so after spending 2 hours night riding on friday I need some serious suggestions on how to aleviate fog from the inside of the visor

tried a breate guard .. no good
tried anti fog crap .. vision went blurry
tried a scarf over nose/mouth.. no good

I am asthmatic, and therefore (stated by some theorists) I suffer from hyper ventilation (meaning I breathe heavy ;) )

any suggestion would be welcomed .. anything !!

ended up riding with my visor slightly open, but at near freezing temperatures, this was not fun

Get a visor insert from oxford or whoever, they stick to the inside of your visor creating a double glazing type arrangement. About 30 bucks from whereever and they work brilliantly, can huff and huff on to the visor with no fogging

Nolan Pinlock system, its the best one I have tried and under very cold conditions too.
Ask Lou Girardin, he will put you right. Cheers John.

On cold mornings I just wear a bandana in town. Otherwise it's the balaclava. I don't have any problems with fogging up. If you have to stop at lights etc then directional breathing works good.

Or just try going faster:doobey:

I usually raise the visor a little and then moan about the cold and then put the visor down and get fogged up again and then make mental note about finding a solution which I forget by the time I get to town..

Hopeless. I did see some of that antifog cream in the shop the other day. Do you not recommend it?

Ive got an HJC and got a breath guard for $18 from motomail.

I have to make sure that it seals around my nose properly (big) and then everything is fine. Occasionaly it will still fog up if I cough, but otherwise it works well for me.

Meh,just harden up. I just crack the visor open a bit.

Spit should work too. Swimmers spit in their goggles and wipe it around, so it should work for a visor. I've personally never tried it though.

I have a pinlock system to fit my Arai Chaser...absolutely brilliant. Survived the frosty (and mean FROSTY) mornings in Taupo test with flying colours....now if I can only stop my glasses fogging up.......

Visor insert or pinlock system.

Cat crap is useless, but I sacrificed ten bucks to find that out for you all.

These are cheap and work well on all helmets not just Nolan http://www.phoenixnw.co.uk/fogcity.html

remember reading that cutting a potato in half and wiping that on the inside of the visor works... mind you, never tried it so don't know if they were taking the piss...

cowboyz
30th July 2006, 20:13
potato works on bathroom mirror. as does dishwash liquid. Dont like the idea of looking through it though

Ixion
30th July 2006, 20:16
You have to piss on the potato first though. Effect is due to interaction bewtten uric acid in the piss and starch in the potato.

Have an HJC helmet and use warm water with heavy dose of dishwash liquid and wiped off with paper towel, then wipe off with damp paper towel again and then dry paper towel. Sounds a bit fiddlerly, but seems to work okay.

Yep, a spud will work but makes your view somewhat hazy. :(

I have a breath guard as standard on the HJC but still fogs up when really cold and induces a real cold air vortex around the neck and chin. End up riding with the visor open a crack which is cold.

Don't waste time with half measures, seriously get a Uvex helmet, they NEVER fog.

straight dishwash liquid polished in with soft tissue paper works best. has to be done each day though

jesus h christ.

just get a 20 buck visor insert. they work a treat.

Merwood
30th July 2006, 20:42
ride with the visor up a tad i say.... or pay the 30 odd bucks for the insert thingy, or you could get one of those cool open face helmets :blip:

Go for the visor insert, they are fantastic and well worth the money. Cheaper than crashing.

Dririder has a "FogOff" (try saying it quickly... Cheeky Aussies!) balaclava arrangement that has pipes to direct exhaled air down and out of the helmet like an upsidedown snorkel. Never tried them but they're similar to an idea I had ages back that I never got round to putting together. If Road and Sport had them in stock when I was last in there, I'd've been tempted to buy one. Could be a costly experiment if it didn't work, though.

After having fist sized rocks hit my visor off the back of Dazza's Duke I wont, it hurt my neck with the force and left huge gouges in the Visor , but not a broken jaw!

All I nose is that since using a pinlock antifog system I will never not have one. Only hassle is that they can get scratched up in normal use but it's one of those things that I can't imagine living without.

I have to wear glasses when I ride so i get double blinded, visor fog and glasses.
Ive found an Oxford breath guard and a visor insert together will do the job. Riding with the visor cracked also helps/

Yep, sAsLEX is spot on. Mines fine, got the light activated tint one for no extra cost either. Killed 2 birds with one stone, as they say.

You are so right sAsLEX, I was looking at the visor on my relatively new helmet and there are some serious gouges where stones have hit it and that's just from vehicles on sealed roads. John.

Yay, Pledge! I carry a can and a soft cloth in the tankbag and clean the helmet and visor at each stop. It's also good for the headlights and screens on our bikes. A fantastic product. Thank you Mr Johnson.

I can get you a pile of catshit cheaper than that... 2 cats, probably crap once a day - more if we give 'em too much fibre

Well, that is just disgraceful.

What idiot was responsible for stringing that red mesh right across the road? Blurdy youffs again I suppose. Think it's funny to see a biker hit their ruddy net and come off. A good flogging is what they need.

Roads a bit narrow too, isn't it.

i have ones of those "FOGG OFF" things, is the best thing i have ever used, can be sitting at a standstill with the visor completly shut, in the pissing down rain and my visor will not fog at all.

I found that an anti fog visor insert works very well.........along with riding with the visor slightly open (a fraction of an inch tbh).

You can always try smearing fairy liquid on the inside, this has also known to work..but foams up when it gets wet though....which can be kinda fun and smells soooooooooooo good.

A Celtic Reconstructionist like myself would probably believe it was an entry point into the Otherworlds - and if I hit it at speed, I would possibly be right...

One of our beliefs is that in the fog the boundaries between this world and the Otherworlds are weakened and when abroad in the fog you can unwittingly cross from one to the other. Given a thick enough fog and a fast moving vehicle, this too can be proved to be true...
