no offence to vero but they are terribly expensive...

Try Star insurance, or www.kiwibike.co.nz (Protecta)

you will pay 1/4 of the price of vero!!!

Thank you for the phone number and your thoughts. I have a price from Vero through DAvid of $564 for my Hornet with an insured value of $9,200 and $700 excess. Seems reasonable. I wanted to talk to him about cover for a couple of Quad bikes as well, but for the life of me I could not find his phone number.

On the contrary I found Classiccover (Vero) to be the cheapest by far.
I was with AMI and paying $900 fully comp $600 excess for 01 Gixxer Thou worth $11k with pipe/pcIII. Im 32YO, full NCD.
Quotes elsewhere:
Kiwibike $860
John Baker $785
Classic Cover $535 $500 Excess and Trackday cover......
easy decision, but I suppose everyones got different risk factors.

I just rang Vero in Wellington. They do not offer motorcycle insurance.

So far, Kiwibike Insurance (http://www.kiwibike.co.nz) [0800 629 253] gave me the best option for full/comprehensive with Swan Insurance.

If you are shopping for insurance, be sure to ask what else is available besides full / comprehensive.
You can usually get Third Party - Fire - Theft, or the cheapest is Third Party Only which may be as cheap as $24 a year.

I have heard of some bikers without any insurance at all, which is really stupid when scratches / dents along an expensive car can cost $2000 or more, so Third Party Only is a must.

Ignoring the fact that you're replying to a thread that is over two years old...

Kiwibike, while giving me a damn good quote on my old bike, wasn't able to come even close to what I got from David Golightly.

They were wanting in excess of $700 a year for a VFR400R valued at $5,000, and they wanted $700 a year for a 1978 RD valued at $2,000. Let's not even touch the massive excesses either.

Mr. Golightly however quoted me $600 to insure BOTH, and with a excess of just $550 (dropping to less than half of that once I hit 25).

I know who I'm going with. :niceone:

Yep, I know its an old thread, but a Google search got me here so I thought I would add an update.

Just rang David Golightly 03 357 2428.
Nice chap, and gave me the best price yet and it covers gear also - even for a pillion - and the monthly payments have no extra cost, simply the annual cost divided by 12. The insurance is with Vero - I told him about my call to the Vero Wellington office and he said they should have referred me on to him. David knew nothing about Classic Cover for motorcycles.

Funny - my renewal is more expensive via Kiwibike than Protecta.

Yep - was with protecta and insurance came up for renewal. Shopped a round a bit and ended up with David Golightly through Hondasure. Was $300 cheaper than renewing with protecta...

mmmm this is an old thread but thought I would put my 2 cents worth in, David covers for almost everything, even if your gear gets pinched while you are at the gas station etc. he will replace it! and $582 bucks a year for an $8000 bike is pretty good.
