One of our National Office guy's came into a meeting one of my meetings this morning he rides a new/ish blue 636... He was moaning to one of the older bike riding managers about his ride over the Taka's on the weekend. Something along the lines of "those a-holes have no regard for anyone but themselves"... No coincidence. That'll be him.

We were coming up behind him and he was right behind a car - Jimbo and Sug went round him and the car, into a left hander. I'm sure he moved over when he saw Jimbo coming and may have tried to pull out and chase him, but for a big green Kwaka in the way.
Anyway - I didn't think it was too dodgy, and upon reflection those manouvres always look worse from behind.
But - the guy got to vent his spleen - then told to f**k off.

Nah you guys own the road. Str8's just acknowledging that.
The other dude needs to harden up and learn to watch his mirrors a bit more.
I had a dumbass grizzle at me one time riding through Masterton he was slow as and hanging on the centreline. When he stops to give way at a roundabout I legally pull up beside him on the left and then take off when its clear (faster than him of course so passed him with that manouever). We stop later on the ride he moans his arse off at me about passing him on the left - I just told him to read his road code about passing when stationary or when indicating a turn. Some f'wits are just so self righteous when they don't know enough about the real rules.

Yeah, it was a top ride eh Flame!
Some people pm'ed me asking if I'd taken my 9 on the ride lol, for the record, no I did not ride my racebike that some times mascarades as a road bike, I was on my road bike that sometimes mascarades as an race bike lol (the 1989 ZXR750)
It was none other than flame lofting the front wheel on her 9! No wheelies on the 750 from me, I just sat back and got given the learn on the stunts section of the ride
As for that guy on the GN636 lol
Both Jimbo600 and I gave cry baby a good 3 meters passing him on the outside nice and safe, even he had to admit we had not put him in any danger what so ever.
For the record it was me he had the biggest issue with, apparently I'm going to crash any ride now, I'm a real cunt and I was not that fast anyway. I'm sure he was in a good position to tell for 2.5 corners.
I had to tell him to stop dribbling and fuck off as he seemed to be setting up camp beside us :nono:
Anyways, once Jimbo600 and I passed him and some traffic we did get a chance to flow a little bit between traffic blocks and had a moderately rapid ascent of the hill and a moderate wee battle. It was just low key fun as far as we were concerned. Not like we had any slides or anything resembling a close call.
I've only been told off 3 times now on the hill, once by Mr Fuck, so who cares, this time by MR GN636, again :whocares:
The other time was very well deserved. I was only 19 years old at the time.
I was told off by someone I really respected, so that was even a bigger ouch.
I was sick of riding up front on my own all the time, so I had this brainwave to start at the back of a vic club ride at the bottom of the rapa side coming up....there were between 15 and 20 riders, so I gave them what I thought was a OK lead and set of in pursuit, I had my head down and when approaching that 1st decent right hand hairpin I looked up from my bubble and realized I was going really quick and they had all bunched up for the corner, so I ended up having to go up the inside and I passed the entire club in one corner, ooppppsss!
Mark Baraclough the senior most member absolutely tore strips off me at the top, as mentioned, it was well deserved. That guy taught me a lot about lines over the hill so I was really disappointed I'd pissed him off :pinch:

If your unsafe and are going to crash soon because of an erratic riding style then that doesnt say much about the rest of us, as your about the smoothest 'fast' person I know. Tell him to go for a ride with Mikey next time, it'll scare the crap out him :blah:

Anyone know of a local guy with short man's disease who rides a blue ZXR636?
Oooohhhh!! I know this guy.
I was out doing a few quiet runs (yeah right) on the hill when I came across Mr Blue Meanie to be what looked like practising as well. I waved to him and carried on doing my own thing.
I had enough so I was on my last run down the hill going at what I would call an easy pace when Mr Blue Meanie came wazzing up behind me.
Now we all have some sort of competitive bone lurking within, so I did what anyone one of us would do and increased the pace to see what Mr Blue Meanie had.
He reacted by staying with me.
Game on me thinks.
So chocks away I let her rip and do a not so shabby run down the hill, get to the bottom straights, do a mirror check......no Mr Blue Meanie.
I slow down, pull over and stop just as Mr Blue Meanie comes into sight.
I wave to him as he goes by, and I'm still not sure if he waved back or gave me the finger.
I agree with Jimbo that, Quote..."Anyone who knows us round here knows that we ride fairly hard, but with reasonable care towards cagers. Last thing we want is to piss em off. Cunt was jut all boohooey cos he got learnt."
Mr Blue Meanie I think your learning days have just begun. :finger:

I noticed alot of people talk about how they are fast they are over the takas. My question is what is considerd fast? i have a mate who says he can do it in 7 1/2 mins on his tl1000s. Has anyone ever timed them selves? what is the fastest time over the hill on a 250? where do you time your self from? do you stick to the speed limit? just curios. I love playing on the takas on Sundays but I know I am no match for most people but I still ride as hard as I can over it :)

He'll calm down if he can learn to ride with pace. Till then, Any faster is an inconsiderate A-hole.
Thanks for the blat to Martinborough guys, Pace was alot faster than I normally ride on the roads, but I agree, The riding was respectful of other vehicles.

Anything approaching 5mins flat is a quick lap time on the hill on the upper hutt-top side. Not sure about feathers-top side as its not quite as fast and is a little longer. Downhill, no idea but suspect it may be a little slower

Im talking about the way everyone is going on about how fast they can go over the Taka's, yes I like to ride fast but I do it in such a way that I'm not encouraging others to try & keep up or try things i can do when I know their ability is not to any sort of level where they can safely keep up. This thread seems to be encouraging riders with a leser ability than your own & others you ride with to ride at a speed where an accident is the most likely outcome.
How would you feel when a learner see's you racing off into the distance & thinks if he can do it so can I - normal outcome of this is a trip to hospital.
Hey ride fast & hard but think about who you are influencing & their ability.

The Takas should always be treated with the respect they deserve. They are demanding enough to fully test a rider of any ability and pretty unforgiving for anybody who gets it wrong, or who encounters somebody else who has got it wrong. Anybody who safely pilots their ride to the top and down again deserves respect. The speed or the size and number of pies involved should always be a secondary consideration to personal comfort and safety.

Rarely do hear direct competition on these forums (or in my threads :)) regarding peice of road. General banter maybe, but not serious. This is why Ive never seen an actual time stated, or hear of one being recorded on this forum (or real life).
Anyone who is making it their mission to be faster than everyone else on that hill needs the head checked.

Hey ride fast & hard but think about who you are influencing & their ability.
Fully agree with you, and I/we have actively discouraged 'newbies' from trying to keep up.
Having said that - many bikers have been attempting to get over that hill as quickly as possible for many years, and will continue to do so for many years to come.
As long as they keep making sportsbikes, some riders will continue to push their limits, regardless of what anyone says to them.

Yeap, and I greatly appreciate it; my first trtnr/kb ride was out to wainui coast with Madboy, Deano and a few others - madboy pulled me over and told me to take it at my own pace - because of this I instantly respected him and still do respect him today.
When out riding with the some of the faster guys I let them go do their thing - it doesnt bother me at all.

Well everyone knows I'm the fastest anyway. I also like to impress newbs by showing them how fast I am, and how I can lane split at 100kmh.
Actually I like to impress newbies on the condition I keep my bike in, and by waving to cars that pull over, and by waving to them for being out on a bike. As for timed events, the only one I'm interested in is the Gladstone hill climb which is a controlled event, to which I might add Deano is the current Welly hardcore champ. (Till next time boyo)
As for bragging who the quickest up the hill is, well thats like bragging who can lay the biggest turd, because no two days are the same and and the end of the day who cares.

Couldnt have said it better myself!
Thats the real way to influence newbies:sunny:

A time is objective - but as stated, what or who do you compare it to? Words like "quick" "fast" etc are subjective. It's your own opinion that matters, no one else's.

I came back from a track day and was stoked how fast I went over the hill. Felt bloody fast, but I still would have had to wait some time for someone to come along that was slower than me.
Its all relative as you say.
If I can keep up with someone who I respect for a part of the climb, then Im happy.

The problem with what Pickle has said is you have absolutely no control over what anyone else choses to do. Pickle no doubt you have passed other bikes on the hill - once you did tootle past me on your KLR when we were all poncing about following Paul on his Guzzi as runs leader one day for example.
Now if I was some noob unknown to you and decided to chase off down the hill after you whether you are on your ZX or KLR and crashed before you realised I was trying to stay with you how can you say "yes I like to ride fast but I do it in such a way that I'm not encouraging others to try & keep up or try things i can do when I know their ability is not to any sort of level where they can safely keep up"? As soon as you pass anyone they may all of a sudden think their prowess is under threat and take off out of their depth. Do you slow down immediately you pass? Yeah right!! What if you don't see them doing this behind you?
The point is biking is a rather individualistic thing and we cannot be responsible for people we don't know and you can't ride the bike for them. Sure talk to our own noobs and encourage them to develop skills before they get out of their depth and I think the KB crew are doing that well. Otherwise lead by example and try not to do things too dumb ourselves.

Thats because normally after the first corner me and my bike have parted company.

I recall a thread once in the dank and dark mists of time that noted some ludicrously quick bridge-to-bridge times for the Takas. Many I suspect were recorded in those more gentle times before horse floats and SUVs on the wrong side of the road...
bridge - bridge time??? are they the bridges at the ends of the long straightish roads?

From the bridge by Kaitoke gardens to the first of the twin bridges on the Featherston side (or vice versa). And seven-and-a-half minutes may or may not be quick...

Spot on Merv.

There was a thread about this as Hitcher has pointed out - from memory, 7.5 minutes was about as quick as I recall from the thread, the likes of Dave Hiscock ???? Not as much traffic back then though...and bikes not as fast or refined.
