I've had it with patience!! I want to ride. Some of you are aware that I've been patient for sometime and trying to make other things happen in my life the universe and everything.

I've had enough of all that - Gimme some wheels goddamit!! Now, as much as I want "A bike" I don't want any bike, I've done my homework and I know what I like & don't and what I can afford - up to $5k. No more than that.

I'm looking for a;

RF900, a good solid bike that'll get me from here to there. A bit of commuting, a bit of touring and it's got enough to haul my fat ass around the place.

Possibly;

GSXR1100 or GSXR1000 depending on year, once again (esp. the 1100's) a good solid bike *as above*
or;
ZZR1100 *as above*

The [within reason] wish list bike;

TL1000 - OK highly unlikely for this price range but if you don't ask then no-one will offer. But Oh the joy that would bring if it happened!!

This is a real request, not a dream. We are looking at reality now. As much as you all like/love/rate/enjoy your bikes I'm not asking so I can get your opinions on what I should get - the list is as above. PM if you have anything...

(yes I've kept an eye on Tardeme - almost got ripped too!!)

::edit - my bad - I meant ZZR1100!::

RF - great bike... I have one, I'm glad and I'd do it again tomorrow.

Cheap as chips, reliable , quick enough... and comfortable. Tyres last quite nicely to. I commute on it mostly, and get 10,000kms to a rear and 15,000 to a front (I run usually BT020's)

Downsides to be aware of
1) Bits are starting to get harder to find. Generic bits no worries, specialist bits (fairing etc).... starting to get tough
2) They don't like sitting in the rain. They start with a miss, a plug fouls and they're like that for 50kms... a real bastard
3) Heavy - not that you notice it till you buy fuel. I'm averaging 6.4 litres/100km (44.45 mpg in old speak). Not startling, but not bad.

If/when you're up this way you're welcome to take mine for a blat. I'll load it up so you can feel (or not feel) the difference.

so you are as stupid as you look!!

No doubt about that.

Just saying that to move onto one of those as a first bike might not be such a flash idea.

Each to their own.

Yeah been round the block a couple of times. But in saying that I do need to learn a few things. Not getting a smaller bike for the reasons outlined above.

You don't need a smaller bike if you have a reasonably mature mind. But, before you go out riding, for the first few weeks at least, have a mastie before hand, just incase.

Nice selection of bikes, definitely add a ZZR 1100 to your list as Poo's suggested, they are beautiful pieces of machiney and anything 1993 onwards has stunning reviews.

There's an FJ1100 in Sawyers. Well under your budget.

Depending on how the boys go it could be the last game of rugby so my weekends will be free to bike hunt. I might be able to sneak in on the way from here to there....

Can't reiterate how good the TRX's are and I can also help with manuals and tips and tricks.

there have been a few for sale in wellington in the past few months, no one wants them! i dont know why. is it cos they look a we bit dated in the looks department?
i saw a yellow one for sale last year, had a aprilia rs250 front fairing and a r1 rear end i think, looked very cool!

Mate, we've got about 4 weeks of rugby left so Saturday afternoons are already taken care of. No hurry until Daylight savings mate.

I reckon the TRX's look cool. A bit long-in-the-tooth looking compared to other bikes, but very cool.

It certainly is but they'd have to drop to $5k. The purse strings have been released to $5k on the strict provision that I don't go over that.

Jimmie -are you sure you want a fat, unfit, balding, old man on your team? :wait:

That Suzuki in Poos post is way cool....love those older bangers....and the style/look of the late 80's early 90's spooky's are sexy, in a manly kinda way..:blip:

'sme, innit, unless posts made while riding don't count.

[Insert obligatory wistful remark about how I'm really, really going to get a bike next year.]

Come to think o'it, though, you gotta crash and swap bikes again, dude. You're not getting any younger, and I don't really fancy an FJR.

I thought this arrangement was contingent on my death. And now you're getting fussy? Trust me, you would greatly prefer an FJR to an ST1300. Have a look at the photo in my profile and get your voodoo doll out. And, fuck it, you're not getting any younger either. Sheesh!
