View Full Version : Manawatu: Manawatu/Palmy ride anyone??? (Sun 23/07/06)

Hmmm so I'm sitting at home thinking... damn it's a nice day out and why the hell am I here....

It looks like it's going to be another good day tomorrow and was wondering if anyone would be keen for a ride tomorrow. mind you I'm slow and ... slow. not looking for a long trip since the longest ride I've been on is the wellington newbie ride and that was a bit too long. around 200km or max 300km???

let me know if anyone's keen.

(I would prefer to follow anyone who has a good route in mind as I don't know the roads outside palmy very well and I'm not really sure how to go about organising a ride, etc, but if anyone's going out for a shortish ride tomorrow and don't mind me tagging along I would be greatful)

edit-oh I can now officially ride to the "proper speed limit" (not that it made any difference before) so it should be a good fun.

ok just a quick question for anyone who's still reading this.....

I heard that ashhurst mobile may be more expensive than other petrol stations (ie in palmy) is that true? should I fill up before I head to ashhurst? also do they have a air pump there?

Thanks

Jason

yes they do have an air pump. (but you have to pedal the exercycle to run it). No idea about gas prices. I stopped looking at the price when it got to the insanely expensive price of 90c/litre.

I'll see if Doug, the chap with the 500 Pantah is up to it. He's left a masage on our answerphone about going for a ride. I we make all good. If not hope you all have a good one if we don't make it.

Just remember this time of year there are quite a few shadowed areas of tarmac
that dont see any sun this time of year, which are still wet and slippery.
Mild breeze out and a bit of cloud at the mo which should burn off.

Oh and the gorge was cleared yesterday. Lot of work beening done on the railway side though.

Off to walk the mutt. Toodle pip........................

All in all a great ride. Bit wet and slippery in places. Saw some of cowboyz old girlfrieds, baaabrah and co, along the way. Got home suitably refreshed.

Doug headed over to Hawkes Bay in the end.

shock horror. I am surprised that you didn't mention the little spill off my bike. Even gave it a wash when I got home to see if the paintwork was scratched and its not. Did enjoy the "bonez guided animal tour" though. There were sheep and cows and ducks. The comentary wasn't much to speak of though.

It was a great ride guys, thanks a lot. Haven't been for a good ride around here much...

I still don't know where the hell we've been besides the fact that we've been to Kimbolton twice and the flying cafe..... you'd think a pilot would have a better sense of direction...

hehe, it was interesting to see cowboy's opinion of the heated grips after the very first stop. No! STOP DROLLING ON MY HEATED GRIPS!!!

let me know next time you guys are going for a ride, uhhhh preferbly a bit drier and not so much gravel???
