'Life shocks' tip people into Hardship

One "life shock" needn't have a big effect on our lives.

But anyone who gets to eight shocks could be getting close to tipping point, researchers have found.

"Life shocks" are events such as marriage break-up, health problems, family deaths or financial disasters.

Their effect on living standards is examined for the first time in a Ministry of Social Development report issued yesterday.

It says that while the amount of money a person makes plays a significant role in determining living standards, other factors, including life shocks, also play a part.

An interesting article so I thought I'd convert some of the questions asked at the end of the article into a poll. There is a total of 17 questions, however the poll questions are limited to a maximum of 10.

I fucked the poll up, so you'll have to pick your worst out of the 10.

Something to do for shits and giggles anyway.

Where is the "All of the above" button? Life sucks but without it there wouldn't be any....

Surely parenthood, drop in income and imprisonment should be a single choice.

And how can you have unplanned pregnancy? Oh it just happened?

Oh shit I was born in Pahiatua. I'm really in trouble.

Imprisonment in NZ is hardly a life shock.

Heated floors, Sky TV and 3 square meals. For sitting on your arse smoking weed and trading porn.

I am in the middle of going through the top one. (Separation crap). :(

Not what I would call a fun experience, but it's working out okay and hey, nowadays its almost compulsory to get divorced at least once (and some of us here have done this quite a number of times I am sure). :)

Ask those Pit Cairn Islanders....they claim to not have known that child molestation is illegal or imoral....it's their way of life so how can they possibly be imprisoned for sex offences?:weird: :bash: Fine upstanding pillars of society-not!

I'd put marriage at the top of my list, not marriage break-up. That can send anyone into poverty.

I've had six. And I was raised in the Hutt, so that must count for at least 0.7 of a wairarapa birth.

Imprisonment is my biggest fear. Not because it's the most unlikely thing that will happen to me, but because it would be the most catastrophic to my family, my lifestyle, my career. That would drive me off the edge.

Losing a house/relationship/money - pah... money and women, you can always find more. It's hard at the time, but the bridge is easily built.

What a depressing thread Swanny. Is there something you need to talk about?

Nope.

I found the article really interesting and was curious to see how people on Kiwi Biker responded to it.

I'm reading a book about the personality temperaments and another one called "Warrior Politics" at the moment.

Just a learning exercise :doobey:

A guy I work with is getting over Luekemia and some days are better than others. Life is about doing what you like doing (preferably for money) and enjoying yourself. Everything else aint worth worrying about.
