As some of you may know, a few weeks back my ratty gb400 suffered severe top end damage. I started fixing it and decided, stuff it, im gonna tart the old girl up. Everything has been stripped back to bare metal and had the panel, paint or pollish from there.

All i have left to do is make my new exhaust, two headers into 2 12" sausage mufflers that just poke out under the alloy peg mounts.

Anyone that saw this bike in its old black/gold trim, can tell you what a transformation has taken place here.

Any comments or ideas appreciated.

Sorry. i posted the big pics.

Thats one sweet looking GB. Where did you get the Honda wing decal? Just got my frame painted and looking at doing the tank and side panals next. Just need to find some decals to replace the current ones.

Also did you paint the engine?

MSTRS

Guilty of the TT decals but not the wing etc. Can do this in size/col of choice

This place (http://www.the-theme.com/gb500.html) has the original decals. Not sure if they'll send overseas. Jap sites don't like dealing with overseas orders.

The wing decals were over the counter at my local honda dealer (hastings honda) They must be easy enough to get, thats the third set ive got form them over the years, and thay have always been in stock. They have another set there at the moment. Were about $23 each though. MSTRS did the TT decals and can do a single coloured wing as well, see his pic.

I painted the base of the engine and the barrels with vht engine enamel and exposed the fins and rfvc with a file after leaving it 2 days to dry. I painted the side cases with a standard spray silver and really regret it! In the next 6mnths they will be sent to hpc coatings for their Hypercoat treatment. The frame is a metalic charcol and tank, guards, sidecovers are jet black followed by several clear coats

If his devine shadow wishes to know any more, just ask.

Nice bike mate. I like those, would'nt mind one for the missus or for me as a second.

froggyfrenchman
21st July 2006, 10:22
Yeah, my missis wants that one. If i could find a startermotor for it she could have it and i would be forced to buy a litre v twin sprots bike. what a shame that would be.

Are those stock shocks?

froggyfrenchman
21st July 2006, 11:26
yup, they are getting a bit tired, it will get the Hagon treatment before too long, the cash flow has slowed down too much to do it now. I painted the alloy moulding at the top of them, changes the look somewhat

yup, they are getting a bit tired, it will get the Hagon treatment before too long, the cash flow has slowed down too much to do it now. I've thrown MDI shocks on mine at around $120-140 a pair and they work quite well. Just stuffen up the front a bit to suit them.

There's was a bloke on trademe that has a lot of starter motors. He may have one suitable for the GB. Also try Buckets n Bits in Wellington. They always seem to have a GB up for auction.

That's a great looking machine.
Would it be classed as a Cafe Racer?

That's a great looking machine.
Would it be classed as a Cafe Racer?Yip sireebob. Cuppachinos all round. But the GB is more- commuter, tourer, adventure tourer and small capacity sprotbike all in one package ;).

That's crap Froggy!! You didn't clean the tyres....:nya: It just upsets the beautiful job you've done on the rest of the bike.

froggyfrenchman
22nd July 2006, 10:38

Colapop
22nd July 2006, 10:41

froggyfrenchman
22nd July 2006, 10:46
he was lying in the paddock between my house and my workshop, i ran over him and his brothers and sisters. Feel the wrath of the mighty honda.

Colapop
22nd July 2006, 11:03
