I found this on e-bay today. Well not actually this one becaus the one I found was deleted immediately after I enquired but it's from the same guy.

So I thinks, I'm going to enquire about this and find out exactly how these pricks scam people for their money. (Come on, a new Gixxer for $3000US? How dumb are you?)

So I make the enquiry, quick as a flas, the dude emails me back with this:

I know of someone who found one of these "too good to be true" deals on e-bay. I'm not sure if he's on line but I'll withhold his name.

Paid his 5000US for a very tasty late model sports bike, but because as soon as you enquire about the bike, the seller removes it from auction so you can't complain or do shit.

Then they get you to transfer the funds, promising your new bike at your door in 3 days.

Funnily enough, you never hear from them or see "your" bike.

I fucken hate the scum! Someone on here must have a bit more brain power than myself and be able to work out a way to get him good?

I've got a friend in the States who went along with one of those Nigerian scammers, just to get himself a genuine bogus cheque. The scammer originally tried to buy my friend's bike for too much using a bogus cheque, and didn't even notice when the bike suddenly became a pickup truck. My friend was supposed to remit the difference between the cheque amount and the sale price of the bike/truck. He was going to see if he could pay the scammer via another scammer, but in the end got bored with the whole deal and dobbed the scammer (who used fraudulent FedEx documents) in to the US Postal Service, who have their own police.
It was funny for a while though, being kept up to date with all the wacky correspondence and stuff.

I follow the forums at ducatisportingclub.com, a UK duke club site, they spot and report 2 -3 of these a week on ebay UK just for ducati's.

There are a couple of ebay UK members that post outragous??? bids like 100,000 pounds on these auctions with warnings for others not too bid. It seems Ebay does nothing about it.

Trade Me seems to have been inundated with them recently

This 03 Busa for $NZ7k (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Road-bikes/Japanese/auction-12209652.htm) being the latest. Thankfully Trademe's admins seem to have the good sense to delete their ads/auctions pretty quickly. So hopefully they'll realize the NZ isn't that backward as to fall for them and move on to somewhere else.

There was a very good scam the scamers article that got /.ed a while back where a guy was selling a Powerbook and a scammer tried buying it. I'll see if I can hunt it out again.
