Howdy KBers,
Anyone out there got a front guard for a 81-83 Yamaha XV750? or any other Yamaha road bike of that era? They probably used the same guard on a number of bikes of the same age. The guard is chrome and mounts to the fork lower legs with two bolts each side. The Guard incorperates a pretty pathetic fork brace on the inside of the guard. I have one that was painted black by the previous butcher oops I mean owner. The following photos are of my earlier XV750 and another photo I borrowed off ebay.
I have one but it has also been painted and slightly different in design off a 1981 donar.Received my stainless steel bolts which were of good quality but those for the oil filter plate were missing waiting for reply from sender but otherwise happy with what I purchased .Thanks for pointing out the rack. Two things , I will probably bid and second thing being does this mean that I will have to remove existing grab bar whic I would be reluctent to do as it is polished alloy and looks good.Cheers Pat.

Hi Pat, I ended up buying an extra bolt set at the same time, it was bugger all more freight and meant that I got a lot of spare bolts. I also have bought the odd bolt from Blacks for things like the seat grab rail and the triple clamp so you might need to make up the numbers although if you buy a bolt set you would expect the oil filter bolts to be in there. Thanks re the mudguard offer, is your guard basically straight? mine is pain over bog over welds and dings so it might clean up ok. I would assume the pack rack would fit under the grab rail as the grab rail bolts recess into it but they could have made it any way they wanted. If it's cheap enough it would be worth a gamble anyway. No other KBers to bid on this OK?
I have just examined the guard on the donar , it definately is not the same as the one on my bike or your photo,s .Yet it looks like it was meant for the bike. The condition is okay but who knows what is under the paint. If my guard was damaged I definately would not be using this one as a replacement.I am not very skilled with the use of this computor but if I was I think I would set up an XV - Virago club site similiar to that of the Central District club. The Virago and XV following is quite strong but we are scattered across the country. You appear to be apt on the computor what about setting up a site on KB so we can all just tap into one avenue to help each other out and perhaps sometime in the future have a national meet.

Sounds like a plan, what's the address of the central district club?
You may have mis-understood my message. If under forums you page down you will see provision to set up a club site , there currently are three listed one being the Central Dist m/c club , another being post classic m/c club etc.It was just an idea , that those owning XV OR VIRAGO COULD TAP INTO LIKE MIDED PEOPLE FOR HELP ETC
you were also looking for a fuel tank , there is a Yamaha tank on TRADE ME that looks like an XV TANK FOR 50 CENTS , YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED

Is that the old 50 cents or the new resized one? I see it now, yep that's an XV tank alright and just what I need, thanks Pat ... Yes we should set up a site, I'll get right on to it, it would be a great way to tip off others about spare parts too.
on ebay they are selling full sets of chrome nut and bolt kits for 1981 to 1983 Xv's for $30 US . I know from time to time we get slagged off about XV,S but they must still be reasonably popular overseas or you wouldnt be able to buy all these parts kits.Cheers Pat

Yes I believe the XV's or Viragos as they like to call them, are hugely popular in the US especially. Next time you are on ebay have a look at second hand Viragos. I spotted an '83 a few days ago for $750 which is quite a lot considering the exchange rate and the state of that particular bike. In case you haven't stumbled across it the virago tech site (www.viragotech.com) is useful (although slow loading).
