View Full Version : The Mongrel Mob

Who else watched that doco on the Mongrel Mob last night?
I was trying to pay as much attention as I could (which isn't a lot at the best of times), as I was also cooking dinner at the time...
From what I did see, some guy (dunno who he is) has taken in and helped a certain chapter of the Mongrel Mob, resulting in the Mongrel Mob after 9 years of help from this guy... deciding to change their image...
The best thing I heard in the whole program was "Make your kid's number 1 or hand over your patch".
I think thats awesome and its a great step forward towards changing hundreds of lives and futures.
However (yes you knew this coming).
Do they speak for ALL the chapters of the Mongrel Mob?
Because they said that when they gave their members the option of putting their kids first or loosing their patch, they lost a few members...
So in short, is this a nationwide change, or just one chapter?
And what do you think about it? :doobey:

Saw it and was impressed in a way. Maybe they are getting old and realise they can't live their lives like this forever. Maybe they really do want better lives for their children. Whatever the reasons behind it, I hope it works and they do turn their lives around. That guy and his wife deserve medals for what they do, wish there were more of them around.
It will be interesting to see next week's show about the Parnell Panther. Wonder if he really has changed?
Must confess, I'd rather live in the same street as the Mongrel Mob than those White Power guys, they scare the shit out of me! The Mob wouldn't care if I had an Asian or an Indian or a Maori friend, but the skinheads would want me dead!

As far as I understood it it is just one chapter, the 'Notorious'. Pretty interesting though

So if it is just one chapter... don't they run the risk of the other chapters wanting revenge for pussyfying (I know thats not a real word) their gang?

Maybe I'm a tad cynical, but what's with the comment from him that some of the bro's have done a few crimes since going 'straight'.
What's this all about?
Is crime an addiction now? So you can backslide and it doesn't matter.
This is just a fairly clever PR line to try and get the heat off their P labs.

The only way that any of those guys change is by giving up their patch all together. Yes people can change (and a lot of gang members do as they get older) but the reality is that the guys who are patched members will continue to commit crimes and live outside the law. They are animals. They are dogs - by their own reckoning.
As Lou said - it's a PR exercise.

I was really confronted by the program actually, on the one hand I think good on them for trying to change and on the other I was like well hang on a second, the entry requirement of the notorious bunch used to be reserved for only the 'baddest of the bad'. Now the leader of this bunch, presumably the meanest and baddest, sits there and says "oh but everyone deserves a chance". How many chances has he already had exactly?
Respect to the guy who is opening his home to them and such but at the same time, "all you need is love" just doesn't seem to cut a lot for me.
One chapter is a nice start I suppose, but is this representative of the gang? not even a little bit.
I feel conflicted between my instincts and my cynical observations of life.
Did anyone else notice the high number of the gang members who had their faces covered? I assume this was to avoid ID for crimes they hadn't been arrested for yet.
Edit: nah feck it, cynicism wins. They are all dyed-in-the-wool bastards who are spinning a line.

Didn't see it, wuldn't believe it if I did. Leopard don't change his spots.
So, now they've 'changed" what precisely are they doing to make a worthwhile positive contribution to society?
Uh-huh, thought so. Step over here, please, Jake, there's a nice brick wall here.
Next thing y'know, they'll be saying they've found Jesus and seen the light!

Shoot them all I say....
Every now and again one or other of the gangs does the 'coming clean and legal thing', why is this any different?
Where did that box of grenades go.......

I like it. Mongrel Mob for hire!
I could use them during the Tender process for private and government opportunites. It would certainly cut through all the bullshit and back-handers.
IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR YOUR LONGEVITY TO AWARD THE CONTRACT TO FINN. :kick:

I reckon is was all warm and fuzzy stuff last night - giving people that chance they never had blah blah blah... Im all for it, but time will only tell if its for real. People start things with the greatest intentions - bit its keeping at it, day after day when things get tough, when the chips are down we will see if its for real.
If it is - I will be the first to say good for you... in fact I hope they do stick with it, it will be great inspiration for others.

I didnt watch it, but I call bullshit. They cant spend years causing shit and then decide one day that they will turn around and stop all the bad things. It may be their current outlook, but give it a few years and it will change back.
Still, nothing a few 7.62s wouldnt fix

Wouldn't trust 'em as far as I could throw tbh, just a bullshit PR stunt. Nothing more, probably pushed to go on Air by Aunty Helen and her retarded bunch of followers ..oops i mean MP's ! to show to the minnions that all is wonderfull in NZ , where its actually going down hill as they refuse to punish crimes and instead pat them on the back..
Nuke the lot of 'em and start again.

Strong on rhetoric but weak on action.
They're all a bunch of criminal leeches on society, the only ones they care about are their own - and then it's not all the time..
MAYBE few of the older ones might be mellowing but there's a shitload of lazy do-nothing agro criminal young punks with red hoodies and spastic hand waving to take their place.:tugger:
A poorly veiled attempt at PR.
And a media 'space-filler' .

They fall over in a heap and lash out everytime life serves up a shitty hand. Normal folks just knuckle through and do the business...

Ever had to confront one of these guys on their own? They're f*cking pussies. But as soon as ya let them go (coz you're sickened by the sight of someone who's literally pissed themselves) They start yelling abuse (as soon as they're far enough away) then you have to deal with ten of then that come back to get revenge. 1st rule - don't "play by the rules" coz they never do - f*cking animals.

I'm new to New Zealand and still haven't got my head around the whole concept of criminals advertising that they're criminals or part of a criminal fraternity in the first place. Back home the really dangerous dudes tend to be very inconsipicuous, driving normal cars, wearing normal clothes etc. to avoid general public reprisals. Surely the Mongrel Mob must lose a fair number of their members when someoner who was wronged by them goes vigilante with a shotgun etc?

No, because the rest of us are whipped pussies and let them get away with it. Also the law take a dim view of citizens that practise self defence against the poor down trodden criminal fu&kwits that are ruining this country...
They give me the shits, the gangs and the judges, don't really know which is worse to be honest.

I have to say when I watched the program I was pretty sceptical and it will take more than a prog or several yrs of "good behaviour" to change my mind
hats definately off to the husband/wife team helping them .. just hope it does not come back to haunt them later, also the time and energy they have put into the young ppl that they have taken in .. that is when you want to try and change a life is in its youth.
at least the gang have put the hard work into the centre so kids can get the benefits. If the older members can see their children going down the same road as themselves and wanting something better for them .. then good on them for supporting their children to get out of their bad habits ..
But realisitically its prob too late for their kids .. may be a shot for their grandkids though, as one leader said they have been a product of their upbringing, & are trying to break the cycle. lets hope for the betterment of society it will work but like others .. not holding my breath ...

Yep they do, actually. Or at least they used to, before they got all "We're good guys now"
"We haven't got cross cultural/gang agreements so that we can make more money off 'P' and other less conspicuous crime" - *Tui moment*
And yeah the Mongrels and a fair number of others, Headhunters, Highway 61, Black Power etc, are dressing in less conspicuous clothes and driving relatively ordinary cars and mixing in society circles. The ones you see are either the worst of the worst, John Gillies etc, or they're just 'associates'.

The Mongrel Mob are the worst of the lot - and you can't just resign and fade away like in the other gangs, they got you for life.
But I used to know a Mob member who was at least trying to turn his life, and more importantly the life of his kids around. This was in about 2000 when I knew him - he was up in Auckland and teaching his boys to box,he was renting a gym for training, and drove all over the country taking them to fights. He was pretty serious about it,putting in a lot of time with his two boys.OK,so boxing is not such a good thing to use for bonding and getting out of an abusive lifestyle, but you'll find boxing is a common way of getting kids off the streets, getting a purpose in life and rising above their station.
I remember one day he was away and told the boys to stay away from the van - but they went joy riding in it....and blew up the gearbox! He came down to work one night with the older boy,and I had to break it to him that the gearbox was really rooted - and he was really, really angry! He layed into the boy with heavy verbal abuse,I don't have to write it down here, but it wouldn't take much imagination to know what he was saying to the boy....much displeasure expressed.I was a bit troubled,I knew the boy was really going to get it....he just stood there in sulky defiance,he knew he had done wrong, that his father was really pissed off with him....but he was strong and was going to take it like a man.I watched them walk across and up the road, him never letting up the abuse on the boy - but I never saw him hit him.But I was certain he was going to get it at home. They came in the next day and there wasn't a mark on the boy...no fat lip or black eye,no bruising on his body,no limp.I was kinda proud of the father - he was strong enough to pull his punches and not perpetuate the physical abuse...it's a start eh?
One day looking through his van for an address or phone number for contact I came across a letter, and I thought it might tell me his contact details. It was a handwritten letter in neat cursive writting - from a mother to her son or sons.Ok,maybe she got someone to write it for her in jail, but I don't think so,this was from the mother. She told the boys how much she missed them, how much she loved them, how it broke her heart she couldn't be with them. This was a much read letter,it had been handled often, some one got a lot out of it.....I sure did.
They are still humans,we can't judge them unless we know them....
