" Kiwi motorsport fans could get the announcement they have been waiting for on Friday.
Taupo looks set to hold an A1 Grand Prix event in January next year.
Motorsport journalist Sandy Myhre says weeks of discussions could come to a happy conclusion this week when A1's David Clare visits.
Myhre says the chief operating officer is coming to New Zealand to meet and it could end up with the race being confirmed.
A clash with the national motor racing series round in Timaru was causing difficulties, but it appears common sense is about to prevail."
Must be good for racing in general

Thats good news for sure, but those cars round a tight track like taupo, passing is going to be limited and i for see a fair bit of carnage.

Davide Tardozzi on a Bimota leading the world championships going into the last race and falling off on the warm up lap! Flying Fred Merkel, in the pits wearing a Big Kahuna Fred Flintstone tee shirt! On the way out after the races, sneaking out onto the track and hooning around for a few laps before getting chased off!
Wandering through the pit garages late at night and chatting with Darryl Beattie, as his mechanics rebuilt his RC30! Fondling HRC gear cams, mmmm!
Finding a racers programme in a pit garage, with all the Superbike racers autographs, so added my siggy as well :innocent: !

I have checked the roster, and the reason I can't get the time off is because of some young whipper-snapper who has already booked that whole period for "Nationals at Ruapuna".
