View Full Version : Hit and run

phoenixgtr

Yesterday morning I got knocked off my bike by some prick who just cut across my lane without warning. My bike's a bit broken (broken fairings, mirror, exhaust shield), not too serious. My legs a bit banged up too, cause I was stupid and didn't let go of my bike as it slid down the road. Nothing too serious.

The worst part of the whole thing was that the guy took off!! By the time a couple of witnesses managed to get my bike off me, the car that hit me was halfway down the road. Lukily one of the witnesses got the number plate and I've reported the whole thing with the police. The trouble is, it's a stolen car. That'll be why the bastard didn't stop.

So, if anyone in the Wellington region sees a white Mitsubishi Legnum Station Wagon, rego CLA722, let me know!!

Argh, that sucks mate. Good to hear you came out the other end of the accident though. Dont worry about the bike too much...in the end its only a bike.

What a bastard.
Hit and runners are so low.

Bugger mate!
That low life will get what he deserves, somehow or another...
Get your ride fixed and back on the road as soon as you can.

Yeah, I just hope they find the guy, but the chances are pretty slim

Good to hear your in one piece tho

All the best for a quick recovery, glad you have insurance, hopefully they will pull finger and get you up and running without too many delays! :scooter:

Sorry to hear mate. Hope you make a quick recovery. Will keep an eye out for the car in question. Where'd this happen?

phoenixgtr
8th August 2006, 09:39
It happened on Adelaide road, near the basin. I think I picked the wrong car to get hit by!!

Turn that on it's head mate - keep in mind he chose the swrong guy to run over.

Hunt him down and make sure he gets everything coming to him (legal like of course...)

Hit and run, assualt with a vehicle ... whatever it eligible. Nail the bastard to the wall. Maybe talk to the car owner (who also had a loss - they now have a damaged car) and join forces where possible.

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon

Now's your perfect chance to design your own FXR fairing, put in a ram-air system on it, and a fan at the front that looks and sounds like a jet turbine.
Sorry to hear about the crash, my fxr's been in my garage for over 3 months GRRRR!!! It sucks aye.

Yep, my partner works in the courts so shes alreaddy stirring the cops up through her connections, which could help. Good point about the owners of the car. It was actually stolen from a dealership, which means they may have more power than the average joe, when it comes to finding the guy. It's been stolen for 2 weeks apparently. The guy was pretty keen to still be driving it round. It's only a matter of time. Now it's got damage on it, it should be easier to spot.

True - but I expect it'll be a charred shell in a remote gully before long (sorry - but hell.. if I was going to cover my tracks...)

Did you get a semi decent description of the driver?

Gender, Age, Race, distinguishing features?

Don't give up though. Keep at it - one day you'll get some satisfaction out of it.

phoenixgtr
8th August 2006, 10:09
Yes, thats actually what my work mates said. Sometimes cars suddenly get "stolen" after they've been involved in something like this, but it has actually been missing for 2 weeks

So where's the damage on the car? Noticeable? Take it it's the rear... which side?

A lesson for all those that ride around without insurance maybe?

Take care and best of luck with the repairs.

Man the cunts deserve to have their heads ripped off especially considering they stole the car in the first place.

At least you didn't look too bad today, hope that leg gets better man.

Hope your insurance sorts out your bike quickly as well.

From the type I bike I am guessing a younger rider hence the excess is likely to exceed the cost of repairing the bike from a minor slide, insurance is of no gain in this case.

Wasp
8th August 2006, 16:56
My excess is $500 Saslex, better than what the main companies offered ($1,500)

Drum, rg100 is the perfect example of the "if you ride without insurance...." murphy's law lesson

Glad to hear that you got to walk away from it all. Still its a shitty thing to happen, I know! I had a woman fail to stop at the scene when she took me out years ago. In court she explained that her reason for not stopping is that she thought she had killed me! She didnt want to "deal" with the body by herself and went & got her partner. Arrived back at the scene as they were loading me into the ambo and was duly charged.
Will keep a look out for it since Im working in the area, but as its already been said its probably toasted by now.

Ouch - at least you're able to post this and talk about it. Hope the insurance comes through quickly and some info comes your way about the miscreants. Paybacks always a bitch and they've got it coming with interest.

Soooo ... you going to replace your bike or get a different model?

Not as young as you might think. My excess is only $300, which will be barely more than the cost of the helmet.

Did you get a semi decent description of the driver?

Didn't even see the guy sadly

Cheers to everyone for the sympathy :niceone:

Awful.

If the the person who stole it is stupid to have not converted it by now, they are stupid enough to get caught.

phoenixgtr

Arghh!!!!

I can't handle this. I haven't so much as thrown my leg over a bike in 3 days. Thats the longest I've gone since I got my bike a year ago. Still not sure of the fate of her. Last I heard, they were waiting on prices for parts.

The sad thing is, my legs well enough to ride, I just don't have my bike, or a helmet , for that matter

Bike is probably a write off.

The biggest issue is they don't make the fairing parts anymore. It's still up to State yet, but Welly MC's reckon the dream is over.

On a brighter note, the police have caught the bastard that hit me!!
He's only been arrested on the car theft charge so far. They just need to prove he was driving the car at the time he hit me.

So, a bit of good and a bit of bad

I'm getting the helmet on my bike insurance and my gear held up really well, the only thing that was stuffed was my wet weather pants. At $70 they're not worth claiming

A real bummer Phoenix about the "off" - what a wanker the Guy is. I wonder how many stolen cars are out there just circulating - bloody thousands I reckon, and the theives driving them don't give a shit about how they thrash them or what they hit, Tossers. Good to hear you're on the mend and that they got the Lowlife. Stick up for y'self with the Insurance Co, and dress it up with the Victim Report, - stress the vulnerability of 2 wheels and getting side swiped etc - hopefully that will reflect in his sentence. "What goes round come round - it would just be more fun if we could watch the last bit"

My bike was written off but I bought it back and am fixing it. It was only written off because of fairing damage. It's totally rideable and runs perfectly well.

I've got a new helmet. Yay!! Not that State helped with that. Initially they said they'd pay for it and now they won't. I'm not letting that slide, but for now, it's ok.
