Guess what, WCC have used their new found powers and are lowering the speed limit on Makara road.

It is an easy mix of 50, 60 and 70 zones so you won't get confused, or fall off whilst trying to work out how fast you should be going.

The existing 100km/hr zones in Makara and Ohariu Valley are being replaced with speed limits of 50km/hr and 60km/hr and Middleton Road limits will be 50km/hr and 70km/hr rather than 100km/hr. New speed signs will be in place.

Not surprising really - it would be pretty hard to maintain 100kph through that road anyway, much like Paekakariki.

I'd like to see a cop try to pull a U turn in there. Just make sure you speed heading away from the coast.

Bloody nanny state mentality. Let's wrap the entire world in cotton wool, ban every little thing that could possibly hurt us and call it a living.
Yet again they target locations with no history of fatal or serious accidents, and somehow justify making something that is not dangerous, less dangerous?
Well my toaster can kill. I could be electrocuted or if it was propelled from a cannon or similar catapult device at a persons head it would kill. So lets eliminate all motor vehicles capable of exceeding walking pace, all electrical devices and any object not safely bolted down.
The world is being taken over by pooftas and prats. Worse, the nannies to pooftas and prats.
Luckily there will be a Police car located 249m before and after every confusing speed zone change to ensure maximisation of income, compliance and prevent those accidents that weren't happening in the first place.
I'm off to stick my head in my toaster
