went out on sunday as everyone pulled out of going down to rotoura for the trail ride so got my arm twisteed and went to woodhill havnt been out there in last five years and would have to say best part was every time we went over to pay the guy was out doing his so called grooming of the tracks you ask me he need a bobcat and a roller to knock out some of the woops make the tracks a little faster any way our paths never crossed so had a free day got be happy with that think ill stick with the farm cross courty trail ride you can keep woodhill rather drive further south for my riding.

i agree, far too many woops i think. a nice mixture of flat and woops would be good.
really takes it out of ya :(

yes , its true Woodhill can be a bit woopy, the problem is that it is a sand based track, to keep the woops down, requires the use of a bulldozer, due to OSH requirments the work can't be done in the weekend(bike Versus bulldozer not good) So Greg has to pay someone to do it durning the week (bike park had its own bully) or pay a contarctor to do it..$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

But of course as a sand track this will only last a few weeks and then needs to be done again.. One benefit of the sand track is the ability to ride all year round, busiest time at woodhill was always the winter.

I have spent many hours on the bulldozer at Woodhill, and am also fully aware how frustrating a wooped track is, I am sure Greg will also be aware of this and will have some worked planned for the old park, I will call him later and find out how it is all going.

it was still a great place to learn throttle control on the new bike tho :)

I havent got my head round whoops either yet , he trick I think is in the suspension , Correct spring wieghts and stiff shim stacks ( another californian you can keep Idea)

Then as you enter you give the bars a slight tug and accelerate over the whoops quite literally skipping across the top. With soft shims and suspension the suspension will bottom and/ or pitch ypu into the hollow , so ypu slow down

They can be taken quite fast .....by everyone cept me !!!

Yep you got it !

On a side note, when we used to groom the track in the week end, I have been stopped by a couple of hard arse Moto X riders and told off:nono: for flattening the woops on the eastern block..

Can't please everyone.

Its this American thing ,,, Most trail rides /tracks in NZ you would see very little airtime . so would run Enduro soft suspension , ( soft compression stacks, large port openings ~) , but with that your front forks hit the first whoop , bottom then arent extended enough by the time the back hits, which pitches you forward, and by the second or third whoop you are following the contours at a much slower pace ....

I see in Mx 1 and 2 they put a limit on whoops , called Kiwi waves now ..or what ever country the race is in...

Anyway its 9.30 in the morning here 36 deg and the humidity is already 65 percent...... NZ is around 30 max ...
I wont be raing tll at least October .....

I think that the whoops are just bad in a few spots, but the guys do a good job of grooming. It's good to learn on too. I used to coast over the whoops, but now i wind her up and go much quicker. use the throttle and lean back. The thing is with sand, the faster you go, the easier it is. Also helps if it's wet too.
