That stunned me so much that I couldn't resist sticking my dirty nose in there. So went online to the highest bidder's auction and asked him questions to make sure he was sane.

He's already bought the bike apparently for half the price and has just placed a high bid to make sure he wins it for the feedback, that's all.

Got you excited there for a while aye being a 250 owner :blip: lol..

Peace out

Well that makes more sense...even 3.5k for it is a helluva lot tho...or at least that is my opinion.

Auction was withdrawn by seller. Winning bid also had a winning bid of $3000. I wouls say he got offered a cash buy by the winner of substantially less, but the winner also bid $7000 to prevent the embarressment of the bike being won by someone else ect ect...

What would you guys do without me?

Read the post a few above that says the guy bought it for half that price and then won the auction through the high bid to ensure feedback could be placed, or we could listen to you repeat what has already been said!

Some people can buy an old GN and save for that SV they really wanted. Not waisting $$$ on a 250...

i have said it before and i will say it again if the restriction dropped to 150cc you wouldnt be able to give a 250 away ..........you can get the same bike in a 400 for a 1/3 less

yeh but once you have stepped on to a high performance 600 bike the only thing that is relevant is how to use the brakes and how to turn it... its a whole different ball park being on a big bike.

LOL... You learn that the brakes are crap. You can't past people on the highway and the best of all is that you are stuck with the crap for at least a year till you can get your green card!!!

I must say that it was worth dropping my 250 as lesson rather that your expensive dream bike that was full fairing!!!

Say what you want about 250's being not that wonderful blah blah, however...i would hve my little 250 in the twisties over a big bike. I am pretty certain that a good rider on a 250 will give the boys on bigger bikes a fair challenge. A 400cc might be the perfect mix...what you boys reckon??

A fair challenge is about all though. I've ridden all the sport orientated 250s, and the modern 600s are no harder to hustle, providing you've got something other than little sticks for arms.

Besides which, twistys are the exception not the rule, and the 250s are teh ghey everywhere else in comparison :( Having said that, there will always be a home for a 96 Lucky Strike RGV or RS in my garage

/edit: Oh yeah, and the 88-90 CBR250s are horrible frekin arm chairs to ride that couldn't pull the skin off of a rice pudding

/edit: Arm chairs isn't fair or accurate, more like those little wooden chairs you had in primary school

I reckon an 05 or 06 R6 with fully setup ohlins front and back would shit all over you and then wipe its ass on your jacket, and probably be stopping in whitianga for lunch while you top up with fuel at coro :nya:

On the one hand, you're describing a $20000 bike, so it's not really a fair comparison... on the other hand $20k isn't really that much, and a small price to pay for such performance.

I don't think you'd even need the full Ohlins setup either.

Performance Bike (I think) mag did a test a short while ago between a mixture of the likes of ZX10R, a 600, Buell, motard, and a 400cc bike. 400cc rated poorly. Even against the ZX10R. And the Buell. They ran them all through a number of different corners and also over a short distance.

Interesting to hear, do you have any idea why the 400cc were rated so badly? I personally wont waste the time on a 400, i will happily jump onto a 600cc(636 or GSXR).

Them are fighting words...you are on:blip: (might have to do Kaiaua instead tho) I have been with motoracer before, and i am pretty sure that he would wipe me off the floor with his R6, but then it is an ex-race bike...nice thing it is too.

I never rode a 250, 400 was my first bike.

They did make mention of a slightly warped fron disc brake, but said it had no real bearing on the test. The point was that suspension and chassis technology had move on so far that the 400's no longer held the advantage they may have had in the early 90's. Even the thousands out handle them now.

Next time you see an auction like this and you know they're just bidding it up to make sure they've won it for the feedback let us all know - we could bid it up a bit more for a giggle!

Yep, I Reckon they are $ for $. They are a bit of a bargain really.
Trouble is I don't fit on them as well as I once used to.
So, I got the 600 because I'm getting older, and lazier.
600 does handle the wind heaps better though.

I think 250's are under rated too. Used to take my ex's GSX out on rides with the lads, and they wondered why they ever bothered to get a big bike at times. Couldn't shake me (Or keep up through the twisty bits) .

Thing is everybody has to start somewhere, and then they get something bigger. Some of the skilled will revert back to a little bike as a bit of a toy.
