Well it's a bloody embarrassment. The tossers will do a haka at the opening of an envelope.

The haka - any haka - is a challenge. I like the new haka Kapa'o'pango - - it'll be some time before anyone can learn that and plaguerise it around the world. One haka for marketing and one for a challenge....

Where did the thumb across the throat originate anyway ?

Was it in original authentic Maori haka ?

If not, did they get permission to use it ?

There is no, one,"authentic" haka.
Te Rauparahas haka which everyone is familiar with is just one of hundreds.
Good on the blacks for devising one of their own!

The haka is a nice little dance, but the scottish should do a crossed swords dance and the Ozzies should do a drunken dance as well.

Those f*cken things should be banned properly. They're starting to appear in club rugby now. I asked Rob Cashman, a physio for a couple of NZ teams (notably Softball) and he cannot see any benefit from having a forearm strapped like that other than to protect from prior bruising.

I'm surprised that the new haka is acceptable to Auntie Helen and her lesbian sidekicks. Thought that Morris dancing would have been more politically correct.

Colapop

I like the new haka because they actually do it with a bit of passion. Ka Mate was getting a bit old and they really didn't get into it. Wich may be why the aussies don't like the new one. It scares them again lol.

Colapop

It was a damn good game too. No chance to cry about the ref (who did a fairly good job - only missed a couple), they can't cry about Richie 'cheating' (the ref was on his ass like white on rice) and they can't cery about the haka (Coz it was Ka Mate).
The thing that I will moan about is the Australian team warming up after the national anthems etc. Not because it was disrespectful to the haka or anthems but because the game is scheduled to kick at a ceertain time. If club teams piss around in the sheds too much the ref will start the game with a penalty. Why was that not applied last night?

30th July 2006, 15:18
That new haka is great, the throat cut move is hilarious!

But it isn't adequate. A challenge on a rugby field should remain that.

Don't be disrespectful to the opposition by gesturing such offensive threats.
If the throat cutting was removed, I think that haka would be far more respectable and as a reulst, enjoyed by more than just New Zealanders.

Colapop
30th July 2006, 15:22
I gotta agree. I like the new haka but the final gesture could be taken the wrong way, especially if you put it into the context of expanding the game globally. I think they should remove it but quietly and not at anyone's insistence.

So change our culture to make it more acceptable to the world public, does that mean it is still our culture or have we gone that PC these days that non conforming cultures are to be censored?
