I know that there have been a number of threads about detectors but I'm interested to know if anyone has one of these : http://www.cobra.com/pdf/RADAR/ESD8200.pdf
and what you think of them.
Are they ok/ not worth getting etc.
Got the chance of one cheap so would be interested to know!

I've got a multi-make independent test somewhere which I'll look for. Cobras in general are a notch below benchmark detectors like the Valentine 1 and Escort X50. Depends what you can get it for as some protection is better than no protection. You can get the Escort and Valentine in NZ new for around $500

I aquired a Cobra unit a while ago. Fairly crappy quality, but if you MUST have one that talks, this'll do.

I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's half past four and I'm shifting gear

Hi Hawkeye, I have an Escort in the car (I am a Traveller and can't afford points). I chose it so it could transfer to the bike at weekends. I haven't wired it to my bike yet(New bike Friday) but great in the car - definitely paid for itself. You still need to ride with caution, but it gives you the edge. If you are keeen I willl dig out the NZ website for a good deal......

Mines situated just above my nose and a bit on front of my ears, easy to transfer to whatever I'm riding/driving and has 100% success rate so far.
Oh, and never needs batteries.

So, in all honesty, how many times have you been pulled over and 'warned'?
Or even got a knowing wave from a cop.

*Never been pulled over (except for Booze-Bus roadside breath test)
One speeding ticket in 1987 - it was those funny old 'Digitector' rubber strips across the road thing that got me - and no detector will warn you of them - even the eyes won't do it if you're going too fast. (not that I speed)
*Except by an old ex-MOT type (before I was doing this job) who just wanted to see who owned the 'new' bike in town and check I had a 'bike licence.

Thread Hijack - off topic - ranting on - replying with drivel etc etc etc.
Only blackbird and Lou have stayed on topic. This has to be a record. 3 replies to get off topic.
Can anyone shed any light on these....
a) is $120 a good deal
b) ok if you can get a bit more off
c) don't touch it with a barge pole.
