Up the Takas for a coffee and hot chocolates, down to Featherston and then back up and over and home via the Haywards. Good ride, but got a bit cold and windy on the homeward stretch.

Round the inlet and into the city. Round the bays and home to the valley. Nice to be riding in fine weather, if a little gusty. Weathers supposed to turn to the south tonight and get wet, so another great week of commuting!

Pretty much ditto. (very cold and windy on the way back).

I had business in Featherston. So rode right over. The guy I was visiting was on his way later to visit his Daughter in Tawa; so maybe I could have just stayed home...

Is it proper to do the biker wave at the gaggle at the tearooms when just riding past? I didn't, they (you) all looked a bit more "experienced" than me.

At Pauatuhuni (across from that Million dollar house for sale) there were about three cop cars stopping East-bound vehicles (including at least one yellow bike I saw).

What's the signal to oncomming riders to say "there's a cop down the road." ?

Apologies to the rider I passed on the way up. I always get that first corner past that first passing lane wrong. Hope you didn't think I was going to bin it.

A hardy group of two-fiddys (and one 150 2-smoker) had a great trip out East Auckland way and didn't even get rained on:doobey:

Cheers to the pub who fired up the chip fryer early - don't think they were expecting a group of bikers to turn up on a day like this!

Nowhere today:weep: Weather was perfect too..... Hubby was off to Aussie for the week so we turned up at the airport several hours early just in case the sh!t had hit the fan with the overseas thing. And whaddya know....it was probably quieter than normal! No queues, no chaos, no plastic bag hand luggage. So annoying! (I guess it's a good thing too, just me being selfish with my good weather Sunday!) Ah well, came home and got the bike washed and polished so it can get rained on during the week!

You must annoy them maybe??

well for me my riding consisted in wheel and stoppie practise on the push bike as the 150 is ready for racing next sat.

But then after getting all into it from the push biking i just had to do some on the 150...

Out i comes race numbers and all. My street has a really good surface for stoppies :blip:

$20 of petrol later.. :innocent:

I had a good weekend riding. After a crap weather forecast for the whole weekend, the day dawned fine and sunny yesterday, so shot out for a quick blat round the Port Hills – Out to Sumner, up Evans Pass, along the Summit Rd, latched onto a couple of old Triumphs just before the Sign of the Kiwi, tore along with them along the rest of the Summit Rd until the one in front of me took a tumble :shit: He lost control on a cattle stop and went into the shingle on the side of the road, then into the ditch at around 70-80kph – not nice to see this happening in front of me. I stopped and ran back to the guy wondering what I going to have to deal with here, but all was well – relatively speaking. The guy got up OK and was just winded, the bike was OK – just minor damage, a few bent bits here and there that can be easily fixed, tank was fine. He was very lucky I think. Turned out he was part of a VMCC ride, and their sweep vehicle with trailer turned up 5 minutes later, so I left them to it. Carried on along the Summit Rd, Left onto Gebbies Pass, Left at the Wheatsheaf pub, back through Governors Bay, Cass Bay, etc to Lyttelton, through the tunnel and home. A quick 86km ride.

Today dawned fine and blue again … bloody hopeless weather forecasters :nono: Lemans rang up to go for a ride, so it was – Oh, OK then if I must :blip:

So, Lemans and SDU, and I went to Lyttleton via the tunnel, round the bays again in the opposite direction this time, right at the Wheatsheaf pub, over Gebbies Pass and on to Little River where we stopped for a coffee and a bite to eat, then it was over the shingle Port Levy Rd (complete with snow and ice over the top) to Port Levy, on to Diamond Harbour for another drink stop, then back round Governors Bay to Lyttelton, through the tunnel and home. 140km today, with mates and no incidents

What great weather we’ve had this weekend :sunny: :first:

Had a late start, went over the Haywards met up with some others,
Up the Takas, stopped and talked some shit.
Down the other side (sorry to the guy on the red Hyosung for nearly clipping you but it wouldnt have been as close if you held the same line through the whole corner) out through Featherston,Martinborough,Gladstone Pub for lunch.
Carried on out over the Gladstone hill climb through the back roads to Masterton, back along Gladstone through to Matinborough for coffee.
Back over Rimatakas and home.
Good ride but COLD!

Round Pauatahanui Inlet, over Haywards to Caltex. Missed mates by 5 mins but thought, what the hell, went over Taka's to Carterton anyway. Caught up with the mates for coffee in Carterton. Same route back but that head wind certainly slowed the return journey down a bit.

Me and my brother hopped on our GN's and rode up to the Brooklyn windmill, to look over our new city. Ben (my bro) commented "oh, I haven't really gone around corners before much", as he is a learner like me, only a few hundred k's under our tyres.

Then back down the hill to Mitre 10, to get paint to paint the bike Drab Olive Green (a million GN250's in NZ, and only mine is a military GN) :ar15: and I also attached an offroad tyre to the front mudguard to make it look tougher.
I'll post pictures of it eventually, once it's all ratted up army styles.
I'm painting the engine black tomorrow, if the weather holds off.

If you are going to pass a slower bike (or car) it is your responsibility to make it a safe pass.
The guy/girl you are passing probably has no idea you are going around them.

True, but sometimes folk change lines abrubtly when you're abeam them and there's not alot you can do.

I'm relatively new, and I find that by using 6 or 7 different lines through the same corner I can maximise the experience I get.

I agree as to my responsibility when passing, but I waited behind for a while,he knew I was there, he was a mobile chicane.
I dont carve people up I normally give plenty of room.
And no that wasnt me in the photo, that was the other 999 out there today.
Very common bikes .

Ha ha ha - you would be one of the LAST riders I know that would carve other riders up..... in fact there are more than one or two occasions where i have been grateful for the respect (and space!!!) that you give other riders ... :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Good pics as always Merv. Thanks for coming over and saying hello. Although I think your camera adds a few pounds - I'm much slimmer in the flesh you know. Maybe it's the fit of those new leathers?
So many bikes out at every stop today it was hard to remember who was who.
I tried to cover most corners of why-wrap-ha today out riding. I can confirm that the wind farm road is cleaned up after the slips. The water tower still has some dust to clear on a few corners.
Yes the sound of the MV at full song as it blows pass stirred the soul. We did some time and motion economy fuel saver trials, 0 to 100kph runs... Say no more.
Fancy two red 999s in the same place at the same time. The one in Merv's photo was taken as we headed off back to Martinborough, where we parked up next Masterchop's 999. Call that common. Well then I was riding with another 06 black 636 two hours earlier - now what are the chances of that happening! All such rare and flash machines.
Great day for a ride.

From The Hutt, over the Haywards, over Paekak Hill, to Te Horo to see a couple of old mates. Carried on a bit, leaning left the whole way, to Himatangi and stopped at Sparkies Bar for a beer. Met some good people there. Then back the way I came, leaning to the right the whole way, a quick pit stop in Waikanae to see another mate, then attempted to deafen the Sunday night traffic snake all the way back home.
They couldn't make those double yellow lines any rougher to ride on with their rumble strip bullshit could they?
What little warmth there was in the air disappeared immediately after the sun went down.

Good weekend for sure, In amongst packing up for the house sale, I managed to sneak out onto my bike for 20 minutes. Rode from Naenae down to Petone and back. What a blast!
I was testing out the new velocity stacks I'd fitted the night before.
I used to be able to hold the font end down just...... Now, I can't, the extra HP has the edge on me - Time for a few more Makatu pies.
Otherwise I'll just go over to Fatjims for a feed, then I'll be sweet!

Saturday went out with my bro for a cruise around the Horowhenua and Sunday took wifey to Palmerston North for lunch and a look around ANZA motocycles. Took the Triumph scrambler for a test ride - what a hoot.
Good to see a bike shop open on a Sunday.
