View Full Version : Middle of nowhere - $235.

25km out of Kihikihi towards Mangakino - stationary radar.
Middle of nowhere and I opened it up a bit and the blue and reds went off.
Not bitchin' - just warning - not many safe places left any more.

yeah - if it had of been a km earlier I was gooooone.
Saw her early enough to wash off enough to be an inconveniece rather than a disaster.

I'm sure you would have been alerted by a near forest of white crosses on the side of the road, I'm "sure" that busy, busy road must be a real black spot eh.
I would of felt like telling him that it would be less wear and tear on his patrol car and the tax payers wallets if he just used the toilets at HQ if he just wanted a quiet little spot for a tug.:tugger:

Hooboy! You the MAN! That's telling them, shee-it you go HARD man, hell I'd be quaking in my boots if you said that to me.
(From pissing myself at yet another mouthy roadside dick:rofl: )
But bad luck Dave - and a more mature attitude than some.:niceone:

Unlike the guy today - started at 116 as he came towards me, lost NO speed at all and ended up being clocked at 122 - and I was in plain view driving towards him on a bright sunny day.

How did the ticket end up at $235 Dave?
Speed penalty steps up $80-$120-$170-$230.....where did the extra $5 come from?
Not producing licence is $55 so it too does not add up.

Probably naive enough to think he wasn't at risk of an accident.
Little did He know. The faster you go the bigger the fine.

Feeling like saying somthing, and actually saying somthing are two different things sport.
The last thing I would expect a cop to feel with me saying that would be intimidation. The 1st thing I'd expect would be the old "routine vehicle inspection" and a considerbly lighter wallet as a result of my big mouth.
The last time I got pulled over in the middle of no where, I was polite, courtious and honest, the result was no ticket.
I'm saving all my furture speeding for the South Island where all the cops are at home drinking beer and cruising KB :nya:

More a "duh, never realised" situation.
Most people drop to BELOW the speed limit on seeing a cop-car, I have a theory this is caused by the radar extracting horsepower from the approaching vehicles engine.:wait:

Actually - It was a reasonably attractive young lady. (those pants don't do them any favours)
Ahhhh - I got no real complaints, understood the risk - like I said - could have been a lot worse.
I think we just have to face it that if we want to keep riding then we have to slow down a bit. I'm half way through writing a new feature on the merits of naked bikes.

Yeah? Mine does that too, but only when I'm being naughty. Does the radar know that as well?

I stand corrected - it was $230 - came home - wrote the cheque - posted it that night - moved on.

LOL - that gave me an idea (albeit a little insensitive)
Get a bunch of crosses made up, each with a wallet attached to it. Everyone getting a ticket goes and sticks a crucified wallet at the spot in question.
It'd err.... highlight the location of the tickets (purely for the purpose of determining the correlation with the location of fatalities of course...)

The 35 would be the demerits?
My last "middle of nowhere" was 117k - and a lecture about how dangerous that speed was on a motorcycle from a 25 yo trail bike riding officer!
I was quiet, polite, my normal helpful self.....still, could have been worse a half mile earlier>

I agree but the merits of a naked bike, that'll be interesting ? that's what I thought buying a naked bike "it would keep my speed down" like a Tui add "yeah right"

Compared to my Trophy - it's much more 'rewarding', 'immersive' and more exhilarating to do 110kph on the Xb12x or Thunderbird than 140 was tucked in behind the tupperware.
And just personally, I also advocate an open face helmet as a legal means of slowing myself down. I know it's more dangerous so I don't ride as fast with my beautiful Davida Jet on either. 95kph is actually plenty with yer hooter in it for long. Fast or testing stuff I always wear the X-Spirit.

...
If y'want "exhilarating " try doing 110kph on a Beeza Bantam. Dunno about "rewarding", I guess just surviving was its own reward.

But i must say i have grown up and keep my speed down now.

Yeah - I said to the cop - I have been soooo good all weekend - I hadn't gone much over 100kph for a lap around Auckland - Lake Taupo. Picture of restraint.
Just the co-pilot squeals with glee every time we hit the old ton.
I though ahh fuck it - I haven't seen another car for 10 minutes - a quick squirt won't hurt. Wasn't being stupid or wreckless IMO - just wicking up a bit.
But I copped it sweet, really. Asked if I could be let off with a caution, but she indicated the my speed prior to her getting 'a lock' really precluded that option. I could but smile and hold my hand out.
Unfortunately it's the demerits and the potential of not being able to ride that really stings.

That why I love scooters, I have never been so scared as when I hit the ton on a friends 1962 lambretta. it seemed faster than 270 something on a k6 thou.
