View Full Version : Greetings from Northern Territory
Gidday everyone!
Well, I have been here for 2 weeks now, love the heat and humidity, 34 degrees and 82% humidity!
I have a new job as a production manager at a reinforcing company in Darwin AND today I took posession of my new "baby"....
2002 model BMW R1150RT, immaculate and a pleasure to ride... I will be commuting to work from Batchelor, about 98km South of Darwin, so a 200km round trip. About half of the journey is on "open speed" parts of the Stuart Highway, on my way home from the city I cruised at 150km/h without fear of the dreaded ticket!
I am so happy, house sale in Auckland was finalised on Tuesday too.
I will be keeping in touch and posting a bit, so much to see and do!

You bastard.
Congrats on the great job and the agreeable climate change. And the dangerous lunatic speeding thing.
G'day cobber, struth you seem like a long ways away now! So fair dinkum you can ride as fast as you want on that road eh, choice mate, that'll get ya home in plenty of time for didgeridoo practice!

All the best to you and Thea!
Thanx guys...
Yeah, the "rainy season" starts in October, but not too bad because the temperature doesn't really drop all that much! I have good wet weather gear from my Auckland riding days.
Jo, bike is extremely clean, bloke I bought it from only rode weekends... Dunno when and if I will be able to keep it looking like it came out of the showroom, hehehe!
Will chat again later
Al.

Aaargh. Tis only a matter of time and you'll be all soft and pampered without our battle-hardening , fabulous winter storms to ride in. Furthermore, I'm always grateful that the state is prepared to protect me from my childish infatuation with the killer that is speeding.
But you sound happy enough over there despite all the goodness you're missing out on. I don't feel too bad for your misfortune. Chin up old boy.

Hi, spent a week in Darwin in May and was there two years previously. Humidity was a bit lower than that back in May and it was lovely. The people I visit say only come between April and October. Let us know how you go in the wet season.
This trip, for a change, I met a few who said they didn't mind the wet season and they were Kiwis.
Motu would like the attached pic of the sort of bike I saw parked on the street there. The cover is to stop the vinyl seat frying, unless it already has.
