hi this is going to sound dumb but!!
i was wondering if on the next thursday night ride or kb ride if someone older and or wiser would be willing to teach me some sense and saftey tips!
i was a cocky rider who thought he new it all until saturday in the rain i pulled out into a road from a driveway and my arse stepped out so far i could see my tail light! i went home and changed my boxers lol!
anyway point of the story i dont want to die off somthing stupid that some older fulla could just tell me!!
i would appreciate any tips or secrets right down to bike maintanence and someone to ride with
cheers for the time you took to read this:rockon:

Look up 'Mentors' under the members list in the Senior members section and PM a mentor.
Alternatively I've booked myself onto the BRONZ RRRS course 20th August. Look up Ride Right Ride Safe in forums.
All useful.

Absobloddylutely!!!
The Kendogs have managed to get in one mentor session this winter and are looking forward to more when the weather becomes a bit better. It is sooooooo very worth it, the knowledge of some of the people on this site is outstanding!! Go for it mate.

As Paul says you've made the first step to wisdom - now you know what a slide under power or from cornering on a slippery surface feels like. Now you just have to master throttle control so that you feel in control and not out of control so that you know just how much throttle to use and that you have to button off instantly you feel the slide.
Practising sliding on a dirt bike on a slippery surface is a good way to learn this skill.

I second that. This isn't a cost, it's an investment.

Hey Race Me!!!!
There are a lot of experienced riders on the Thursday night ride who would be happy to spend some time with you. Off the top of my head the more experienced and level headed ones (most of the time) would be QkChk or Blackbuell.
Maybe send one of them a PM...

Easy to do, where I live we get a little ice build up just down from my driveway on a bit of a rise. With Supercorsa pro's it would step out really easy when I took off. Got to the point where 2nd gear was needed and a deft touch on the throttle. I now got some Pilot powers and cold grip is a hell of a lot better.
Im not professing to know it all, or even much for that matter ;)
My driveway is fine gravel so I always give it a bit of throttle to get used to the feeling of a slide and the power delivery and touch required to save it.
Perhaps you could do the same, just be careful not to drop it (and not on my driveway).
Good on ya for speaking up :)

For all of you being dickheads - stop it now. When someone genuinely asks for help, smartarse replies are not helpful.
The list of mentors is located here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showgroups.php?) (under the list of moderators) for those who wish to develop their motorcycling skills with an experienced rider.

:o Such kind words Keystone!:o Never realised I was level headed. (maybe thats why the drool runs out both sides of me mouth..)
RACE ME!! There are quite a few experienced riders on the ATNR (Auck thur night ride) SEE HERE FOR MORE DETAILS (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=33348)and youre very welcome to come along and have a chat to us and if your extra nice;) I can ride with you and give a bit of coaching if need be. I find the ATNR is a good place to talk turkey & :bs: with other riders and to improve you skills. If you can ride well at night (and in the wet @ night) you can ride well in general. (Except on black ice, sorry we dont have the facilities to train on this:shit:) Look forward to seeing you on a future ride.

Lots of different conditions up here re surfaces and hazards for you to learn.
Bonus is that there's some mean arsed scenery too!

Its not a rule in such but I would advise you do change it for your own safety. There is nothing more harder than looking through a tint visor with an oncoming car and fog on the outside of your visor while goin around a corner.... it aint much fun!

Good on you Race Me!!!!! for going out on the Thursday night ride. I don't yet have the guts for that coz I'd probably:
a/ get left behind.
b/ hold up the other riders.
c/ bin my bike trying to keep up and riding beyond my ability.
d/ All or an assortment of the above.
Best of luck and once again fair play to you for having a go - you are a braver man than me.:2thumbsup

I have not lost a newbie yet on the ride due to being 'left behind' or by them 'binning it' (even tho I cant say the same for the bigger bikes:nya:). I have quite a few riders on 250's, so you would not 'be out of place'. All I can say is "Come along and try it, if youre not happy you can leave at your own leisure".
I do cater for slower riders (as long as you don't crawl along at 60kph in a 100kph zone or anything stupidly slow like that...) I have a system that allows for the slower riders and so they dont get lost. Just ask any of the following riders: Pheniox, Johnny Rotten, MarkAuckland, Swanny, Buddy L, GTAe these guys are/have ridden 250's on the ride. If you would like to know anything else (no matter how small or silly) just PM me.

I'll be along soon enough, once you hear how bad my jokes are you'll wish I wasn't there!
I've just re-sprayed the fuel tank on the VTR and am waiting a few days for it to dry (last time I went out too soon and left some big knee dents in the lacquer...doh!)
Have a great time - really sounds like you'll be in safe hands.
