In short, a butcher's helper mixed an illegally high dose of Sodium Nitrate in with the meatball mix and a man nearly died from eating them. Reason for the mistake? Thought that the preservative (labeled 'Poison')was flavouring and didn't know what 'Poison' meant.

Am I naive to think that the language tests to get into the country would include important words like 'Poison'?

Just as long as they can read "Labour" on a voting paper, they will get in! :blip: That's the minimum requirement today.

Or to think that one shouldn't put bags maked 'Poison' beside bags of flavouring? :weird: :slap:

""A bag of nitrite powder labelled 'poison' was kept alongside the bag of flavouring powder," the man's doctors and a public health officer, Dr Greg Simmons, said in the journal."

The shop owner, who was prosecuted, claimed he was innocent because "he didn't do it"....
However allowing a situation to arise on his business premises (hiring NESB staff using these components which are labelled in English) negates his argument. Surely?

Who the hell buys ready-made meatballs anyway? Any moron can make meatballs themselves.
