A small army of you guys on here have PMed me asking how shit is with me farm and the Moo's etc after the flooding down here in the rapa...so I thought I might just start a thread coz I'm too lazy to PM ya all back....lol...
Well to start with during the rain, etc on wensday and thursday last week we were relitivly okay at the that stage...flood pumps and stopbanks had minimilised most of the flooding to sweet buggar all....but from friday...the lake it self and the otakura river and many of out drains and water ways have got higher and higher as the valley in the wairarapa has drained and other farmers flood pump out there water and make new drains etc...the farm I'm on runs along the north eastern end of lake wairarapa...and is very low lying...we have a 140Ha that is floodpumped year round as its below lake level...so whats happened to us is as all the other farmers drain there land we have been getting more and more flooded to the point on saturday morning 70% of the farm was under water...and so we had a few cow rescuing missions...I had to go swimming on friday and it was so cold I lost my nuts for about 3 hours...in the end we had to get a helecopter to come in a spot for cows and a boat to go round them up...and that was a arse of a mission...but all the Moo's are good...a number of them had to do some swimming but they are good swimmers!! the good news is...the otakura peaked on saturday afternoon and has gone down draining away a fair bit of water from that part of the farm...but we have still got a hole in the stopbank right by the lake where it blew through draining the lake in to our flood pumped area of the farm...which we are about to go sandbag...yippie!!
so heres a few pic's off my cell phone....small but ya get the idea.
the one with the ute in it is my drive way!!!
Ps: thanks to richard osbourne from civil disobedience for ring to see if I was okay....Ya fucker!!!
