About me.........

Well I suffered a midlife crisis about 10 days ago at age 31 (if thats possible) and decided to ditch the 4 wheels for the 2 wheel variety, and to my surprise the family didn't have a problem with it

So in the space of the last 10 days I have completed my basic skills and did my written yesterday, got my learners license, purchased a full kit of gear from Motomail (shameless plug for the awesome staff they have there) and got a 2005 GN-250 off Trademe for 2.5k with only 1400km on it. I know the GN isn't a styly performer but it seemed to be the bike to get my road "legs" on.

Tomorrow morning is D-Day for Auckland traffic, I'm a bit nervous as my previous biking experience is limited to off road on my 350XL (nothing extreme) on my mates dairy farm and runoffs. Nothing much to worry about out there except the odd strainer post........and yes they do hurt :P But if I find an excuse not to then I'll never do it.

I have been told by people not to put the Looney plate on my bike as I might be an easy target for the cops when Helen's coffers are running low but its better than getting a ticket :) Hopefully people might give me some room also..........but then again Auckland drivers they might just get closer when they are dazzled by my bright yellow L plate.

So if you live out West and you see a spotless GN-250 piddling along in front of you............that'll be me :)

I too just got my learners and set of wheels and about to turn 30. Da wife wasn't too impressed at first but soon warmed up to it. When i got the bike (a shiny 250 cruiser) she got right into it.

Best of Luck with the L Plate! I got my learners, got a bike and within 3 weeks had been hit by a car - luckily it was right outside Auckland Hospital. I think cars use the L plate as a sort of target. I've only 3 months to go until I can sit my restricted licence test and I am looking forward to throwing that little yellow B###ard away - hopefully I'll be finished with the Physio by then too and can stop walking with a limp.

All the best.

Thanks for the welcome

Well it was just my luck that we had nice thick fog for my first ride but all went well. I didnt have to take any evasive action, not sure if any cars had to though :blip:

Welcome to the site mate, and yes - you have a good bike to learn on!

Ride with the l-plate for a while, some drivers do actually give you respect because you are "new to the game" (so to speak). Your plate might *cough* accidentally *cough* get broken off and left on the ground. You "find" the plate and carry it in your bag because you will "definately" fix it when you get back home......:blip:
