Left Auck for the Brass Monkey with two mates. At 8.30 pm just before Bulls, mate in front pulls over so I follow and pull over too, out the corner of my eye all of a sudden there is a patrol car all lights going. I thought oh my mates got copped speeding, the cop asked to see all our licences and next the bastard gives us all a ticket for doing 116kph.
What I want to know is how the hell in the pitch black of night down there does he know that the three of us were doing the same speed, or how does he id which bike it is that was speeding . Come on guys and gals is this a fair cop or can I fight it $120 and 20 demerits first speeding ticket in 10 years

What absolute toss. Fight it. Honestly, how bad is it going to get. Why not give every motorist in NZ a infringement notice in one go cos we all must have sped at some stage.

Defend it. I assume it was a Stalker radar ticket, ask how he identified which bike gave the reading.
Goddamn money hungry bastard.

Sorry but Spudchucker is on another call right now, but he will be with you very soon :mobile:

What pisses me off the most is that you were done for that misrble amout over the limit, but just up the rd you will pass some a/h doing warp 9 in a un road worthy car
As my boss told me the other day his father was drinking with the local copper (wanaka) and was told that if his quota wasent in by the end of the day then he is to go back out after tea.

I have come to the conclusion that if I get nicked again then its just a fee that I have to pay for the injoyment of using the rd's and as far as fighting it... na your :buggerd: they wont give a shit about the sercomstances.
Thers only one um.

On principle I'd say make them work for it. Trouble is it really would be a waste of time and probably end up costing more money. If enough people did fight it or at least give them the run around before fessing up it might make the cops think before issuing these sorts of tickets.

That's what they're relying on.

I got done for going thru an orange light. It turned orange on me going thru and the bastards still fined me. Anyway I said not guilty and took it to court. Make them work for it I say. It ended up the Judge didn't know who to believe so he fined me half the fine and half the court costs. Could of been worse. Still money hungry mongrels! It's a matter of principle. Even if you still end up paying, make them work for it!

Ok for those interested, Im simple kiwi living out in
Jackrats area, I send a reply as per my original description of my version of getting caught speeding . Got reply today, cop who wrote ticket says that we were all travelling as a group therefore the ticket stands. I will figure out how to get ticket, reply, and answer scaned and post on Kiwibiker for you to consider next step. I should be able toafford the next step just hope I have the stamina. Cmon people just be cause we travel in groups we are all guilty. Sorry MikeL never was good at punctuation.

I came across an article some time ago on this very issue. It is not illegal to ride in a group and from what you have said the officer has made an assumption. As I understand the law the officer needs evidence that all three bikes were speeding. Considering the time frame (I do not know how long it takes to record three indavidual speeds with these devices.) I would think that two bikes have not been recorded. I think a trip to your local Free Legal Advice might be worth the time. A letter to the Police Minister asking for the type of device use to record your speed and a copy of operating instructions might be useful. What you need to know is the time it takes to record the speed of three 'vehicles.'

I suspect like other posters that the officer is taking a short cut to get convictions. Good luck.

In your letter, make sure you ask them which bike was in the lead. Odds are that the cop won't know, but you will, won't you? So will your mates. Nudge nudge.
