Wasp is a fair proactive member.

glad to hear you came away relatively un-scathed, sorry to hear about the bike though. just getting into riding myself and am not overly keen about the fact i'm gonna come off one day, however i'm not letting that put me off - far too much fun to be had!

Well, yes, if you maintain that attitude, you will. However, there is no reason at all why you should, if you do not want to.

and now I’ve gotten over the “first accident ever paranoia”, and it certainly hasn’t put me off riding. That's all that really matters.

$10,000 in damage ?

Hell the bike ain't even worth that ? Hard to see where the 10k is going.

But good job staying with the land of the living, and for getting back on!

Glad to know you will live to ride again. Please buy yourself some decent pants with hard armour. I hope your jacket has hard armour too. Otherwise throw it out and get one with hard armour.

Best of luck with everything.

-------------

Burger - a bike in parts costs more than a bike whole. That's why it may cost $10K to fix a $7K bike - the same reason stolen cars and bikes go straight to a chop shop.

Heck yes!

Vic student then? Did you used to park that bike in the top bike park? If so, I drooled over it every day.... (I had the skanky RG150). Such a tradgedy...

You got some cash RG100? How well do you think it'd go in streetstock? :P How much to do up to road-worthiness ya reckon?

It sucks to fall off, just try think of it as an education and you will be fine :-)

If you have a reasonable house contents insurance then you will be able to claim for your gear, which is now basically wrecked.

Been so busy lately! :( finally I'm now at work, free to do nothing! :D

Thinking back I guess I should have soiled myself, but as soon as the peg started digging in I didn't have enough time to panic, it was more like "OH FUCK". If you've been in a big accident you'll know what I say when it was kinda like a dream as it was happening, all that adrenalin etc I guess.
...Not to mention the drivers around wellington, I have them to blame for my near death experiences in these 2 short months (Not this accident though, surprisingly). I seem to attract morons when I'm driving or riding, my entire family believes it. e.g. my second week learning to drive a car, someone ran a red at the bottom of onslow, almost had a head-on with the silly bitch if I hadn't have stopped (this is where the 70k area goes on to 100k).

Jamezo: Yeah, I'm at vic, that was most likely me parked at the cotton carpark :P. Poor bike! Very gutted.. a nice reminder almost every day borrowing a car to park about 10mins away in the depths of kelburn JUST to avoid the parking wardens...

As for the damage, both sawyers and swann have told me the bike amounted to $9,900, and the fence was something like $289.99. If I have time today I'm going to check out my bike and ask for the full damage report.

Another thing, is that we didn't end up needing a trailer, my brother just brought along some vice-grips, put it in second gear and dad rode it all the way home so the damage can't be THAT bad...
I also noticed one of the brakes were dragging, the back caliper also completely moved when I used it and the brake pedal was very soft. That and what's in the photos pretty much sums it up.

As for my gear: My jacket is fully armoured, almost untouched, maybe a few marks here and there
My helmet: untouched
Gloves: left glove looking slightly weathered but relatively untouched
Draggin jeans: a few holes that didn't go through the kevlar, I now love them even more than I did before the accident!
My boots: Not sure, the left one had better days. the toe slider coped it quite well, and the leather is looking a little worn.

As for armoured pants: I'm going up to tauranga with my brother some time in September, I had planned on buying some then. Hopefully I will have my new bike broken in by then (fine! "run in"!), and my restricted licence, if all goes well.

I've been told that the bike will probably be auctioned off, I'm very keen to bid on it myself too... IF I have money at the time :P. Will find out what happens to it when I can.

Oh also, Jamezo: did you happen to take a comp102 paper last semester?

Sorry to hear about the can. When did this happen?

That corner is a crap one. Amazing an oncoming car could have stopped for you. They normally hoon down there and with that corner being blind they usually need a fairly good stopping distance.

But coming uphill??? You can sure get a good runup on that straight and end up overcooking the corner easily.
I know the corner very well. Fark, you sure you wasn't going too fast?

So you've been aquainted with "Middle Harbor" now then.

The owners of that house are pretty easy going. You didn't get attacked by the four legged fury slipper did you?

Yep. And 103 now. Not that I'm an IT geek or anything....just a professional interest.

Oh man :( sorry to hear about the can! What road was this? I saw another gt250r right next to my one in sawyers yesterday as I picked up my damage report, would that be your one?

Much to my relief, the damage is NOT $9,900. It amounted to roughly $6,720 (I don't have the report with me at the moment, yet again I'm at work providing the utmost quality of customer service...) No idea how I got $9,900. Maybe the insurance were trying to make me feel guilty, or my ears were bleeding. Most likely a bit of both. Anyhow, the front-end alone is like 3.5k or 4k of the total repair cost. The remainder was repairs to the stuff you see in the photos, and a little on the clamps where the frame meets the front suspension.

Dafe: Is this where you tell me you were my assessor? :O The house owner was really cool about it. She had come up wondering who had thrown that big chunk of wood on her roof, didn’t look surprised at all when she had seen it was some remains of her fence!
But yeah, she was very kind and laidback. I do remember a dog yapping behind a door, but I was too busy making sure my knee and ankle were still working :)
As for the corner, I’ve been going up and down onslow for slightly over two months, almost every day to work, uni or mates' houses, sometimes more than 2 times per day. This particular run I was very unlucky, even after going around it slowly…
My brother told me that if I didn’t have that accident, later that day when he was due to go up there he would have been off just like me.
