Hey, I've got a quick question, I'm coming down to the 4th round cause I'm still chasing that streetstock title. However, I've recently acquired, thanks to my dad (will be quite a while in paying him back), a 2003 CBR600RR race bike that I plan to race in the future instead of my CBR250RR. My question is, being that I have never ridden a 600 sports bike before (have ridden a TL1000, and a GSR600) I didn't really want to take it in the supersports class first up. So I was wondering if I would be able to take the 600 in Clubmans instead. I have been told that they might not allow it seeing as I'm racing in another class (streetstock) and I have previously raced my 250 in F3. So do you know if I will be allowed to take the 600 in Clubmans so I can just learn to ride it?

i dont think you can. Clubmans is for first year only i think you will find
I think the same question was asked last year about racing 2 classes clubmans and st stock. Pretty sure they said no

Down here clubmans is for anyone as long as they aren't riding the bike they are riding in clubmans in any other class. Apart from that anything goes. It seems to be a fairly fair system too. I thought that most clubs would run a system like that.

VTEC, just race it in F2 and F1, who gives if you're not at the sharp end, the feilds are big enough that im sure you'll find someone to kick it with, there's a good range of riders through out the feild, you'll be sweet, plus you get a ton of track time being in both f1 and 2 and should help the learning curve with people to chase. i doubt you'll do yourself any shame racing it in F2 and 1 mate, after all you're out there and doing it, a lot of people aren't.
Just go for it! Either that or go for a mid week coro loop, park the van in Kopu, good for testing or come to KF's track day at taupo as well.

4th August 2006, 16:03
I would second that. See that means one less person to get beaten by in clubmans too... LOL
Na, Even with my pathetic times, I still wouldn't have been dead last in f2, (and there would be no shame if I was!!) racing is better than no racing. Give f2 a go, but be gentle on the bike!
svs
4th August 2006, 16:16
Just take the 600 out in F2. No-one will mind if you're not at the sharp end. Also look at doing a test day or two before hand. That way you can find your own pace without worrying about anyone else

Yeah it is my first year. The reason why I'm worried about going in F2, is that I just rode it about 15 minutes ago for the first time, and it was completely different from my CBR250, a lot harder to turn it in, and in the long race, I'll end up as lapped traffic, cause I have to know my machine before I start riding it hard. I'm just worried that I may be a hazard in F2 to start with until I learn how to ride this beast.
Can't do a test day before the next meeting as I just started a new job, and I'll have to take the friday off work just to get down there for saturday, if I was to do the test day on the friday I'd need thursday off aswell which I don't really want to do. Ideal situation is to take it in Clubmans with plenty of room, and minimal danger. I suppose I'll just have to ask on the day, as I think they might let me. I'll take it in F2 at my second meeting on it though.
Edit: Well after reading bruce's words for a second time, I'm not sure what I want to do. Bugger it, I'll leave it to the day.
Here's pics.

you will NOT be allowed to change stuff on the day. go back to the first post. get your entry sorted before hand.
If you are entering other classes, then you can't enter clubmans. We want to help people get on the track, but we can't change things just for one person.
If you want to concentrate on the 600, then switch to clubmans - but you won't be able to ride in superstock and F3 as well. If you ride in F2 then you'll have a practice and a 6 lap race. If you feel out your depth in the long race, then just pull in.

Just do it man... don't worry about the being at the back (we all know you won't be there for long:yes: )....
anyway do you remember the buzz that you got from the first race on the 250. this will be a whole lot better...
Catch you in a few weeks

ah dont worry about it man its all good.
if people are in the front they have to get used to lapped traffic. nature of the beast. just concentrate on your own thing.
just dont do what some people do when they start and try to move out of the way of people trying to pass you. just hold your line.

A piston and ring kit is on the way and I'm getting a rebore done soon. Still got the urge to go road riding with friends on it, but I need my racing fix, and my confidence around corners is back so I might actually be able to compete with you guys (was rather soul crushing having you guys fly ahead). And racing strangely enough is cheaper than riding on the road, and if I want to get my next bike I'll save up more money if I choose to race

Hey i may have some bad news about your piston kit.
your bore is a nikasil bore so its not as easy to remove 1mm of metal for the oversize pistion. You will have to have your bore re-plated which costs about $400.
Check at you bike shop.
Anyways, your bike did not seem to bad on power when we raced against eachother in featherston...

The piston is only meant to be 0.5mm bigger though (I think). Will I get lucky?
And that's cause you were on a KR. I rode Zorst's RG and it was like lightning, it's what convinced me to deal with the RG stat. And the bike is very due for a piston and ring anyway, and I was convinced by K14 to forget about regular sized postons and just drill the suckah so I don't deal with low compression and realise I needed the oversize piston anyway.
The main problem is those powervalves, think the clip is loose again

But even .5mm over size wont fit without a bore and re-plate!!
thats a real bugger. IF your bore wasn't plated it would be sweet, but alas its a plated bore.

That was probably a fairly key aspect you failed to mention. You can't rebore nikasil plated barrels. You are stuck with the original bore. Its the same story with the rs, nikasil plated bore, just keep throwing new pistons in there without doing anything to the bore.

We'll I'll take the barrel into the rebore dude SVS told me about, see what my options are. Otherwise I think I'll just save for the coating, it'll be only a bit more expensive than getting an original piston and ring (which Wellington Motorcycles quoted $300, plus freight from Asialand)
And your KR felt faster than my bike. It was torquier and it actually pulled away at high revs. Maybe my perfectionism lets me notice the very small differences

Your KR should what be too

you should be able to put a cast bore in not should you are able to press one in its just for the rules it weighs more than nickasel an but might be cheaper

The problem is I bought an oversize piston
A rebore is going to be only a bit more expensive than trying to get an original sized piston right? I remember TS saying they were 300 for the kit, plus shipping. I've already sepnt 150 on the oversize kit
I was really hoping I would have enough money for that remote control car...

Yeah the rebore will probably cost about $70 or so, getting the barrel re nikasiled needs to be done overseas (auzzie, usa or britain). Now that is going to cost you about $600 or so (I assume it would cost the same as an rs barrel). So yeah going to be alot cheaper....
Have you actually even bothered to ring up the local suzuki dealer and see how much a piston kit is? Also have you actually taken your bike apart yet and confirmed that it does infact have a nikasil bore? Ring up the suzuki dealer and ask them, they should know for sure.

And also Alarumba dont hone nickasel bores
Sketchy_Racer
16th August 2006, 14:02

Is that another one of your projects?
you do hone a nicasil bore when you replace the piston...... so the new rings seat in well. you DONT bore out a nicksil bore without recoating.

no you don't. man there's some bs info floating around here. go and watch any rs rider change a piston. take the barrel off, put the new piston on and put the barrel back on. any mention of a hone there? the nikasil is too hard to be honed and isn't necessary.

That would bewhy but Im just saying you cant hone nicasel its just something you dont do you pull top end down sticknew piston in and thats it no honing you dont want to damage the coating cause once thats F#$%D the barrels had it you can get it replated but the next job isnever as good so Alarumba you can bore it .05 oversize

It's great how you're talking down to me. I'm only going by what little I understand and I'm asking questions so I can learn more. I was under the impression if an oversize piston was readily available then a rebore shouldn't be a problem, I was unaware that it had the coating and would very likely never need an oversize piston. Also I hadn't bothered to ring suzuki as I had read on here that kits cost 300 bucks, then I was told by RG the other day that they're rare and and I might have to go second hand. And I haven't taken the bike apart since I havent wanted to pull it apart then have time to forget where parts go since the kit isn't bloody here yet

You’re on the other side of the bloody hills. It’s a strong northwest wind which generally brings unsettled weather to this side of the ranges. Then include the orographic effect and the wind funnel that the gorge creates. Too busy dreaming about bikes while at school ? :scooter:
Anyway the outlook is looking abit better, but bring your warm gear, and your wets. the rain should hold off until night fall...

Magical mint day.
The rain threatened, but the last few races only had a few rain drops.
All in all, flippen good performance from all the KB guys I saw!!
Good stuff to Bruce and Darryl, for letting the newer generation get some muppetry practice in!!
Big ups to nicko for having his spare parts bin with him!!
Anthony was fair flying, the zx9 goes out on a good note!
Thanks to Mikey for crashing out after me!! Made my day! LOL
CONGRATS to ARIA!! a well deserved 2ND placing in the long race!!
So, to the races!!
An early start saw us at manfeild just before 7. The things we do to ensure we have pit space!!
I had to change front brake pads having shagged them in the practice day on Friday, so that gave me something to do, while my darling wife went and purchased high quality McShitalds for breakky.
Qualifying rolled around, and, because I have some nice shiney new tyre warmers, I didn't see any point in holding back too much, so I rolled out a quite respectable 1:20, (while still not giving it 100%, got to keep the mind games going with the opposition!!)
Was fairly confident of a first row start in qualifying, but you can only imagine my shock, (and big headed pride) when I saw the grid position sticker, that placed me first!
Happily waited for the 6 lapper to come up, rolled out (after ditching tyrewarmers! man they are easy to forget about!!)
There was a delay and restart in the post classic etc class, so I returned to the pits, and tyrewarmers back on.
Rolled out nearly last, did the warmup lap, and enjoyed the feeling of meandering through the grid, as everyone settled into place, and going straight to the front! Hahaha!! I'm so mean!!
Got my usual terrible start, and ended up 4th through the first corner.
Wasn't too bothered about that, cause I figured I could probably reel them back in.
Reeled them back in I did!! Took a few laps, but passed the ducati, passed the Mikey, enjoyed the view, and then saw the sky, then the ground, and ended up making mud angels.
Just a horrible pity I posted the fastest lap in both clubmans races!!
So crashing out sucks, but it is way better when you do it from the front!!
Being in front brings it's own raft of problems, you have no idea where everyone else is, and when and if they are going to make a move. Keep's you on you're toes!!
So I'm whipping back around on the trailer, waving to the adoring masses, when I see this black GSXR being pushed up the straight!! Mikey, after happily taking the first spot I vacated, has vacated it himself, in quite spectacular fashion!! I was in the esses, he was on the last turn onto the front straight.
Aria did team KB proud, and actually finished that race!! well done that woman!!
So yeah, posted a 1:18.46 or so, and the crash cost me a bit of pride, the nice shiney new look of my two day old quasi leathers, an alternator cover and a gear lever. Thanks Poos for the loan of your one!!
Thankfully Nicko had one, and after a quick rebuild, we were back into it.
The next race was still a while off, as each race was about a 30 minute affair.
So, onto the start grid again, after a quick consult with Master Poos (some good tips on body position and lines, cheers bro!!)
Start was still bad, Aria gapped me out, and I was into turn one 4th. Starts are a real weak point!!
Slowly brought it back to bear, caught Aria, then got a 900ss, but Mike Fee was up front, and was rapidly getting a whole straight ahead of me.
By now we were well into the backmarkers, which is all good, no disrespect intended to anyone else, being racing is good, regardless of where you come!!
Mike got stuck in some traffic, so I caught him up, and then he appeared to slow, so I nipped around the outside. By now I was noticing that my left footpeg was real slippery, so I was hardly able to move around on the bike.
Did my best to hang on to first, and crossed the line with no real dramas, closely followed by Miss ARIA!!! GO GIRL!!!
Back to the pits, and complaining to everyone about the little bit of oil on my gear lever, when I look down, and my left boot is polished!! Never turn down a free polish, but my brain clicked over to what my Dad had been trying to say, the gasket on the alternator cover was obviously damaged in the hasty reassembly, and had been spraying oil all over my boot, and the peg!!
It wasn't much, but enough to scare me when I realised!
So one DNF, one win, and a personal measured best, plus a huge speed increase from last time!
I enjoyed racing with yall, the only decision is, should I move to F2, or burglar clubmans until I get blatantly too fast (the cut off on mafeild is 1:18)
I've a month to think, so I'll let you know!!
