View Full Version : I find this rude....

Went shopping around bike (push bikes) shops on Sunday with Sam's family. Her father runs a sports website (http://www.sportznorth.co.nz) and he organizes mountain bike rides for teens and the like... he's very into it, and very good at it too. Spends a lot of his spare time building tracks up north and travelling around looking for good tracks...
Anyway, we went shopping to get his some mountain bike clothes and whatever... so the rest of them are looking at the clothes and I'm walking around looking at the bikes, thinking to myself, mountain biking would be pretty kewl, I used to love hooning around on my bike as a kid, skidding and going wild in the bush tracks...
So I find the bike that I think is shit hot... and :gob: it costs more than my damn motorbike... how rude is that?

So Sam's mum reckons I should sell my bike and buy this one... :nono:

I had a play on my pushie today :D give me a hard frame anyday.
Why is it when ever I buy a cheap shitter, it lasts forever. But god forbid I spend money on a decent one, and it's in bits by the end of the week. :wait:

Fuck no, until I mashed my ankle at Wanganui, I'd done more damage to myself on a push bike!

My mountain bike cost just under half what my new motorbike cost.
My car is worth the least of my three vehicles (monetary and sentamental value).....
PS - nice plug but check the link, it didn't work for me:)

Man even if I wanted to.... I wouldn't be able to buy that... $7000 for the bike (on sale mind you), plus you then need a helmet (if your buying a bike like that you might as well get a dirt bike/off road flash type helmet), which at bike barn is another $150+, then you would want the gear too...
And I live on the Shore... so I can't exactly ride to work... and at that price we wouldn't be able to get Sam a bike too... so we wouldn't be able to ride together.... totally pointless...
They do have some cheaper options for the same brand bike... but still...

The sports north website link or the bike link? The sports north one is down at the moment (apparantly) but it should be up soon...

AUCKLANDERS.....
I love biking (pushbikes). Admitidly I'm not very fit now, and would have a very hard time breathing and dealing with burning legs... but if you have a passion for something you eventually overcome those smaller issues...
And by biking it would give Sam's dad and myself something in common and maybe he won't hate me as much (lol like that would change)

Heh, sorry.
On a more serious note, have you tried trademe?
People lose a lot of money on these things. :blip: and If you wanted to move on you'd get most your money back.

Just had a look at TradeMe... they have a very good selection... a Kona is closing soon on just $400. Hasn't got all the flash suspension, but still looks good...

Trademe's got some good deals on quality bikes. You can pick up something wicked for $1500 or less. The retail prices for some of them are ridiculous though. Just the frame on my mountain bike was $5k'ish new! That was back in 97 too...

My bike's built for the off-road action. The frame's still holding up after 9 years though so it can't be all bad. Well 2 replacement frames within the first 6 months, and numerous swingarms and rear derailleurs, but since then it's been fine!

why did you need two replacement frames? Surely they don't break that easy

Some people just ride hard...
Sometimes the people who build them forgot to have their coffee that morning...
My mountainbike and road bike are both well used and worth the equivalent of my SV - if it's got two wheels, I'll ride it...
Oh, and same as Crasherfromwayback, I've done more damage coming off a mountainbike then off the botormike - admittedly my major injuries on the mountainbike have been while downhill racing and I've been lucky on the track so far...
Now where's the smiley for 'touch wood'

I interviewed a bike shop owner a few years ago when those low-rider bikes came out (total wankmobiles... ridden by ADULTS!!!) and he was telling me about this racing bike he was getting in for someone - it cost $20,000! And I thought my racing bike (about $800 20 or so years ago) was expensive!
I suppose it's a passion, like anything else, and if you really want it and it does the job you want it to do, then it's worth it. I've had a Nikon F5 camera for about 10 years, cost me over $4000 for the body alone when I bought it and that was a fair whack of my pay for a long time. Many people said I was mad, but it led to a very profitable sideline as a motorsport photographer and due to that, I ended up learning to ride, buying a bike and then meeting my husband at a bike rally! So I consider that money well spent!
