coming back from a great ride today i spot a ewe cast in a paddock..carry on a bit but then think what the hell i will go back and turn the old girl up the right way....parked the bike up and trekked all the way over to her..rolled her onto her feet and held her there for a while until she was steady...eventually she ok and off she goes..it was obvious she had been there a fair while,next thing as i am walking back to the road i hear tooting and see this cocky coming at a millon miles an hour across the paddock...fuck me he went mental..i am trying to explain but he didnt want to no..i say to him "whatta think i was doing shagging the fucken thing" he replys "wouldnt surprise me you bikey bastard"in the end i just gave up and walked away..he was still ranting about calling the cops.next time i will just carry on.:yes:

You still did the right thing mate, thats his problem, would have told him go ahead and ring the cops, would have sat and waited for them. he's the dick you show him up, as not being a very good farmer.

Blows you away with some peoples attitudes when you try and do some good.

I remember one night out possum shooting with me mate on a farm the council got us onto, we had been shooting for about three hours it was about 11 pm on a cold winters night. Came into a hollow that had a creek running through it with a deep bog and a large beefer was up to it's head in the bog. Must have been there for ages as it was so weak, it could barely hold it's head up.

We found a log and managed to get it under the beefers head and then walked five kilometres over hills to wake the farmer and let him know an $800.00 beefer (at that time) was about to get sucked under for good.
I'm too tired and can't be bothered was his reply. Was real peeved we had woken him up and said he would check it in the morning sometime. We pased the beefer on the way back to the car and it was still hanging in there.

In hind sight we should have shot the poor bugger in the head but then we probably would have got the blame for it. :(

Some cockys are just straight out arrogant pricks. Struck similar situations when I was contracting, sheep tied up in fences, or cast with grass-seed staggers. Try helping them and have the farmer turn up & basically accuse you of sizing the sheep for the freezer :angry:

Some farmers get real tetchy about things like that, I wish they were as concerned about the shit they leave all over the bloody roads though, that would be helpful.
Where did you go today? I went for a ride down to Oamaru then with a crowd from Timaru (Ulyssians) to Moeraki for lunch and back up the coast road then home via Ngapara.
Bloody good ride, chilly but very enjoyable.

Good on you for caring, shame the cocky didn't see it that way. I stopped once and went into a farm to let them know one of their sheep was cast (I was wearing a dress and high heels and didn't fancy traipsing across the paddock to right it!) and got a similar reaction - "it will be fine, just leave it".

I can understand that he may have been worried about a stranger being on his property, but once you explained what you were doing, you'd think he would have appreciated the fact that you cared enough for the welfare of HIS animal to stop and help it.
