Well, due to the sepperation from the missus and me having the kids most weekends, it was time to get a cage. Also, I needed something to tow the bikes up to Pukekohe next month so might as well get something with some style.

'92 Lexus SC400 V8 should do the trick. Heaps of room for a two door, tons of grunt, good handling for a big marshmallow, lots of cow skin amd fake wood and it screams "PIMP DRIVING!" Perfect for the Trash Man.
Not as thirsty as you'd expect either, thank Christ.

Nice. I heard one the other day after u had told me about it - sounded very throaty. I like the bling bling mags. Have you got the mandatory boot vibrating woofers as well ? Looks like you'll be cruising to Puke in style.

Brooooo...aka the 'Soarer', I'm impressed.

Take the engine to F40 developments next time you're up in Auckland and get Andy to trick it out to 800bhp for ya...

8th June 2004, 19:30
nah, take the engine and put it in a hilux 4x4! then you have a go anywhere sleeper that will put the shits up most boy racers

At least you got the real thing, those boys with the Soarers with the pissy engines just don't cut it.

Those Lexus V8s are gutless shitters,Toyota make a far better V8.The 2.5 twin turbo will leave them for dead - but guess you old farts are not into performance eh?

Nothing quite like a Toyota Soarer is there

I've said somewhere else on a car thread that I think the V8 Soarer is gutless at low speed - but it's linear,it just never stops accelerating....but what use is that in NZ? The inline 6 will just cream it up to atleast 100kph or more, just like a Skyline turbo, maybe even better.I don't see the point in a luxury car that can't get out of it's own way around town.

White trash
9th June 2004, 07:50
Yeah the 2.5 Turbo sucker would've been nice, but that wasn't on offer. The price I paid for this it just couldn't be passed up.

Also, it's no where near as expensive to run as a turbo. It uses about 3/4 the gas OldR's Skyline turbo does at normal cruising speeds.

I wouldn't say its gutless, just not setting the world on fire.

I like it anyways.

And thats all that matters really. Some people just can't resist knocking others.

Performance is what the bike is for.

you're game getting a nice car to put kids in!!!!, We will stick to the hiace 4x4 van until they all leave home, it gets filthy after every rugby game, or trip to the beach, plus they love to fiddle with stuff, the upholstery gets hammered, lovely car WT but I surely wouldn't put my kiddos in it!

Lol. A few have said the same!

No McDonalds, no drinks, no shoes, tie their hands together and it's sorted!

Nah, it's just a car. Leathers pretty easy to keep clean and I just don't feed the in the car. Two girls at 5 and 2 aren't too interested in rugby yet. Trips to the beach are done in my ex wifes car! :D

Don't be too sure, WT.

I coach Upper Hutt Under 6's. We have one girl, aged 5, in our team.

Hey, that's not Steve and Jenny's old car is it?

On the bright side - you can have lots of missusses now !! (if you chose to of course, not that you would....Oh I'll just fuck up) :eyepoke:

My Diamante's in the same league - it's the top of the line model with the works and leather....quad cam 24 valve 200hp V6,uh...where fer krysts sake? even on the open road I have to manualy change down to get the revs up where I need them,I've only red lined this thing once, just to see if it was able too, what a turd!

But earlier this year the wife and I were heading to Dargaville at night - we were talking (for once) at one stage and I glanced at the speedo to see it sitting on 140kph,not the sort of speed I do at night.I could of put another 20kph on it without even thinking it was going fast - this is what these sort of cars were made to do,high speed touring....it's an impressive car alright - just not exciting!!!

Mate, I've got enough of the real stuff, no fake possum hair required. No TV, just a CD stacker full of Kid Rock, StereoGram and Rage Against The Machine to keep the kids quiet. Or maybe they are making noise, I just can't hear them

Lexus are a standalone car company and have nothing to do with Toyota, the car was developed and produced independent of Toyota and has it's own seperate dealer and service network.Lexus dealers are not Toyoata dealers.

Well, that was the blurb when the Lexus came out - now you wouldn't be suggesting that Toyota would lie to the public? no,not possible.Guess they must be totaly different then eh?

The Toyota Chaser, Aristo, Soarer (SC300, SC400), Altezza (IS200), Land Cruiser (LX450/470?) et al are the names used in the Japan domestic market. In other countries they *may* be available under the badge of Lexus - the Lexus brand/badge was orignally solely for US market models. Lexus do not have entirely nothing to do with Toyota - quite the opposite - Many (if not all) of the models have the same chassis, same engines, and differ only in interiors/styling and possibly some panels/skirts/spoilers.

Yeah well their burb was bullshit,Lexus IS200 = Toyota Altezza, same body different trim and engine, both engines made by Toyota, and in Chch Toyota and Lexus even share the same building

It is possible to get good power out of the Lexus/Toyota V8,the same mods as any other motor apply, just aftermarket bits aren't easy to come by.

Nice choice of vehicle WT, looks good. I had a mate who trained as a Lexus mechanic when they were first introduced into NZ - he raved on about how good they were...and pricey!!

Oh No!!! so you guys are saying that Lexus are really Toyotas and Toyota have been lying to the public - shock horror! that's really bad news coming from such a major motor company and I'm staggered they would do such a thing.

Guess I better not buy any Jap cars - I'll get a totaly Australian designed and built one - maybe a Holden Vectra, the Aussies are at least honest eh?

lol you can't be serious Motu!!

The Holden Vectra is an Opel (German)

Last time I was in Aussie the Holden Commodore was also sold as the Toyota Lexcen!

As for Mazda, they are owned by Ford (US)
Nissan is owned by Renault (France)
and Mitsubishi is mostly owned by Chrysler-Benz (US/German)
Plenty of Toyotas are designed and manufactured in America. Toyota and Chevrolet both market the same car (Cavalier) in different markets under their own brand
The Monaro is called a Pontiac GTO in the states (good idea).

And even european manufacturers are known to use Chinese and Korean parts in their vehicles too.

brand loyalty based on where you think a car is made is a pretty dodgy one now :)
