View Full Version : Does anyone else have trouble with Ihug?

I have had Ihug dialup for about 4 years, and its been so fast up until the last few months, when it slowed right down, heaps of this page cannot be displayed, errors ect.... the funny thing is that after doing all the scans for spyware and stuff and finding nothing if note, I borrowed a friends Xtra username and password, and If I connect using that the difference is phenominal, like the difference between broadband and dialup, Ihug can't seem to help, but to change ISP would ba a major hassle with email addresses ect, where to from here?

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA....

Sorry... just makes a change from the Xtra are shit stuff...

Changing ISP is a piece of piss... IHug might charge you a small amount to keep your email account open, but just tell everyone you know that it's changed, and presto, done.

im paying for 3.5mb connection and only getting 512k-ish in the evenings due to congestion on the exchange. they are blaming telecom and saying there is nothing they can do.

To state the obvious. DSL

check for noisy lines ?
Change cables.
It does sound suspiciously like IHUG have made a change.

Ive noticed a slowing down of my Paradise dial up in this time period too. And have to log on at least twice to get connected. Perhaps its a subtle way of encouraging us to buy broadband

hmmmm...time for some conspiracy thoughts.... ISP's want everyone to take up broadbean 'cus they get more money for it off us sad sacks...one easy way is to decimate (or retard it substantially) dail up sevice to the point where existing customers get sick of waiting and switch over to broadbean on one of their attractive joining up offers, I know I'm tempted.

fuck it, I use vodafone 3g for my internet access. $49+gst a month for 1 gig of data at about 230kb/s

that way I don't have to pay a cent to those thieving telecom motherfuckers.

Change ISP's and go onto DSL if you can. It's not worth the hassle staying with them. Just keep the account for email. I pay $5 a month for my email address that I've had for years but since I changed from them I've had 3 different ISP's. These days it's just way too painful to lose that email address. Wouldn't be able to remember every site I've used that address on so I'd lose access to 80% of sites.

Orcon let you keep your email addy for free even if you change isps.

Just another reason why you shouldnt use your isp as your email provider!

they are blaming telecom and saying there is nothing they can do.

It's probably congestion...

They can report directly to telecom and get your exchange put on the list of those needing upgrading.

Other ISPs blaming Telecom is the easiest cop-out in the business.

yes it is congestion... and according to a friend of mine at telecom, my exchange isnt on the list anywhere in the next 6months. it's a joke!

I simply cannot afford it, even the cheapest plan is too dear, plus you need cash for setup costs, wiring ect. Ihug have been my ISP for ever, I used to brag about my connection speed when my mates were moaning about theirs, Ihug won't even offer me a special deal on broadband, their tech said "perhaps you should consider changing to another ISP then..."

if it was noisy lines or cables then why would it only affect Ihug?, they deny making any changes

Consider the number of exchanges in the country, as well as the number of cabinets etc...

usualy they want you bound to a contract for like 18mths, but the contract dosn't bind them to provide consistant service, Ihug will charge you $1 per hour for dialup if the broadband service is broken..It's not mu fault so why should I pay more just so I can get mediocre service....Cunts!

Well there's the rub. Using your metaphor...

If I sold you my bike on the understand that it COULD do 200kph you'd love it right... but when can you realistically do that speed?

Other cars on the road to slow you down, occasional roadworks...

I don't want to get into a huge discussion on this, but you could vote with your feet, if you don't like broadband, try going back to dialup :zzzz:

Indeed. As much as I like to bag Telecom, the fact is it can often not even be a problem with your exchange => many ISPs don't actually buy enough bandwidth from Telecom to service their own customers properly.

If you're a commercial customer having trouble with Orcon, let me know - I 'might' know the M.D.. Granted, I 'might' think he's a right cock as well.

Under 2Mbs capped acounts, Telecom were running 70 subscribers per bundle. When the cap was raised to 3.5, they increased to 120 subscribers per bundle.

He means those freakin phone support buffoons have an intellect not unlike a monkey, yet have the ability to seemingly converse in understandable English. I'm inclined to agree. I mean if I had a dollar for every phone support guy I've had to call to inform him of a customer's problem, the proceed to explain to him the technical nuances of the issue, then how to fix it (errr just hold on sir, I need to talk to my supervisor...), I'd have...well not as much money as I'd like, but it would still be more than chump change (or is that chimp change?)

did you not know that is true? re congestion on exchange. Telecom runs the DSL network and there is only so much bandwidth from the exchange to the core network. And the total amount of bandwidth for the DSL lines far exceeds what it has linking back to the core.

Anyway... 512kbytes per second? thats fast. 3.5MBit is your connection. And there is around 7~8 bits in one byte~!
