Yeah - ride within your limits everybody. Last BIG KB ride I was on there was a crash on the Takas within 10 minutes of leaving Caltex, then at least one more because a rider was pushing their limits too far, but only realised mid corner when it was too late.

Too true mate!

I've said it before....but I love repeating myself!
If you want or need to show us all how fast you are....go racing.
On a race track where there's no traffic heading in the other direction.
Oh yeah....and an ambulance handy.

Well, its a fine day to leave for Welly way from up Dorkland - just going over my final bag and gear check and will be leaving as soon as I'm done! Looking forward to a safe and enjoyable trip and attending the KB ride tomorrow - :woohoo:

Si and I are meeting at Mobil by the traffic lights at Kapiti at 9am and will meet another rider at Pauatahanui Challange Stn around 9.30. All other Kapiti and Mana riders welcome to join us at either of these locations.

Yer mate i'll be there...

Have a safe trip there mate, and just remember, the closer you get to Welly, the windier it gets!! Look forward to meeting you tomorrow, unless you want to catch up for dinner or drinks tonight.

**UPDATE**

Weather tomorrow:
Wellington - Early Drizzle, fine breaks later. Dying Northerlies. (http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php?alias=wellington)
Masterton - Cloudy Periods, risk of afternoon shower. Light winds. (http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php?alias=masterton)

Fuel
It'd be a good idea to fill up before leaving Caltex tomorrow morning. There is fuel available in Featherston (although we're not stopping here) and in Martinborough.
A tank of gas should be more than enough to get you from Caltex, around the back of the lake and to Martinborough then filling up in Martinborough should see you right for the trip to Masterton.

Lunch
The staff at the pub are expecting us!!! When you arrive at the Pukemanu please place your order for lunch, don't wait for everyone to arrive first before ordering.
For those of you that have PMed me with your order, you'll need to order too. The PMs were so I could give the pub an indication of how many of each meals we'd need.
There is also going to be a vegetarian panini type option.

Sweeper - Novice Group
I still need a sweeper for the novice group. You don't need any special skills, you just need to be happy riding at the back of the group and be prepared to stop and lend a hand if required. Please either PM me or come and find me tomorrow morning at Caltex.

Re-grouping Points
Along the way we'll have brief stops for the groups to re-group. The following are the points that we will re-group:

Featherston, just before the turn-off for the Eastern Lake Road
On the corner of Eastern Lake Road & the East West Access RoadThese will be brief stops and and soon as your group's sweeper arrives the group will depart.

Group Riding
For many of you...this won't be your first group ride, but if it is, it's important to form a staggered riding position. ie. _--_--_--

See you all tomorrow.

Go to the exhaust guys on sat morn and get them to weld em up...

Has been looked at. It has broken up where the pipes join together into one. I could have got them to do a patch up job but not for the price I was quoted :Pokey: . They could possibly be fixed but not in the short amount of time they had and for more then what they are probably worth.

Colapop
30th September 2006, 18:39
Fark - call me a dumass!! I just (at this late stage) thought of someone who could've done it for you. Put a sleeve over the break and welded it around. He did the same thing 2 weeks ago for someone else I know... Damn I feel like an arse!

Nope - not at all. Rode my regular route to work every day this week. Got soaked on the way home Weds night. Ridden in rain heaps of times, but...

It's water AND a route I've only ever ridden once that I'm wary of. Don't want to over-estimate myself and go for a joyride down the side of the hill (barrier, what barrier? Oh.....)

I've taken my name off the list as I might not make it if the weather's not too flash. First time over the takas last week and really not too confident going over in the wet (especially if there's been a diesel spill, as per another KB thread). I might still make it, but thought it best to take my name off so nobody was waiting for me to turn up!

If I don't make it, have a great ride everyone :)

I did manage to get some hazy shady fuzzy cell phone pics - so here's them... The other better ones are to follow...

1. Rimutex chatting
2. More pre-ride chatting
3. Featherston left turn
4. Chow at the Pukemanu pub.
5. Oh my mrs Kendawg! Will it fit?
6. A square full o' bikes....

Really enjoyable ride - I even led a group (or pod) at one stage. If the sign points left and says "Martinborough" then it would be an idea to go the other way (to Lake Ferry) wouldn't it??? Not me but if you look closely at the photo's you'll see a certain hungry young lady that eventually caught up....

A huge thankyou to all the people who helped organise this. I had such an awesome day, discovering new roads is always fun. Thanks to the people who stopped at the intersections and showed us which way to go.

I feel my riding has improved so much recently, still got a huge grin on my face from finding the limits of my rear tyre on the Rimutaka's. 430 K's today for me, all the way from Palmy.

Had to laugh at the cows trying to race us :p out the back of lake waiarapa. I took a few photos which I will post up soon. Didn't really whip the camera out too much kind of forgot about it with all that adrenaline pumping through my veins.

So yeah once again thanks so much for organising everything people, you know who you are. Lets do it again next weekend  .

Believe it or not, it actually dried out once we left Martinborough, a steady pace up to Gladstone, slightly slower over the ever-so-slippery Water Tower Road then nice & quick 'round the back past the Lime-works into Masterton. The trusty Highway Patrol were on the hill to wave a freindly hello to us all on the way up the Taka's, wasn't that thoughtful of 'em!!

A great days riding & an excellent way to celebrate the beginning of Daylight Savings. Might see you guys on Wednesdays from now on too!

Well done folks - an enjoyable day out. The food came out better as well considering the numbers! Big ups to the pub I reckon (well mine was OK)!! Bigger ups to the horganizer...

The trumpy and I enjoyed tootling along behind the GN's and assorted 250's, people getting started - well done you lot, all rode safely and I was well impressed and pleased to meet you all. A new record set, - you all made it!

Had a bit of fun on the way home and the solo trip going back was a teensy bit faster. Luckily I came across a super slow bus going up, passed him and voila! NO TRAFFIC... Yippee! Loverly old fashioned Triumph swoopy lines have left the pegs looking secondhand already (oops). No real rain to speak of on the way home and it made for very pleasant riding.

Excellent ride thats Sshot. The welly weather faithful were rewarded with a dry road out the back of Masters. Small incident on the hill on the way back and the rozzas were good blokes checking to see we were ok.

Yep cheers Sling!
Those rozzas were good blokes. The one in the passenger seat had stopped some of the guys at the back of the intermediate group earlier in the day for a very minor indiscrestion and no tickets were issued. Wished us all well and have a nice day. Bloody good of him really.

Really good ride out the back after lunch. Nice Pic's from all for you lot.

Man, and I ever so happy I managed to make it back down to Wellywood for the KB ride! (had image of Wacky Races in my mind!) Was absolutely great riding down on the little ol'Hornet .. texting Zapf along the way! Did some different routes down to Welly that I normally wouldn't do in my cage - the magic of two wheels! :woohoo:

Real pleasure to meet the other Hornet riders for a little "swarm" get together, also great putting some faces to nicks and names. Yes, Colapop was...a revelation, I was glad I didn't pull all my gadgets and doohickeys out onto the table too (though Zapf had a slight fascination for little blinking LED lights on my glove!)

Was funny watching Zapf doing his impression of "Titanic" by standing on his pegs and being "king of the world!". Even funnier when his mate looked across and did it too (who was Kate and who was Leonardo got me shaking my head and dry-retching into my helmet...)

The ride was absolutely awesome, lovely twisties, sweeping bends, uphills and cows running alongside trying to kick up their revs... :chase: , doing the 'takas was magic! And the collection of bikes fair took my breath away - better than going to dealers and looking! Righto, enough gabbing - need to head out to the bike and head out to the 'Hutt and renew old sights and sounds from my childhood

Thanks Welly KBers, always doing Wellington absolutely, postively proud! (heh - I'm an old Wellingtonian exiled in Dorkland!)

Other events of the day were a less than impressive passing manouver on the Taks that made me pull over at the top of the hill to reasses my life.

Meeting up with an old school mate I had not seen in years!

And being the first of four bikes that the "thin blue line" pulled over ignoring the railway stop sign, dude let as all off! :spanking: Lucky. I hope I don't get into any trouble for dredging up this old gem, but with the talk of this ride from a reminder from Slingshot, it made me think (yeah yeah, can you smell the smoke etc) (and this was a more appropriate place to think about it than in flyin's memorial ride thread),
anyway.... I was thinking, what do people think about spicing the ride up a bit this year and splitting everyone into groups of mixed abilities and do a scavenger hunt type of thing (not a race, and I know there is a name for it, but buggered if I know what it is) where the groups have to get a photo of team members with a statue, a fish, a cheese grater etc, and then once you have all your photos or items we all meet up somewhere for lunch (or maybe this could be done after lunch, so if people get lost, they don't miss lunch).
Would just make it a bit more fun and have like a purpose (aside from just talking crap in person with the same people we normally talk on-line with). So what do you guys reckon?

Good thinking Trudie. Is this the day of Daylight Saving returning and a celebration of the coming summer? If so, it's perfect as that could mark the last TCSMR (regular time, Sundays 10am Rimutex) and the return of TCWNR (regular time, Wednesdays 6.30pm Duck Pond)!

This could then become the annual event that heralds the change over ... and what better way to do it than as a ride to the 'rapa and a poker run?
