Could anyone please tell me, I would like to go to pukekohe to give my bike a blat on one of the track days. I have all the gear exept bike pants. I ride in jeans. Is jeans OK to at the pukekohe track days or do you have to have proper bike pants?

They might let you, no guarantees, but for the price of three track days, do yourself a favour and PM quasievil. He has good supplies of leather pants at very good rates for KBers.
I've blatted around Puke, and believe me, and even more, the guys on here who have come off there, don't do it in jeans!!

Ideally the minimum gear for any ride on the track should be zip together leathers/one piece suit, back protector, good helmet, and leather gloves.

Thats my opinion, and it echoes MNZ minimum requirements for racing.

They may let you out like that, but I sure as hell wouldn't reccommend it!

Dude if you can stretch at all to afford it, you have to get the best gear you can for the road, let alone the track. Skin takes along time to grow back. Definitely leather for the track.

Doesn't really matter, Your skin will eventually grow back!

Haha, yeah Dafe, skin grows back for free (as long as you don't have to go to the hospital to get cleaned up).

In all seriousness, you might want some leathers with some knee sliders. Just look for a second hand set that somebody has already damaged. Leather repairs are very cheap compared to buying a new suit. I think my suit cost $200 and it has saved me heaps on doctors bills, it was a pre-crashed suit. I'm pretty sure that they are very lax on their testing days. Just sign a waiver and you're all good to go. But I had thought that motorcycles weren't allowed on Puke any more, maybe that's just no racing on Puke at the moment.

Let us know what lap times you get on the lovely VFR

I sincerely do not recommend you go track or even road, in jeans.

Do a Google search on motorcycle accidents in jeans and if you havent brought your brekkie up after that, go to the emergency ward at a hospital after a bike accident, when the rider has had a good slide down the tarmac, skin file in jeans.

A deep graze can take months to heal up but at speed, it's often ground down to the bone. :(

Dress for the slide, not the ride.

Once you have been down the road or track, in jeans, you will forever wish you had spent some extra mulla on decent gear. Not worth the risk.

Just some friendly advice.

I can send you some good pictures of what coming off in leathers results in.

Followed by three months of daily dressing changes (and a week in hospital with an infection)

The scars are cool though.

In denim I dont think they would be so cool, chicks don't dig stumps. Apart from the really kinky bitches.

You are probably a much better rider than me.

I'm surprised the safety marshals let you. What track was it ?

Second that. Good riders never fall off.

Thats why the average set of leathers for Moto GP is made entirely of Denim and cotton T shirts.

They just charge 5 or 6 grand for them to make people think they are safety conscious.

I am sure Shaun, or Stroud, or anyone else to hit quick laptimes never falls off, because they are now just so good at it. Thats why they dress like Wal from footrot flats. Also if you are going fast, falling off mightn't hurt as much.
So, yeah, just wear your dress pants and a ballerinas skirt. You'll be fine, whats all the fuss about?

Thanks everyone for your replies. Appreciate it. I think a pair of leathers may be in order. It just takes something like this and reading what some of you guys have said to give me a bit of a kick up the arse and go and purchase a suit. Thanks again. See you on the track.
Quasievil: Thanks very much for the offer. Think I should buy some tho. For some reason I cant seem to get into your website? Is there any reason at the moment?

yeah i was at pukekohe last weekend and they were all sweet about. i could of turned up in singlet and shorts and gumboots and that would have been sweet. i dont plan on falling off. i would rather not push the limits and walk away with a bike than go hard and walk away broken.

Go the the muppet racer thread, http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=33154&highlight=muppet and ask who really planned on falling off on there.

I'm sure we all plan our bins. Sure, I think I'll throw away 5 grand worth of fairings today, hmm, yeah, what the heck.

Even better idea, plan for the eventuality, and then if it doesn't happen, you still look good. I have the odd scar from falling off in full gear now, and it doesn't take much.

Four weeks ago on Puke, with the drifters out the exit from every turn was just plain dodgy, the weather was good, but the drifters were bringing mud from off the track, right onto the lines. I'm not a rider of spectacular ability, but I nearly highsided several times, lost the front end a couple of times. I was able to keep it up. but will you be able to every time?

Especially at Puke, it isn't worth the risk.

Following a guy at taupo once, and his front brakes heated up a little and locked up. Not going hard. 110km down the track on your arse.
Will your jeans survive that?

No.

Wear the gear!!

Prevention is better then being wise after the event eh ?
