View Full Version : Wairarapa: 1/4 mile Sprints. Anyone heard an update?
Don't get excited if you thought this post meant it was on again this year - I don't know. The organisers are always slack at updating their website (www.cdd.co.nz). That's why I thought I would kick of a post to see if anyone has heard if it's on again soon - and get some interest started.
They usually run it on the last Sunday of September and November. So that's not far away for those keen to let rip. Jetski might be a better option at the mo.
Had a looksie through the last 2 years results to see what I'm up against in the 600 class. Cunning plan is to send Jimbo lots of free vouchers for pints and pies over the next month. He holds the 600 prize at 5.79secs flying & 10.71 s/s.
In the thou class Tony S has always cleaned up with his modified bikes. The rest of us have done well on our more stock bikes though. Best 'stock' 1000s times were;
Standing start ;Hayden GSXR at 10.04 secs, followed by MD cbr1000rr at 10.08, Deano cbr1000rr 10.31
Tony S. owns the flying times of course but after that it's my 5.13sec on the cbr1000 (I'm talking 1000s only here). The only faster times from any size were Two ZX12Rs that put in 5.02 and 5.03 last year.
It's lots of fun for entrants and spectators so lets hope more peeps give it a go this year. Once I find out a firm date I'll update this for those interested.
Now where did I put those pie vouchers?
Edit- and we need more 636s please. Because it is cheating to compare 600s straightline performances when one has a 6% capacity advantage

I flicked the organisers an e-mail last week but have heard nothing back.
Website hasn't been updated since Feb - no results from the hillclimb in March yet either.

Don't worry about the pies mate. The last Sunday in Sept is the day I fly to Germany for a Month. And come November I'll be a bloater because of the Month in Germany. Too much Bratwurst and Varsteiner.

I'll be doing the standing quaters this year.
Looking forward to some competition....
Here's hoping it's a goer!

You lucky lucky bastard. Germany, where all the sheilas are busty and always have a stein in each hand at the ready. That's going to save me heaps on pies then. Make sure you enjoy yourself now and sink as much beer and grub as you can by Nov., so I still have a chance. Seriously mate you put down a stunner time on your 600. Right on the heels of the bigger bikes. I must give the hillclimb a go next year as well.

I will be speaking to Tony S sometime during the week. I will see if he has any idea.

Hillclimb is great fun. You'd be a proper contender too. Gotta knock Deano's 1000 of the top mantle and replace with a 600, well a 600ish in your case.
And as for Germany. Well last time I was there I flirted with celebrities. Might check out the GP in Estoril while I'm in Europe if I have time.

Lets pop this back to the front page. I had a chat with Tony S Today and he said it was still on for late Sept but they might try some road near Carterton (or Greytown?) for a change. So they can get more spectators. Tony is going to remind the organisers to update the web page for us.

I'll be there again...I'll try not to break the bike this year.
I was pretty pleased with my flying quarter result last year, 211.45kph on the Honda CBR 450 tripple.
