Had the school ball in the weekend. me and me girl went on my kawasaki zxr400 i polished it up and got it all looking nice the girl did the side saddle thing.
anyway we had it planed tht whered start just down the road cause we werent wearing helmets ya know the hair thing inall
After bout 5 mins of waiting in the line old jonhy law comes up
"oi youre not doing tht without a helmet park it up now"
i mean wtf its just the ball (sigh) owell at least he didnt tell me off infront of everyone luckly my mate was behind me in there ride so i went with him
but dam we were so looking foward to arriving on the beast but no the good old boys in blue had to have a problem with it... i guess there right tho. but i cant help now kinda relating to what ice cube said in torque " F**K THE POLICE"
just my story...

And if you and your girl had come a cropper and ended up with brain damage, who would you blame then?
"School ball" says it all. Come back when you've grown up a little and moan about the things you get done for that AREN'T fair. Sounds like all you got was a warning, you're lucky the cop didn't give you a ticket for having no helmets. You both certainly deserved one for having no brains.

Were vehicles lined up in the road to get in ?
Southwards Car Museum in P'ram would have suited you - about 100m of private driveway to 'parade' up to the entrance.
It was a nice idea, and probably not dangerous if you kept at a brisk walking pace.......but the rules are the rules (as duly pointed out above you naughty naughty boy) - as much as the rules might suck.

Way I see it is like this  Cop had three choices:
Leave you be. If you then do something stoopid or some one gets hurt, or some nosey plick complains then he gets "performance managed"
Suggests you don't do that and leaves it a t that
Gives you a ticket. And severely embarrasses you at your school ball....

I came off at around 140 kmh, no injury at all and I raced the bike again in the next heat.
I came off at around 120 kmh, just a light bruise on my bum, and I finished the race.
I did a high side at 80 kmh after a tyre blew out, and received multiple bruises. (on the west coast)
But at 30 kmh outside a school I was taken out by a taxi and ended up in hospital.
Now what speed did you say is dangerous?
The Pastor
24th July 2006, 15:02
The chances of getting run over/into, on a closed street which i imagine is no longer than 500m while doing a walking pace are slim, the chance of injury is even slimmer. Everyone who has givin shit about the no lid are morons. I remember back when helmets were optional. No one would of said anything back then, the only thing that has changed is that now we have 'the man' telling us to wear a lid. Often I wear bare feat and no helmet when i just have to go and get gas from work or home, dangerous? no. You can't tell me that because Im not wearing gear the chances of getting into an accident have increased.
Whats dangerous is kickstarting a dirt bike in bare feet. I caught my toe on the peg and riped a nice chunk of flesh out. Didnt stop me riding it though - but im a hooligan.
But why was there police on a closed road?

The point is NOT that a particular speed is dangerous, or that at any other particular speed you will be safe. Its how you ride and what you hit, or what hits you, that matters. No helmets on it own at low speed is probably not such a big deal, and that is why the cop just gave you a bit of advice and no ticket. But having a pillion increases the risk, and if that pillion is side saddle then you are really asking for trouble.
Anf 100kmh into wall? I'd be dead helmet or no helmet, so would you. But 10kmh or 1 kmh , and lose balance on the side away from the one your pillion is facing and she will have serious head injuries without a helmet.
Its much easier to lose balance and control at low speed than it is at high speed.

Only if you suck. It saddens me no end when I see people on full-license-needing machines who don't have proper low speed control; doing pathetic duck-walks and keeping their feet down as some kind of bizarre outrigger system under 10k.
One thing the dude at my BHST at Ridesafe stressed was the importance of this. (Andrew was it? THE MAN at low speed stuff). It's been something of a forte of mine since the very beginning; I put 50 Ks on my RG doing figure-8s in the driveway before I got my license.....

I will repeat. Its much easier to lose balance and control at low speed than it is at high speed. This is a simple matter of physics, and as someone who has ridden trials (which is real low speed stuff) I can talk from experience.
There are many bikes out there that cannot be ridden at less than 10 kmh. My ex GS1200SS for example has a minimum speed at idle in 1st gear of 14 kmh. Now just do the math yourself and work out what the minimum controllable speed for a 280 kg bike/rider combination on 17 in wheels just happens to be.
Now see if you can explain why many large bikes appear to fall over for no reason at speeds less than 15 kmh.
However one point you make I will agree with. Duck walking a bike is pointless. If you lose it with a large bike at 10 kmh there is no way that having a foot down will save it.

And to think that when i am working on my bikes and want to take it for a 5 second test ride up and down the road i do not wear a helmet...oh the shame! I reckon good on ya for trying o do something different. Just wear ya gear when you normally ride.
Over and Out.
im with bret, its pretty obvious he wasnt gonna be doing anything stupid, the only thing that was gonna be showing off was showing up on the bike.
Would have been dubious about her dress getting caught up in the back wheels brake/sprockets but meh.
When i was getting my ZXR ready for the road (not rego'd or wof's, just getting the engine to go properly) i would take it up and down the street to test various things, best time was when i was told off my an old guy doing roadworks at the bottom of the street, i was in t-shirt and shorts, he says "your not alowed on that, you arent wearing a helmet" my reply was, "im not wearing shoes either, do you think i care?"

Can some one please translate, either I'm losing my grasp of the english language or the youth of today are sliding back to caveman talk:innocent:

Translation: I think he's saying you can't really say what you have for sure because you weren't there at the time to witness what he did, but that aside he is saying if you're (as in himself) being a dumbass accidents will happen. Then even when you are riding well someone else might hit you and cause an accident. Then throughout this thread the discussion has been about him being young and stupid, which he agrees with and thinks is funny (hence the lol), but luckily he believes he will learn from his mistakes (the reference to monkeys learning).
My comment: Now I am sure you were all young once and pushed the envelope. We did crazy things on pushbikes when I was young with no protective gear at all - it hadn't even come into peoples thinking to wear helmets on pushbikes. Early motorbike racing had some pretty dodgy gear too with helmets a bit like flying helmets with googles - more to keep the wind out of the riders eyes and keep them warm. Then even in the 60's the pudding basin helmet was the go before jet helmets came to cover the temples let alone full face helmets to protect the face and chin.
I rode trials for about 5 years long before helmets were brought to that form of competition. Few got hurt - I can remember seeing Denill clout his head on an overhanging tree once but he bounced off OK at the slow speed. We wore woolly hats or peaked caps.
Slowly but surely protective gear has got better and I wear more than I used to. I got my XL175 in December '73 and here's a pic early Jan '74 still running the engine in - heat of Hawkes Bay sun racing around at the river - wear much? No not at all. Any hassles? Other than sunburn - no!
I didn't own a full face helmet until I had been riding 25 years and bought the VFR and then it was more about protection from the wind than worrying about crashing.
All forms of competition has got more extreme making the risks greater so mitigation through better gear isn't a bad idea. On the road - or riding to the school ball - is that also the case?

Good one giving out retalitory red reps just because you got one. That was the first time I have read this thread and your initial comments justified it completely. The rep system's there to show you disagree with someone's opinion or attitude. Not attack someone just because they gave you one. You're old but it doesn't sound like you're particularly mature.

haha thts funny our you refer to the bike as a person although 'it' was a girl when I had it lol.. but na thats good to here that the monster still lives
when i brought the bike the idle was messy as but then i got a tuneup and then ran sweet but i always found tht the idle screw would never stay in the lock thing on the side by the engine and it would always wind it self back in through like vibration and all tht. which would make it idle lower.
so it could be that. but i dont know lol
