Here's one for muscle bike lovers...

Suzuki Offers GSX1400 Wes Cooley Replica Motorcycle for Japan

American Suzuki superbike rider Wes Cooley's accomplishments of a quarter-century ago are commemorated with replica street motorcycle.

Although he was best known in America as a winning Superbike roadracer (capturing seven Superbike races) and twice Superbike champion (1979 and 1980), in Japan, Wes Cooley Jr. is apparently remembered as the two-time winner of the Suzuka Eight Hour race aboard Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000s. In 1978 he teamed with Mike Baldwin to win the inagural event, and two years later, riding with Graeme Crosby, Cooley rode the Suzuki to victory for the 1980 crown, vanquishing entries from the other Japanese manufacturers.

Suzuki is now commemorating those victories with a Wes Cooley Replica version of the GSX1400. The 1400 is sold in European and other markets, but the limited-production WCR will only be sold in Japan.

Have you only just discovered this, Mr H? This is old news. Where have you been? Have you spent all your time on KB instead of browsing the interweb? :msn-wink:

Apparently so... I was impressed that Mr Suzuki had succeeded in making a pig-ugly bike look moderately attractive!

Yeah, not a bad looking bike at all. Very 80's.
Perhaps I could send my FahrtSturm to Mr Suzuki then.
What's his address?

I didn't think that a Firestorm fell into the "pig ugly" category... Unlike the TL1000 (Oops, is that another Suzuki, perchance?)

A matter of opinion, I guess.
No, I spoze it's not that bad, and some parts (taken on their own at least) look OK, but given that Honda America prolly intended to emulate Ducati with the FahrtSturm, they've missed the mark. At least it's better looking than the prototype they cobbled together, even if it's not as funky as the NAS ("New American Sport") they came up with a couple of years back.

Sorry - what was this forum thread about again?
Ah yes - Wes Cooley. Sounds like a "good ole boy" moonshiner. :Punk:

i wouldnt mind a normal gsx1400 with ohlins goodis and all the rest of it, fuckong beasty bikes them, have a mate who owend one before he got his aprillia rsv100 and he says it was supriseingly good in the corners and could go faster than you can hold on [well you know the idea] down the straights. they look good too, but some twin head lights would sharpen one up. oops im babling:Oops: .... they have the most amazing torque curve!

If anyone reckons these are heavy slow things... go for a ride with "Beyond" you will definitely change your mind... if you can keep up.

Well, isn't that interesting. I hardly see anything about GSX1400's on the forums and then decide to post a review on this great bike under the review section and the very next day an article appears on this very bike under General Bike Stuff.

I am passionate about this machine. It's a hell of a lot of bike for the money
and very underated. Most the reviews are done by journo's who think you have to redline a bike to get the best run figures. Do that on this machine and you are going to be disappointed. The torque bands best hit is 4500-7000rpm and after that, change up to do it again. It will pull stumps at 2500rpm. Handling? No issue at all.

Oh, here I go again. Sorry :)

:)

Good to see some support for this loveerrly bike.

Yeah Josh, I'm not a trumpet blower and it's hard not to come acrosss on the forums as an ego myster. I'm not into egos or any of that crap but yeah, it goes real bloody well for it's size.

As Rayza said last Saturday when he see's it cornering, "it looks unnatural to see that huge thing just drop right into corners." Another fellow rider last Saturday said "it defies the law of physics"

It still blow me away that something weighing quarter of a tonne wet, can handle the way it does, totally stock too.

It's a lot more satisfying to go quickly on an unlikely bike, isn't it?

You are spot on there Lou. Very satisfying indeed and the added bonus is, you don't need to go to the gym for a work out. Exercise actually becomes real good fun. :)

i had a look at an ohlins equiped gsx1400 today [im not sure if thats normal or not] and they look really good! but i cracked a fat over the new zx10 and k5 thou.

whats the difference between the gsx1200 and a bandit? other than style all i know is the gsx 1200 has twin rear shocks like the 1400.

beyond

I do know the Bandit has a monoshock.

Lou Girardin has one and may come along to tell you the total difference.

They say a Gsx 1400 is one of the quickest around up to 100kms as it is. the Wes Cooley version would be slower as Jap market models are normally detuned
to comply with their laws. Another thing if Suzuki want to bugger the market with cheap bikes good on them .More bums on seats the better. But maybe Im biased:apumpin:
