I know they flex like a mofo!

If the flexing is really bad you can make it better by having the right tires, right tire pressures, fiddle with the forks, fiddle with the rear susspension etc if one thing is out of wack on them it makes it flex alot worse. But it doesnt have the nick name "the hinge" for nothing...

lols yeah right :wait: thats why they had their own race series when they first came out. The VS750 & 1400 intruder was known as the "Hinge" when it was first released

On XJs original mufflers rust easily, they'll eat camchains if not maintained properly, the charging system can cause issues, and the gear selector spring is weak (but an easy cheap fix). fork seals can let go also.

I clocked up close to 60000kms on my XJ750D (fuel injected model) & had only 2 issues with it, mufflers rusting out by the drain holes, and the management system for the injectors packed up. Apart from that it was a great bike only let down by lack of ground clearance.

Different climate perhaps but here XJs of that age, whatever model, are notorious for the brakes corroding up in winter,i.e. solid.Apart from that they`re pretty bullet-proof and plenty of really nice pre-Diversion 600s and 900s still on the road.
