Coming over Nui Hill last night..on the Hutt side going up...it was a bit wet.
Gave it to much gas coming into a sweeping lefthander, my back wheel must have been crosssing the Cateyes at the time.
Did'nt have a chance, bike just flopped down on the left side.....last thing I remember was the bike suddenly drpping straight down on its left side...then it sliding away from me followed by Concrete, Sky, Concrete Sky with a long skid on my back at the end....
The bike itself was ok, the rear fairing was wasted, the crash bung on the left was pretty worn down, did its job though, fairing at front ok. Some big scratches on the oil casing??
Yep it was my own fault...no excuses there.......my poor bike....sniff sniff
Insurance is going to get it looked at.
I am fine, thank God for my leather suit with the armour....my ribs are bruised on right side, my left shoulder bruised and my left knee has a mean gash in it despite the armour!!! My left knee on the leather is completely worn through to armour....damn......
So yeah no more riding for me for a little while....:bye:

Bad luck mate. That's an awkward piece of road wether you're in a car or on a bike.
Glad to hear that the gear kept you intact and that the Kwaks relatively ok. Take it that you've got insurance?

Bad luck but easy to do.
If you're considering funding the repairs yourself I happen to have some Left side bits coming available soon. Mostly with superficial only damage but hey the cage driver who shunted me from behind is paying for new ones. Give me a PM if interested.

Bummer dude, hope all gets fix'd soon. Good lesons there 4 u thou: power +wet road= potential slip. Riding on center line ( cats eyes?) = very unwise anytime, riding over catseyes/painted lines at a lean + wet+ power= well, I guess you know these now! Hope others can learn from your mistake and stay safer on wet roads. Had a car (or 44t b train )been comming the other way would = death.

Sheesh at first when i saw your thread title i guessed you looped it or summat stunting, with all our talk about 1st gear wheelies and all...i'm glad you didn't. But bummer about your bin dude, you lost a little skin and came out of it alright, there'll be some bills to pay and patience practised waiting for the body to heal and repairs on the Kwaka to be finished, been there done that and don't wanna do it again.

nah mate it would've been straight into a nice metal medain barrier, lucky the bike and you didn't decide to collect that. Good bit of road the nui. always some crazy clown willing to give you a go over there, love cresting the top going over to the nui with the front wheel lifting hard on the pwer in 3rd at 170kph+, it's got a good surface and has mega grip in the wet, but yea gotta watch those cat eyes, they dont do shit in the dry, but in the wet, well yea.
Also a good hil;l to kill tyres quikly if ya commuting it everyday.
Hope youre back on it soon enough mate

Hey mate,
Sorry to hear about the crash pretty sad. But glad you're ok and I hope the insurance fixes it so you can get back on quick. Just a few things.
I can see the big gash on the knee and on your leathers the top bit of the knee armour is damaged. Am i right to assume that your leathers were a bit big and the knee protector was hanging down than staying on the knee?
Also what speed were you riding at when you came off ? Any idea? When you slid down on your back was the armour enough? Or back damaged as well?
Did the crush knobs stay put? Any pics of the bike by any chance. Again good luck with your recovery mate.

Its a nice peice of road that. LB is right that its nicely guarded by armco+ all the way up. Strangely the speed Im comfortable at going down the Hutt side is equal to the speed on the way up. Maybe due to the uphill having NO CAMBER AT ALL. Nice and grippy though.

The leathers neva felt to big, but you are right. Can't see how i got this gash if the armour was there. I can only assume it twisted to the right with the impact and left my knee exposed.
Speed? honestly don't know, was I speeding?....yes....how fast...not even going to guess as I might shoot myself in the foot if a :Police: were to read this. I don't tend to concentrate on speedo when I am mid corner / lean...just working out my lines and concentrating.....especially on the Nui hill where the camber is completely wrong!!!
When I slide it just wore down the leather on the back of jacket....
Crash knobs stayed put, had a look at it and it was there, just really really worn down.....

Hey matey,
Thanx for the response, reason why I asked was I've spent about $2000 on nice new top of the line Alpinestars gear and a $700 carbon fibre light weight helmet about 8 months ago and Iam still paranoid and think and feel it's not enough protection. I do wear all gear every time I go out riding. Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, Pants and Boots.
Recently I've been thinking about getting a new bike (600) plus new gear as well, preferably one or two piece Alpinestars leathers. Reason again more protection as I am really paranoid of coming off.
In either case ever wonder how guys in MotoGP and SuperBikes come off at high speeds and walk off without a bruise most of the times? Well so I've been told that the leathers have to be really tight fitting so they don't move when you come off like yours presumably did.
Problems with that, again, if you're primarily commuting and on weekend rides it's just too much and too uncomfortable. Any one with solutions to this or can throw more light to it please?
And yes I wouldn't mention the exact speed in case someone in authority or the insurance guys read this :)
Good luck again and don't let that crash dampen your riding spirits, true bikers will get back on and learn from their mistakes no matter how much experience you have on your shoulders :)

Hey matey,
............ a $700 carbon fibre light weight helmet about 8 months ago and Iam still paranoid and think and feel it's not enough protection. ....................
Any helmet you buy in New Zealand will offer Australian standard compliant protection as a minimum. This is assuming the fit is good. As you get further up the price ranges you will get huge benefits in weight, aerodynamics and noise - for $700 you should be fairly safe although a lot of experienced guys won't look at anything under $1,100.

I wear Cordura for commuting and a 2 piece A* Leathers for weekend stuff. Have experienced crashes in both. :nono:
When commuting you're generally travelling at slower speeds and are more cautious as you're in traffic. And also you tend to ride in most weather (rain and shine). Hence, IMHO I reckon Cordura is fine.
Weekend stuff is faster and often on Open roads where the road surface can be fiercely coarse. Leather is more abrasion resistant, hence I use leathers.
The key is to ensure that the armour fits firmly over the knees and elbows and cannot move. But not so tight it cuts off the circulation. While most people will get a good fit from an off the shelf suit, some may need a custom cut suit to fit their body shape.
My suit fits quite tightly around the arms/elbows but on a high speed low-side at the track there was still enough movement on the edge of the armour which broke the skin on my elbow. But then again I slid long and hard enough to wear a hole through the leather.
that's my $0.02

Haha considering i've been in auckland for the last few years proberly not, but i always make an effort for a squirt up the nui when i'm back home for a few days catching up with the boyz oh and family, and then carry on down for a blast on coast rd
Coming back towards the hutt on the nui side is great for embarrasing boy racers on the back wheel of the Gix and that first left as you crest the hill by the lookout is crazy fast if you get it right (get it wrong and well......... lets not go there)

An interesting thought. But why only up to the nipples? Are you lactating hate, so it all leaks out your nipples and can rise no further? Does the hate not make a mess on your shirt? If you plugged your nipples, would the hate accumulate and cause you to explode? Or just give you a pair of honking man titties? All manner of fascinating conjectures and visions come to mind.
