Greetings
Time for a KiwiBiker party!!
Lets get the ideas going on here and send in a final presentation.
There is $50,000 on the table to organise the best Kiwibiker party ever :drinknsin
Click here for more information (http://www.hostthecorubagoldfiftythousanddollarlaunchpart y.co.nz/)
PARTY CODE 28191
We need a name for the Party!!
CORUBA GOLD KIWIBIKER PARTY 07 (http://www.hostthecorubagoldfiftythousanddollarlaunchpart y.co.nz/partyhq/overview/planner.html?party-id=2246917)
Link direct to the Party Link
Once here you will need to register and then send a message to the host, please include in this message you first name and surname and your email address, I will then send you an official invite.
IDEA SO FAR
1. Based in Taupo
We cater for all types of bikes and riders (and their families)
We will investigate the following activities (prior to the Coruba Gold Party)
1. GO FOR GOLD - TRACK RACING
My thoughts here are to simply have circuit racing, I am not sure of the logistics for this, so we need someone to organise this event.
I have assist with the rescue marshals and paramedics (proper race conditions would apply.)
Also we could approach motorcycle companies/dealers to perhaps arrange test rides??
Also perhaps work in with the NZDRA for Drag events for entertainment between races?
2. ITS NOT MAGIC, ITS GOLD - TRAIL ADVENTURE RIDE
A trail/adventure ride, my thoughts are for 2, one for road legal bikes on an adventure/trail ride and another for off road bikes only. I also need someone to organise these somewhere close to Taupo (Kaiangaroa Forest??)
We could even organise a Truck to pick up and drop the bikes off from Taupo??
3. IN THE SEARCH FOR GOLD - ROAD RIDE
As the name states, a road tour, I am thinking of a treasure hunt style event here, and in the interests of road safety (and of course the media attention) it will not be a timed event, however if you complete the route under the minimum time allowed you are excluded from the results.
Your thoughts? I also need someone to arrange this, It must have good roads etc. It must cater for experienced and novice riders too.
So the participants can arrive prior to 9.00am say, do whatever they like then at 5.00ish, the track is closed, and the call in made, NO MORE RIDING or DRIVING, THE GOLD HAS ARRIVED....Party time
Of course all the entrances and exits are locked and patrolled by security, and only one entrance/exit will be used, NO vehicles will be allowed to exit (other than taxis and sober drivers) until 10am the following day (breath testing will be compulsory, and if the organisers or their respective officials have any reason whatsoever you have been drinking, you will not leave!)
PARTY EVENTS - IN THE CORUBA GOLD ZONE
Of course all participants for this zone must be over 18.
Stunt riders provide a demo
Freestyle riders also provide a demo
Drag racing demo (lets get some good ole Doorslammers, maybe a V8 vs Jap import Face-off)
Bikini Comp? (sorry girls, but please feel free to enter ;) )
Something for the ladies??? (sorry again I have no idea, as I am not that way inclined :) )
I also thought we could have a CORUBA GOLD MEMBER ZONE
This zone will be for winners of the events, and this entitles them to be served by THE CORUBA PARTY GIRLS, they will recieve meals, drinks, First class seating etc etc for the night.
Then it gets dark
Fireworks Display
Bands and Dance area
Then party into the small wee hours of the night
FAMILY EVENTS
Mini Motorbike rides
Sideshow things (merry go round etc)
Family only camping area
Maybe we have a complimentary crèche/kids club so mums and dads can relax, and also single parents can chill out for a while.
Maybe visits to things in Taupo on the Kids Bus?
Also a charity fundraiser with any proceeds going to them.
Of course this is not a one man band, we need lots of help so if you want something to do, then drop me a PM, below is a list of things that need taking care of :)
I need to put someone responsible in charge of each of the events, and hopefully you will have a good team of people to work with to pull it all together.
You will need to get costings, and then we put it all together, of we are over the $50k then we start culling things or we barter the prices.
We need to negotiate with suppliers to get better prices and maybe freebies.
Also we would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
Cheers

Hey, this is a good chance for a cheap shindig.
Hire out Taupo, a nearby field, have track day, a stage with a list of bands, a fireworks display (Family friendly eh?) main spot prize of a new bike and of course plenty to drink.
I think we could chew up $50K easy like that. And have a good time. More detail required to wow the Coruba people.
Colapop
12th July 2006, 12:43
Can we have parasol's (little umbrellas) in our beers? Dancing girls. Not sure about cake though - ok, as long as Poos, Dover, MDU, Buggy or any other degenerates don't try and jump out of it!

Sounds like a good idea, but the $50k question is how do we wow the Coruba people???
Cmon there must be some creative gurus on here!!

If you are serious then lets get some names of people who are prepared to help with the organising and make a start.
Having the bike done up as the 'coruba gold' bike in suitable colours etc would help.
I will give any help I can, who else is up for the challenge?

Now I have a few Kb'ers keen to assist, as I have said I dont really have the time (due to other major projects underway as well) but I am happy to assist wherever I can.
So do we all agree on Taupo as a good place it go?
What are the events we can undertake to maximise the Coruba Brand?

I am happy to talk to the track and find things out, but has anyone else on the site done it before ie. hired the track? Having not been there, I don't know the setup, but can find out numbers for different areas and get a consensus.
On stunters, a couple hang out with the local yami shop, will stop in there and ask for contacts.
Think the big thing to be carefull of is not too closely promoting the track day and the piss up....Carooba will not been keen to be seen as promoting drink driving (riding), so think we should say track open from .... to.... security to be on the track, no bikes on track after booze starts to flow....thoughts?
Zukin
18th July 2006, 10:12
I agree 100% in regards to alcohol vs liquor!!
Not a good look for them, or road users in general.
My thoughts were to start at say 9.00am
The invitees can elect to particpate in
Track Racing
Trail Riding
Road/Touring
Motorcycle Skills handling (great for novices or new riders etc)
Then once the days riding activites are over we start the show
Stunt and Freestyle events, then onto music and other entertainment, and then into some liquor.
Maybe a good option to perhaps looking at compulsory breath testing and a disclaimer as such.
We will promote the "No drink driving/riding rule very seriously"

Anal yes, but could make them look good re the responsible tact, which might work in our favour.

i agree as well good point  Last time I had any involvement with taupo the guy at the track was called grumpy if you are the one to talk to him tell him the whole story (ie is a comp for a Coruba party) cause getting off side track management down the line is not a good thing aye. Only a suggestion but should the name of the party contain the word Coruba? I think in the way marketing this bad boy 'fun for the whole family' (until the lights go out and track shuts) is the safest way to go as its far more likely to get positive general media coverage, something all corperations yearn for.
If I can give a hand id be happy to help ive got limited proposal and event management experience (mostly uni stuff) .

I think a camping party would be great even if it is the camp down the road!
Could also organise two big vans to drive one from Welly and one from Auckland so that we can load all the gear we want and not have carry it on the bikes.

Well The website has an option to create a party profile. If someone can or has done this then let us know the party number and then the rest of us can register and login the party number and show our interest in that party. Hopefully the numbers will do the talking.
Here's what you do.
1/. Give your party a name.
2/. Choose a date for your party (this can change).
3/. Describe your party. You can change the description at any time. Please make it simple but thorough.
4/. Go to your party budget and input the things you'll be having at your party. You can then put a dollar amount next to it. Our computer will keep a running total of your party at the bottom. You can change these bits at any time.
5/. Invite people.
Party Name...
Party Date - Must fall between 1 Sept 2006 and 1 January 2007

Track Hire (dates and booking etc) - When is the best time? Not sure of others commitments, or when other races etc are on, don't want to clash with anything so we get max turnout
Stunt riders and Freestyle riders entertainment. - Will put a post in the stunt area
Someone to take organise the Track Racing events - ???
Someone to organise the Trail rides - ???
Someone to organise the Road rides - Perhaps approach Marty and/or Trumpy? They know the area well.
Bands and entertainment - ???
Fireworks Display - ??? Can ask some questions
Safety on the track (I can arrange the marshals and paramedics) - ???
Security (for the entire event) - Taupo Lions Club
Family Event Organiser - Approach one of the residents groups in the area
Drag Racing Organiser - ???
General Organiser (rubbish, bars, camping etc) - Taupo Lions Club
Legal - anyone a lawyer on here that would draft together disclaimers etc? - ????
A thought, using the Lions Club and other community groups for some of the logistics could be good. They are usually well rehersed in what is required, and usually well connected. We have the added advantage that they usually only charge a donation, could negotiate with them, and we can say to Coruba that we are giving back to the community.....Thoughts?
Ozzie

Another consideration, we need to be sure where ever we are camping caters for bike parking. Don't want people to have to try and keep their bike off the ground in a soft padock on only a side stand.

Also... If you decide to use some of the money on a bike (for a prize), which bike would you be looking at? And what would the competition be to enter for the bike?
Also if you decide on the bike model, you may wanna post it now just so some of the KB'ers who are good with Photoshop or whatever, can play around with a Coruba design for it, just incase you wanna do that option.

Sweet, so who's doing that?
Also has anyone asked SpankMe if "KiwiBiker" can be used in the party name at all... he may not want to be affiliated it...
Also has anyone asked Big Dave if he is keen to be the party photographer?
And for those who are going to play around with the design of the bike... it has to be GOLD.
Edit: On the "Tips" page they have a few good ideas...
If you end up organising a field, could look at making a mud pit and having mud wrestling (hehe)
And just for Indy: Choose a costume that makes you look hot e.g Fighter pilot lol
They keep mentioning "promote gold".... gold body paint for organisers and staff is coming to mind... or perhaps a "gold" theme and everyone has to have something gold on...
Edit again: Or perhaps a jamacian theme... as it is rum after all

Sweet as, I've registered and entered the party code :)
Was just talking to my boss (he ran a private security company in Australia which worked for events such as concerts.)
He said we should check with the Taupo council (or the Track guys) if you need a permit to hold a public partty/event. You also may need so many security staff per amount of people (e.g 1 security staff for say every 60 people). If you are doing events such as stunting, drags etc, you may need to look into getting public liability insurance (incase the bike/car looses control and goes into the crowd). You may also need personal liability forms for everyone entering the stunts/drags/racing so the venue and organiser/sponser are not held responsible for personal injuries...
I'll try to track down the number for a guy who has a rodeo machine and see how much he charges to set up for a day (we pay once.... they ride for free all day... they had one in the Red bull)

Well I've been having a look around at what my boss said about the planning and possibly needing council permission.
Here is the link to the Taupo Council page about Planning an Event: http://www.taupodc.govt.nz/councilservices/recreation/planning+an+event+or+occasion.htm
However, with some of those, its only required when using council land (reserves e.t.c).
Some that will apply to this party are:
The following only required if using an outside caterer...
Food Stalls and Permits - Food Stall Operators
All food services at an event must be with registered operators. They could either be a registered mobile shop which enables them to be completely self-contained, or registered as a food premises (at another location) and effectively catering at an event. The only exception is when a non-profit making organisation which sets up an occasional food stall for fund raising.
To view or download the guideline for intended mobile shops and stall holders click HERE ( 25 kb PDF ). In all cases the Event organiser is responsible for ensuring that these guidelines are adhered to. If an event is on Taupo District Council open public space, it is necessary to indicate any intentions of the presence of food traders.
For significant events Council staff may require further details about who the traders are and what they intend to sell, as well as essential services like the provision of water supplies, ablutions and other facilities to be provided. In addition, the Food Safety Bylaw may require qualified personnel (in food handling) to supervise onsite food preparation.
Event Organiser’s Responsibilities
The event organiser is responsible for informing food traders on the requirements for preparing food at a Taupo Event. If there are a large number of food sellers at your event, an appointment can be made with an Environmental Health Officer who can provide advice on what standards are expected when selling food in public.
An application to operate a food stall should be used by an event organiser to ensure that food safety is addressed. To view or download click HERE ( 19 kb PDF ). Where possible you should use traders approved by Council who have a current Food Handling Hygiene Certificate. This ensures a high standard as those who do not meet criteria set down are refused licences. From time to time Environmental Health Officers attend events to ensure standards are being maintained.
And this one: (which Coruba might sort out????)
Liquor Licences
If the intention is to sell or supply alcohol to the public at an event a special licence may be required.
The licensing inspector and local police may specify that a manager’s certificate is held by the person in charge of bar facilities. This person must be on site at all times during the period specified in the special licence.
There is a licence of $63 when applying for a special liquor licence. Allow at least 20 working days when applying for a special licence.

Fire Works

Amusement Device Licences
If amusement devices are part of the event, there is an obligation to ensure the event organisation is registered with Occupational Health and Safety and licensed by Taupo District Council to operate. Examples of amusement devices are: merry-go-round, ferris wheel or other such interactive activities. For more information contact Environmental Services, Taupo District Council on 07 376 0899.

Available dates are:
Track 3 $6120 incl GST (both tracks, can be run independant of each other)
16/9 and 23/12 are the only dates available.
Track 2 $4470 incl GST
30/9, 18/11, 16/12, 23/12
Hirage includes permission to camp over night; They have an area that "should be alright" to have a band/s; The old camping area has camp power, the new one does not; the new camp area would have to be where the band goes; track must close at 5pm due to resource consent.
Cleanup and security has a cost: TBA (will see if we can use Lions)
We would have to arrange porataloos for the camping/entertainment area.

Guys --Um is this a Definite type thing or is the idea being "sold" to Caruba??
One issue wiorth concidering is the perception of a booze company being asociated with a High speed motor cycle event.
The whole drink/driving issue comes to mind

As an alternative to a Taupo day, what about having it at the Alexander Park raceway, on Dec 2, after the BRONZ toy run?
Charity, bikes, Maximum enjoyment!
