I've been hunting round for a little while for a replacement for the R1150R - something that would give me more weather protection, allow year round riding, - and on Friday, I GOT IT.

Travelled to Masterton to save 4 grand $ on the deal, and was superbly looked after by Mike at LAnglands Honda - highly recommended, I was treated like a king.

What a machine the ST1300 is - wow - awesome (electric) screen, magic instruments, including avge gas consumption, distance to go, 2 trip meters - and altho I was riding like a Nana in the wet, looks like the tank is good for 500 km!

Between Taupo + Tokoroa, some dickhead pulled out in front of me from a forestry road (back from checking his patch?), on a nice straight, wet, dark piece of road. A hand full of front brake lever (linked brakes, ABS) saved my butt big time, as I slowed enough to miss the back end of his car.

Anyway, the bikes a beauty, and will get plenty of year round use!

Nice bikes those, good choice. Heaps of grunt and a massive fuel range.
Im sure you will have a lot of enjoyable miles aboard it.

Nice bike and a honda too, well done. Its pretty amazing how many extras bikes come with now though compared with say even 10 years ago, I mean ABS on a bike? Good Idea.

Cool, A mate got one the same colour a few months back & he is absolutely loving it. Reckons at his pace it handles as well as his 'ol TL1000 & is about 10 times more comfy.

Cheers
Clint

Enjoy it. And I hope it stays upright for you. But I wonder if you test rode an FJR1300 first...

Hmmm. As another person who has recently ridden both, I will be interested to learn Shafty's reasons for preferring the ST.

Oh. And order that new front tyre now...

I went for the bigger weather protection Hitcher - I enjoyed the FJR tho, and reckon either bike would be a good choice. I did think the ST might slow me down and preserve my licence versus the FJR, but now am not so sure! Talk about deceptive speed!

Deceptive speed is right. Not that I would ever do such a thing, but I understand that they top out at just over 240kmh (rated) in calm conditions on an unnamed road in the Wairarapa...

Oh, red or blue?

Red - see pic earlier in thread (Cajun posted for me) Goes in for 3M Clear plastic tommorrrow, and am on the look out for a radiator guard. I'm thinking (hoping) based on the ST1100's rep, that it'll hold its value - but then again, I may never sell it!

Is it a 2006 or a 2005? :nya:

Pete, did you ever source a rad' guard? I am looking at those Aussie ones advertised in BRM. I am planning a ride up to the Gentle Annie in November and that involves metal roads and the FJR rad' is exposed and looks expensive.

Can't vouch for the top speed bit, but went for a ride with one two-up yesterday and was impressed to see him close behind me in acceleration and cornering through some nice bits of road! Not sure what his Missus on the back would have thought, though he did say they do tend to ride "at pace" most of the time... Didn't seem to have much trouble matching me, anyway. But then I do ride a bit like a Nanna...:innocent:

GO to REPCO or something like that and buy some boy racer grill mesh and if short of time zip tie it on for a cheap temp fix!
