 Soooooooooo pissed off today: Finally got a bit of clear weather to continue running in my new 1200 Bandit, and some %$#%#$ in the car in front of me tosses his used butt out of his car's window, and it ends up burning a nasty hole in my riding jacket. Got his rego, will try and cause some trouble for him at the cops......

Post his rego on the site. One of us will come accross him sooner or later and set fire to his piece of shit tin top. Pisses me off when people throw butts out the window. Damn dangerous too.

It was a red Mitsubishi (I don't know what model, they all look the same to me), rego ZO8121. I wouldn't mind finding out what his address is, I'd like to go and lay a personal claim for replacement of my $500 jacket, which I could hardly afford in the first place.
I think you can find out his name and address from going to nz post and paying a few bucks.
Sucks about your jacket though. Should have gone past and kicked his mirrors in.

Yeah, the things some people will throw out of their car windows. I've seen whole left over dinners of KFC & McD's thrown out of moving vehicles into the middle of the road...imagine if you had an open Big Mac splatter against your clean visor causing you to bin your pride and joy!
Sorry to hear about your expensive jacket, the worst I've ever suffered like that is a couple of bad bee stings on my neck...better a bee than a burning butt though.
You can go to any NZ Post shop, pay $2.50 and get the address where the car is registered to.
It always gives me the shits seeing butts (cigarette!) come out the window, and have luckily never had one hit me or my bike, but realised the potential was there. I would lay a complaint with the police first, asking for compensation for a new jacket (what sort was it?)
Good luck. Let us know what happens.
PS: welcome to the KB site!!

Totally unnecessary when they have an ashtray right under the radio! I've nearly been agitated to the point of retalliation due to the same offence recently, too.
I stop to enjoy my ciggarettes.

Thanks for the welcome, and one of the other members have already supplied the registered address of the car's owner, for which I thank him again. I am going to follow your advice though, and lay a charge with the cops this morning. The jacket is a K-way, which I brought to NZ from South Africa. Will keep everyone up to date with what's happening regarding this matter.

Dude i feel for you.
I was out riding and came up behind an older toyota wagon blowing smoke, i didnt get to close as the smoke was killing me, anyway i see the driver eyeing me up in the mirror, next thing he winds down his window and starts throwing stuff out at me, for real! man i was pretty brassed off so i flew past him and then slowed down in front of him to about 90km (pretty stupid i know) anyway he came real close and i just touched the brake so the lights came on, he got a fright and i continued at 90-100 with him on my ass, i came to my senses and realised this was not a good situation to be in! but rather than speeding off (often cops around this stretch of road) as i knew he would try and catch me, i pulled over to let him past, he came past real close and tried to run me off the road. i gave him the bird etc and he then slowed down to about 90 in front of me, i was hopping mad, but just sat behind him fuming.
Anyway we round this corner and a cop car is coming the other way! perfect! i make big hand movements and pull over, the cop turns around and pulls up behind me, once the dick in the car sees me waving down the cop he gaps its! I tell the cop the story and he radios ahead.
I take off and coming into the next small town i see a cop car with flashing lights has pulled the idiot over! Woohoo, i stop and walk over abusing the driver as hes talking to the cop, the cop breaks us up and says he got him for speeding, no wof and no reg, it will be about $700.
So cops arent all bad, they do serve a purpose, there are some real nutbars out there!

I've been missed by cigarette butts a few times, and have worried that one will end up in my lap or inside my helmet (I generally commute with it open). It's all very well saying "leather's better", but I had a leather jacket at the time I bought my Teknic, and it wasn't warm enough in winter, it was too hot in summer, it wasn't waterproof, and it didn't have enough built-in crash protection. These are all things my Teknic is better for. BUT being mostly Cordura (with some kevlar and leather), it is flammable, and I don't want to catch on fire one day because some f&*$wit litterbug throws a butt out his window.
By the way, Torban: if you (or anyone else) need to get your jacket repaired, try Kerrie at MSW in St Kevins Arcade on Karangahape Rd. Ph 309 9522.
I've (ahem) had a few repairs done by her, and she is VERY VERY good.

I had one land in my lap when I was driving a cage. Passenger from a fellow commuter (merc of some sort).
Man did they shit themselves when they realised what they had done and why a matte black xe falcon with tinted windows had a pony tailed, goateed, westie staring back at them  Just to complete the scene I had Thorogood blaring away.
Did not help my now f*^#ed $180 dress pants, as such I had to go to a job interview in jeans instead.
But oh well at least this was on the southern..... So I was only doing 5kmph and had plenty of time to pick it of my balls and flick it back at her now closed window.

Wouldn't jeans be standard interview threads for a westie ? :msn-wink:

Funny you should say.... I got my current job applying in Jeans,
Johhny Reb MC Boots,
Collared denim shirt,
Tie.
Didn't get the one on that day though. They thought I was too scruffy to be a truck driver. Wearing the same threads as above. :killingme

An update on the saga of the butt-burnt jacket: spoke to the good people at the insurance company today, they have consented to replace the jacket, and "will endeavour to recover all costs from the owner of the other vehicle", so here's to hoping they make the @#$% pay. Now a different question: which are good jackets available in NZ????? I am hoping to recover around $500, which will have to cover replacement cost..... :msn-wink:

Try Mt Eden M/C, and Motomail. They both have a reasonable selection (esp. Motomail, which has stuff ranging from cheapish to very expensive).
A lot of the stuff for sale is Italian, but there is also some SE Asian gear available.
Same old story though - you get what you pay for.

I really like my Nazran. Two years of daily abuse later it looks fairly tidy. I recenty applied some Gekko Guard water reppellent to re waterproof it, it Has never leaked wher the gel membrane liner is but it has been known to leak around the collars and cuffs when saturated by pooling water. eg when gloves are out side jacket.
$450. And I would happily pay that again when this one wears out or after a crash. Has, elbow, shoulder and back protection. I have no idea what it is like in a skid but it has lots of pockets, a zip out liner, waterproof cellphone pocket and bloody warm.
Bought it from Red Baron, but most good stockists carry Nazran. Apparently they are brought in by the same distributers that do Metzler.

The importer is called Forbes and Davies. They do Nazran and Metzeler to name but a few. Their web page list all the items they import ot manufacture and you can select who your nearest dealer is. They do not sell to the public though.

Interesting to see that on Fair Go last night the story of being able to get names/addresses from rego plates was featured.
I have to say that in this day and age with the Privacy Act being what it is, I really can't believe that you can still get this info from a number plate - it isn't logical compared with all the other stuff you CAN'T do because of the Privacy Act. (I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just inconsistent)

I reckon, legally I can't give an employee's family the employees ph no.
I have to take a message phone the employee and get them to phone the original caller.
What a waste of my day!
I can see the point but when I recognise the voice as their mother I should be able to give it out.

I see in the herald today - i think it was first section - that the AA is making some noise about that... http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?thesection=news&thesubsection=&storyID=3571910
I do notice that some change has been made already, in that when you re-register a vehicle, the ownership history no longer shows the name and address of previous owners, just the times and corresponding odometer readings

Oh yeah that's right.
You can also get the best looking GSXR jackets from Welly Motorcycles. I have gone from looking like a complete twat in the pub wearing full leathers to looking the sharpest customer on the planet in my gixxer jacket.
